Sociele Generale analyst Andy Perkins has upgraded BBRY from "Hold" to "Buy". Hence the over 6% gain today of BBRY stock. In his research piece he says that the channel probes show the BB 10 phones selling well and he predicts $4 million sold already.

Andy Perkins does not know how to do math and do not take his analysis seriously. If his 4 million Z10 and 1 million Q10 channel checking is correct, Blackberry will make close to $1 EPS this quarter. How come he only get $0.06 EPS.

It's been widely reported as being from SELL to BUY. For example BlackBerry Phones Prompt Societe Generale Upgrade: Toronto Mover - Bloomberg

It is a big jump, which is why it's so news-worthy.

That said, it may also be that they simply hadn't paid any attention to the stock since they set it to sell, which might have been over a year ago. Anyone know? I can find no record of when they issued their previous rating. The history here doesn't show anything from thing going back to 2010! Analyst Ratings for BlackBerry (BBRY)

Edit: I didn't look hard enough. It appears they've ignored the stock through the entire last year, with their previous rating being issued June 29, 2012: http://www.analystratings.net/stocks/NASDAQ/BBRY/

I suppose that may be a sign they're relatively thoughtful about this, and not like those Detwiler types who seem to swing every which way from week to week.

Regardless of their estimate of phones sold is correct or not, what counts is the effect this analysis had on the stock.
