Can't read the whole article, but makes sense.

This could be the good news about the "hurry up" sale. If Watsa buys the company and takes it private with the help of the Pension Plan, they want it done quickly to end the uncertainty and hopefully start really rebuilding the company.

It's a win for BlackBerry, Watsa and Canada. Hope it this is what's in the works!

I hope this is true. Aside from our Amazon/BlackBerry fantasy, going private would be a relief to hear.

For us as fans of the phones, this is probably the best thing that could happen. The handset division is far more likely to survive if they go private than if they get bought by another company. I'm hoping Watsa can pull it off.

I do, however, also hope that the investors put some more pressure on the executive team to perform. There are still corporate issues that need to be addressed in order for BlackBerry 10 to have a chance at success.

When i read the first one . i was like ok this is just the mention of another company, but after finding a second article talking about it. i think that they could really come up with the money and take it private

It would be dream come true, and everything that's happened up to now would make sense. Are there sources for the article, or is it just conjecture?

Did I spell that right? It doesn't look right. Lol!

This is the best outcome for those of us wanting to see the brand and handsets survive, as well as keeping many Canadian jobs in Canada.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but the Storm 2 is my favorite phone of all I have used. I liked SurePress.

I am sure it's nice. I used to have a Tour I loved. But those are 5 year old devices. Anyway yeah not to derail the thread. Enough. Sorry.

I believe this is what's happening. I think there is already a plan in place to take BB private and Prem had to leave the board to kick it off.

There's no way they'd be planning to wrap up a deal within the next 90 days if they didn't already have a plan in place.

This. BlackBerry needs to recruit from silicone Valley. Taking the company private won't help if they don't have top tier talent (on all fronts, marketing, hardware design, UI design, etc).

So they can compete against every other major tech company in recruiting.

Makes sense when you have exclusive access to world class talent right in Waterloo.

This would be good news for fans of the devices - a stable ownership situation would provide some assurance to clients and prospective clients that new purchases would be supported for years to come. It may also help the brand's image by getting it out of the public spotlight to some degree as most things I read/hear about the company in the mainstream media seem to be focused on finding the cloud in every one of BlackBerry's silver linings. Positive changes like these could only help the company do a better job of delivering the products Crackberry readers love.

This would be bad news for investors in the company's stock. You don't become "Canada's Warren Buffett" by buying crappy companies for high prices. Great investors know that the best way to make money is by buying great companies at cheap prices. If a smart guy like Prem Watsa is buying doesn't it make you wonder if you are dumb for selling? If he is successful in taking BlackBerry private then a lot of shareholders will be forced to sell their shares to him at the price he agrees to.

Smart guy. Former board member with inside information about what a great company BlackBerry really is and the strengths of its prospects. A low share price for him to buy out the company. Some "rescue"!
