We have developed an app which does what a BB Protect used to do till OS7(except for tracking) i.e. backup and restore. It can Backup your Contacts, Calender, BB express, Pics, Videos, Music, Remember, Books, Documents, Downloads etc to your Dropbox or MicroSD card or Internal memory,(Box coming soon). You can encrypt your backup for added protection! So you dont have to worry about your Valuable data anymore, Backup Pro is there for you!
You might think this app is expensive when compared to others, but others only offer one feature per app, i.e. Contact backup etc. So in that way this worth it and this is all you will need for your Backup and Restore needs.
A new feature is being worked on, that is to delete duplicate contacts when restoring from a backup.
If you have any feature request or any problems with our apps, Please feel free to write to us at [email protected]
We are there 24/7 to help you out.
We need your support since we have spent a lot of Money, Time and Resources for making these apps and for making it one of the best available apps for BB10!

Check out Backup Pro in BlackBerry World! You can find it at Backup Pro - BlackBerry World

We know and we are extremely sorry about it, but for us to keep developing for BlackBerry 10, we need from support from you guys. Since I've mentioned in my post, we have spent a lot of money for developing these apps, so we need to at least get that back and some more, this will even help us to motivate to make more apps for BlackBerry 10.

Any plans to make this app headless with scheduled backups? Also what about SMS/BBM/Whatsapp backup? Also why not use BB10's native services for Dropbox, Box or OneDrive? This way you wouldn't have to code support for each one.

Yes, it's going to be headless, and will have scheduled backups. SMS backup feature is coming after Box support, and box is all done. and i dont think there's a way to save directly to Box or Dropbox via the respective apps. The only way to save directly to Box is to use it's API, which requires the user to authenticate. The app doesn't see the login details at all. Same for Dropbox also.
Cannot backup BBM, but it has an option to save chats, same for whatsapp too.
And the update will arrive in about 10 days.

It was a full featured NATIVE music player with GRAPHIC EQUALISER. We were porting an API for the graphic equaliser ourselves but it's a huge task and the market did not look promising with the sales of our other apps. Take Backup Pro for example, it's function is fundamental to the OS - it's like a missing piece of the OS. Who wouldn't want it the moment they saw it? We even ramped up the features in Backup Pro and gave everyone what they wanted but the sales remained dismal (400 purchases). Not enough to sustain one full time programmer and 2 casual programmers. (Back to 3 casual programmers.)

When thinking of app sales, the general public probably tends to think of 30,000 to 100,000 purchases. Not in our experience. Even with a price of 99 cents Fire Chest Backup was only doing 5 purchases a day; when it was free it did 100-200 downloads per day! So reducing the price of Backup Pro from $4.99 to 99 cents would not have made a difference.

The reality is that the only way BlackBerry World can attract professional developers from other ecosystems to join in native app development, is if it's financially rewarding. With a smaller user base and a smaller volume of sales this means professional apps will cost more.

And for less than the price of a burger ($4.99) you can actually have a professional app, not some poorly designed app. Professional graphic design. Professional workflow. Professional copy writing. Professional support. The right balance between simplicity and complexity. An app that knows it belongs on a phone and is designed right. Sure there will be people that ask for this feature and that feature, but talk is easy, and actually implementing many features in a structured and intuitive way takes a lot of thought and should occur in an organic manner (if organic is the word) over time.

There are always those developers that try and take shortcuts and exploit the market with a quick and dirty app and they may do well. But we actually care about making a difference to the ecosystem as well.

We are trying to get a professional app development company off the ground, one that specialises in BlackBerry 10 apps only. There is so much to be done. There is so much potential. We think we have the right people and the right MIX of skills to do some amazing things.

    Bottom line: BUY OUR APPS!!!!

PS: Usage Pro and Fire Chest Usage are coming back online in a few days. Major bug fixing done. Just testing.

I will admit that the price for the Professional version did put me off for a while. What can I say, I don't do hamburgers that often!

I also had the original free version and generally only had to BACKUP. I never had to do a restore, fully testing the app or my needs. That changed last week when I lost my contacts using a Verzon sync program. Before using that verizon app though I had used Firechest to backup. Glad I did. I was able to restore my lost 190 contacts in about 5 minutes. GREAT. So, then I sprung for the Pro version. It was one of those decisions. Support this developer, reward them for restoring my data and I had been thinking about the pro version for weeks. But I guess there are price "walls" that folks do have to think about before jumping.

Good luck with the app, with sales and I hope that you can find it possible to develop other apps.

I bought both of your applications, Backup Pro and Usage Pro and are great. I also think that at least Backup Pro is a must.
Not sure why people don't want to invest in such an important and professionally made native applications. I see a lot of complaints at the forums about recovering lost contacts for example. Most of the people just don't think ahead probably.
I am very sorry to hear about the bad selling and hopefully more people will find out about your application and the importance to use them.
Thank you very much for making the apps and keep up the good work.

Someone asked a question about the Non-pro version and calendar backup/restore. So I went looking at the zip file. I get an error pop-up from winzip (older version of winzip, admittedly). Same with a contact or two.

    Something about invalid filename:

    Backup Pro by FireChest-firechest.jpg

    Backup Pro by FireChest-firechest1.jpg

Oh, I don't know if anything that I "smudged" would be meaningful but I cut those pieces out!

What causes this? An appt with too much info stuffed into the filename? Or just a winzip quirk? Will it restore correctly if restoration became necessary?

More curiosity than anything. As I wrote elsewhere, the restoration of Contacts saved with Pro saved my bacon!

    Seems unusual.

When you unZip the file on the Desktop, does the problem persist, or is it just a display quirk in WinZip?

What happens when you open using Windows' native Zip decompression? What about on a Mac?

I am happy to test the backup file (or even a sample backup file).

The Calendar entry was generated by BB Travel and it is a long file name. There were actually 6 such files generated and Winzip errors out on them all. The Contact entry is not the longest name in the zip so there must be another oddball character or something. But by using EXTRACT ALL under Winzip, I was able to get the "Block call" entry out of the zip. Funny, using Win's own archive viewer, the 6 Alaska entries show but the BLOCK CALL one does not.

I won't lose sleep over it - but you have my permission to do so! Just kidding.
