    Hi CB Nation!

I'm pleased to announce that my latest app BRON was approved and is now available in BlackBerry World!

    BRON - BlackBerry World

BRON is a cron-like scheduler for BlackBerry 10. It allows you to execute shell scripts at a specified time on your device.

This is multitasking at its finest. Each task is scheduled in its own thread, so tasks can run in parallel.

What can a shell script do?

-copy data from flash to sd card or to Box, Dropbox and Link connected computers
-copy data from Box, Dropbox and connected computers to your flash or SD card.
-check how much free space remains available on your device and alert you if it's filling up

BRON has a number of other features, for example it can:

-play a sound at the specified time
-display script logs (if your scripts create one)
-edit scripts right within the app
-edit the brontab configuration file within the app

BRON can even create Notifications in your Hub if your script produces a special output file.

There is also an Active Frame that shows the next 3 upcoming tasks.

There are lots of features planned for up coming versions.

    ....and it's FREE.

Download the app from BlackBerry World and check out the HowTo pages at the BRON Home Page

Is there a guide to what I can do with the shell on my z10?

Can I access peripherals like camera or microphone?

    Can I read emails/calendars?

Can I read html content from url http requests?

Any plans to make BRON headless?

YES! In fact, I'm just waiting for approval for version 2.0 which is headless.

I hope it's released any day now.

Can we send files to email addresses at scheduled times? For example, send a picture every hour to a certain email address?

Not currently as bron sort of works "outside" the cascades UI, and more under the covers at the OS level and there are no tools at the OS level for sending email.

I am exploring methods of doing this though. Stay tuned!

    Bron 2.0 is out!

    Biggest new feature, headless!

Also allows you to turn wifi on (turning off is not supported by the api) from a script at a specified time.

    Check it out!

    BRON - BlackBerry World

Let me know what other features you'd like to see.

Don't know if this is possible, but it would be great if I could schedule all my local Remember notes to be moved from local storage to evernote or exchange storage every night.

Since there is no way to change the default place notes go I often have stuff only on the phone by accident.

Anyone have cool scripts to share? Admittedly, I'm not versed with how to make my own, so I'm interested to see what more able minded users have come up with...

I'll get some of mine up after work today.

Quick Feature Thought: I currently use the Android App (via SNAP) "SSH Commander" to be able to basically "press a button" to get a ssh command to be run; I for example have one to open a cash drawer used as a communal safe, and one to trigger a large transducer to make the inception sound. So it would be sweet if in addition to running scripts on a schedule BRON could also run them on command. IMHO the best way to do this would be to allow the creation of new home screen icons for each command, if the user requests that; that would also cause no need for a major UI change.

    hey gang,

a user reported a problem whereby the 'set-profile' directive would not switch profiles to Vibrate. Instead, it would just do nothing.

thanks to the report, i found the bug and fixed it. The new version should be available in a day or two in Blackberry World.

(this is a bug fix release only)

Hey oddboy, good job this stuff,

Are the names of directives (commands) given by BRON, or are they a some part of BB10 API? Could we call a any API function from command line? Something like thru the rundll32.exe in windoze?

The directives are made up by me and built into bron. Essentially, they expose parts of the BlackBerry API, but only for the ones I've built in - which are kind of the key features I thought would be useful.

Open to ideas of there's something you'd like to see..

Can you start an app from a script? I use the Bria VoIP app but it isn't currently headless, so I have to keep making sure it's still running. I'd like to have a script start Bria if it's no longer running.

Ideally apps would start as tiles, not pop up in my face while I'm doing something else.
