Eric Schmidt loves his Blackberry...Would Google buy Blackberry? [Speculation/Discussion]
There have been posts before about how Google's Eric Schmidt loves his Blackberry. Here's a CNET link:

The question then becomes, would Google be interested in purchasing Blackberry? Let's think about this:
1. He gets control over his favourite phone. (Actually it migh be his favorite phone) Not necessarily good business, but rich people like to buy stuff they like.
2. After you take out the almost $3 Billion in cash, the total cost is just about $2 Billion, or the commoditized price for the patents. That would give Google, essentially for free, BBM, BES, BB10, QNX, and handsets. That is good business.
3. They get control of more platforms and control a new ecosystem better. Samsung has kinda hijacked Android, and they might roll out a BB10 more tightly. Android apps work on top of BB10 so they don't have to start a new ecosystem from scratch. They could make Google Play run on BB10 / QNX.
4. The get to control BES10 and corporate networking, and a secure platform for communication.
5. They get a solid foundation of engaged people in social networking in BBM.
6. They get a standard operating system already used in cars (QNX) to use in their Google Car.
7. They have the cash to do it, and it would only be a small dent in their coffers.
I'm sorry if this has been discussed before (please provide links if so), but it seems very relevant now that Fairfax has set the bar so low.
What do you think?
