How does one delete and close your Whatsapp account? It's not listing delete account in the settings anymore. I trying to close it for good ... and I can't do it!!!

You can't. Once they have your number you are in their system for ever. Only way to "delete " account is to get new mobile number.
If you just don't want to be reached via WhatsApp, then uninstalling the app should be enough. Don't know if you can deactivate the whole account, but try their website, if there is the option, it should be there.

I've just deleted WhatsApp in my Z10 but didn't realise that they still keep my account. So perhaps I'll have to reinstall it and deactivate the account before deleting the software again.

Yep, looks like someone from WhatsApp read your thread, because they recently added this feature in an update :)
