As many of you know, there are efforts afoot to acquire the .BAR files needed to load native apps after the Blackberry World shutdown on 12/31/2019. Some developers have already voluntarily released their apps (e.g. bPod Podcast Manager). Some are amenable to doing so and are working out details. Some have provided them upon request, with full permission to redistribute. This thread (which will hopefully be a sticky if our beloved Crackberry moderators approve) will provide links to these .BARs for all to download so everyone can keep using these fine apps after the shutdown.

    App: File System
    Developer: CellNinja
    Description:

*** PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY ***
This app asks for a few permissions, but none are needed for the app to work. You don't need to accept those permissions, except that you won't be able to access some folders in the file system if you don't grant proper permission.

For example, 'Email and PIM' permission allows you to access
    /accounts/1000/pimdata/messages/
folder, otherwise this folder will not be readable.

Most folders will be readable even if you don't grant any permissions.
*** PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY ***

This app allows you to browse the file system to see all the hidden files not accessible from File Manager. You can open any readable file and even copy it to your Documents folder for easy access.

Why do I need this app?
If you ask yourself this question, you probably don't need this app. If you're curious and want to see what's hidden to everyone, then this app is for you.

Here are some use case :
    * Want to know if your device is a refurb unit?
    Navigate to /pps/services/recondition_info

    * Your POWER button isn't responding and want to know if it's an hardware or software issue?
    Navigate to /pps/system/buttons/status

    * Want to save a contact's BBM avatar?
    Navigate to /accounts/1000/pimdata/contacts/13/

    * You're a developer and want to get some nice native icons that aren't available in the official icon pack?
    Navigate to /usr/share/icons/

    App: PocketSafe
    Developer: CellNinja
    Description:

PocketSafe is an headless app that will prevent your phone from pocket typing.

    What's pocket typing?
That's when your phone sends a message or dials a phone number by itself while the phone is in your pocket. This is due to touchscreen receiving false touch events. Never get embarassed anymore with PocketSafe.

PocketSafe will also prevent false touch events when you're on the phone. Did your cheek ever pressed an on-screen button while talking on the phone? This will never happen again.

    How does it works?
Super easy : Proximity Sensor. All BlackBerry 10 phones have one, it's usually on top part of the front face. When the screen is turned ON, PocketSafe starts the sensor and begin receiving what we call 'close events'. A close event is when the sensor detects that an object is close to the sensor (a few centimeter, not even an inch). Of course, I can't differentiate what kind of object this is, but it's usually not a good sign if the object stays close for more than a second. That means there's a good chance that your phone is against your face or inside your pocket, and accidental typing can occur as the screen is still ON.*

In those occasions, PocketSafe shows a popup on screen to 'consume' false touch events, if ever they occur. As soon as your phone will get out of the close environment, the popup will disappear by itself, letting you use the device.

Is this app going to drain my battery?
In my own testing, PocketSafe has little impact on the battery life, and Device Monitor also reports almost no battery and CPU usage. But, if you're still concerned, I've added an option called 'Battery Saving Mode' that you can enable in the app.

    What's 'Battery Saving Mode'?
This mode will start the Proximity Sensor when the screen gets turned ON, but if no close objects has been detected in the first 10 seconds, it will stop the Proximity Sensor and wait for the next time the screen is turned ON. If a close object is found in the first 10 seconds, the app will keep protecting your phone from pocket typing as long as a close object can't be detected for 10 second straight.

As pocket typing usually happens in your pocket after an accidental unlock, Battery Saving Mode should be able to prevent pocket typing in most cases. The only case where this mode will fail to prevent pocket typing is if you forget to turn OFF your screen before putting your phone in your pocket.

    App: ProtectMe
    Developer: CellNinja
    Description:

ProtectMe offers the fastest way to password protect your phone in case it is lost or stolen, no need to wait until you get home to login on some website to protect your device. Borrow anyone's phone and send a predefined message (Keyword) to your phone to automatically lock the device. This works with Email, SMS and PIN message, so you'll be able to lock the device right away even if the borrowed phone doesn't have access to internet.

Once locked, your phone will start to reply automatically with its GPS coordinates and will update every few minutes.

If you own a wearable bluetooth device, ProtectMe will also automatically lock the device when your phone loose connection to your wearable, which probably means you forgot your phone unattended somewhere.

ProtectMe offers many other ways to password protect your device in the eventuality your phone is used by a stranger, those are called 'Triggers'. Triggers are suspicious events that occurs on your phone, that you are unlikely to do yourself but could be performed by a thief. You can select which Triggers you want to activate, only select the ones that you don't use yourself. Those Triggers are :
    - Turning ON Airplane Mode
    - Turning OFF Cellular Service (phone, SMS, data)
    - Turning OFF Data Service (Edge, 3G, 4G)
    - Turning OFF Wifi
    - Turning OFF GPS
    - Trying to shutdown the device
    - Trying to do a soft reset of the device

ProtectMe is headless and doesn't need to stay open as an active frame in order to protect your device. App: Hub2Watch
    Developer: CellNinja
    Description:

    You own a Pebble SmartWatch?

This app is what you've been waiting for!

Get all your hub accounts right on your wrist, in a discrete manner. This app includes 3 connected watchfaces to install on your Pebble, which will allow you to get any new hub account unread count on your Pebble. You can even add weather if you're into this kind of info.

Wait, what's a 'hub account unread count'?
That's the icons you see when you swipe up from the bottom bezel from anywhere on your phone, it keeps count of your unread messages for all your hub accounts. This Pebble watchface will mirror this information, so you'll stay up-to-date on what's happening on your phone without having to look at your phone.

    That's not all!

You want to know your phone battery level AND your Pebble battery level?
Shake your wrist, it's right there!

You want to be notified on bluetooth connection change?
On disconnect, the watch will vibrate and the colors will be inverted. Never leave your phone away anymore.

Q: Are all hub accounts supported?
    A: Yes.

Q: I see a notification icon instead of <name of an hub account> icon, how come?
A: My app can't download the icon, so it tries to find the best match through my internal list of icons, but if there's no match, it uses the standard notification icon. If you use another language than English, you might see this behavior for standard hub accounts like Email and Text Messages, please reach to me at [email protected] so I can update the app to support your language.

Q: This app is awesome, can I give you more money?
A: Sure, but you don't have to! (just kidding)

Q: Will this app work on all Pebble, including Pebble Time and Pebble Round?
    A: Yes!

This app is headless, you don't need to run it as an active frame for the app to work properly. Set it, close it and forget about it!

    WARNING :
This app is useless if you don't own a Pebble SmartWatch AND Bridge app (can also work with Talk2Watch Pro app)
    Minimum OS : 10.3.0

    Permissions Asked :
Calendar --- Needed for calendar service, you can disable it if you don't need calendar events
Location --- Needed for weather service, you can disable it if you don't need weather

    Good news! Very helpful.

Might be easier to link to a constantly updated Google Sheet instead of having to sift through a monster 1st post.

    Edit: Something like this:

Or people could, you know, see what's available here and see whether they want anything rather than use a Google Sheet....which also requires the use of Google Docs, so.....

You only need a browser - any browser.

You could keep the link at the top of the post.

That assumes you want to use the Google Docs platform in the first place. Many of us aren't fans...particularly if we're still wanting native .BAR files at this point in the game.

However, if active BB10 users would prefer a link to some form of cloud spreadsheet, I am willing to provide one should they ask.

The first post is getting rather long.

Would it be possible condense into a list that includes only app title, brief description, and download link at the very top, with the full descriptions and features of each app below that list?

Instructions on how to side-load these apps without BlackBerry World would also be helpful.

Sure thing Dallin. I will update the original post to summarize.

I should clarify here that I can only guarantee that the original post will be updated, as I cannot control conite's Google Docs-based spreadsheet. But there are a number of efforts in the works to provide a central repository for how-tos, apps, and general helpful BB10 information.
