In for the win! A few Noted (pun intended) observations:

When all categories except 'Secure' are hidden, the app launches into the previously opened category. I would expect it to launch into 'Secure'.

Cannot reorder 'Clippings' category (e.g. move under 'Business' or 'Custom 1').

Linked text files are titled along with their paths. Leads to a cluttered view as well as inability to examine first line of the contents of the file. Perhaps an option to hide paths and to denote linked files with an asterisk or shebang or equivalent. Or shorten the paths by using the native Device/Media Card/Box/Dropbox descriptors vs file:///accounts/1000...

Inclusion of some type of integration with Evernote/Readability i.e. option to send note(s) to Evernote/Readability email for archiving (assuming Evernote and equivalent apps are not installed).

Option to open directly into an editable note into predefined category for quick jotting of notes. This can potentially save the user three clicks if 'Search' is launched upon app startup.

Option for text only (no HTML) similar to the excellent Penzus Editor. The ability to modify URIs without having the link open in Browser has always been an annoyance with Remember.

Option to rename linked text files from within Noted.

Syntax highlighting would be nice for on-the-go checking of scripts and such, syntax files to be placed in a definable folder. Character/word count and line numbering while we are at it =>) .

Small subjective gripe: The notepad icon appears narrower than most other app icons which gives it an anemic look and feel. Perhaps the icon can be reworked to reduce the amount of negative space between it and neighboring icons.

The developer can speak for himself, but I believe the app icon is a representation of a physical note pad, which are usually handheld and shaped in this fashion.

I personally loved Noted! Been using it exclusively as my notepad/reminder list/ todo app since I bought it!

I'll look into some of the clean-up ideas for linked notes. I won't be adding syntax highlighting though, I've done that in .NET applications for the desktop and that code for Cascades would take me as long as the rest of the project did. I don't get nearly enough downloads to justify that...

Perhaps hosting an icon contest with the winner earning a free copy of Noted? Would not only serve as a means to involve the community, but would also be a great way to advertise the app as well. Any plans for keyboard shortcuts for keyboard devices? BTW, I do appreciate the inclusion of custom icon support...

I don't know if there is much I can do; how long does it take to open for you?

Noticeably longer than Penzus, which is my current standard. gNewsReader with over 80 incoming feeds also lights up. Perhaps it can be preloaded by going headless because it is the slowest app to start up of any installed third-party (native) program on both of my devices. Slower to start up than BeWeather Pro. Any way to improve start up and UI response time would be great. Is a pure text (no HTML) option going to be supported anytime soon?

I can add a setting which will disable all "active text" interpretation, so that phone numbers, links, etc will not be detected and turn into links, would that work?

I'm always looking for ways to speed the startup, but my tab implementation is so complex that BlackBerry's lazy-load delegate framework won't even work...
