Found this article this morning... would have thought more than 8,000 handsets sold..,, hmmmm.,,,, What say you...

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/blackb...143732238.html

Morgan Stanley in a note on Monday said that BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ: BBRY) sales of its software and phones are "not tracking anywhere close" to where they need to be.

Shares recently traded at $9.73, down 0.87 percent.

Based on research and conversations, Morgan Stanley said that VARs and resellers are finding BlackBerry is a tough sell, even for enterprise customers. On the phone, Morgan Stanley said that as many as 8,000 Classic and Passport phones have been sold, "well below" the 2-3 million needed in FY16.

Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley said that even if BlackBerry is able to stem the declines in its enterprise unit, the $500 million in software revenue is unlikely. In short, BlackBerry will not "get anywhere close" to this goal.

8,000 for the quarter for both Classic and Passport? I don't need a survey to tell me that number is not correct.
I might believe 8,000 Classics sold through Verizon in three days Feb 26-28 prior to BlackBerry's quarter end but that's as far as I'd go.

800.000 would be realistic (and still a disaster). 8.000? no way this is true.

There's something odd about that number...I think there's a missing qualifier/category, such as "through AT&T retail stores"

I realise that my rep isn't as an BB optimist, but 8k seems a bit low, even to me.

Over what period? What happened to the 200k Passports sold that Chen was boasting about.

    Any further details?

If ATT I can believe it. One or two per store if offered? I can believe it.

And besides, if they had a lower production run and made money (or broke even a bit). It's still profit. Doesn't matter if they sold low.

Chen once said they need to sell 10 mio devices a year to survive (as a smartphone maker).

Pretty much. I have literally seen hundreds of Passports and Classics in the field...in the Toronto area alone. 8000 is a BS number.

He said that more than one year ago.

Last quarter, only after less than 2M devices sold, hardware division was profitable with low 40s gross margin. they are aiming to high 40s this quarter.

Its talking about the AT&T launch. We know how bad that went. Multiple threads in forum about lack of stock, store reps not aware of launch etc.

That's not possible I'm in Jamaica and I saw a passport couple days ago in dominoes, if it was just 8,000 I don't think a country where they don't offer any bb10 phones apart from q10 and z10 would have it here

This I could believe, being that the Passport and Classic have only been available from AT&T for what, a month? Reporting it as sales as a whole for both the Passport and Classic is shoddy reporting.

Perhaps because they are selling lots of stuff that's already been written down. I'd take everything Chen says concerning the smartphone division with a big grain of salt.

When i bought my Z10 when it came out in Canada, there was no line up at the kiosk and i was pretty much the only one who purchased a blackberry.
Same thing with my passport in November
In Ottawa, there are 308 MPs who have a blackberry and their assistants also have blackberry.
Yet i have rarely seen a blackberry used on the street, bus, cafe.
Not sure this number is wrong as everyone appears to be using apple or google phones.
Whenever I show my passport, everyone is sort of saying wtf is that....
Eventually the need to own anything BlackBerry will be supplanted by the more popular brands i think.
    A sad day,
