This is still my guess!

The main thing is that they sell enough units and make enough from services to keep the company going and keep thousands of people employed.

Which they can..by offering BBM cross platform, they have a huge opportunity to make some serious bucks and have a large valuation, if they can get the user base to increase fast.

And how are they going to make money from BBM? By loading it down with ads? My charging iOS and Android users for certian features? Or from companies using BBM channels? (if they even launch it) I love BlackBerry and BBM but having a top notch service isn't great unless you can use it to generate money.

?
And how are they going to do that?
How much are they charging for BBM?
Premium features that they most likely will charge for are "still coming" so that source of revenue is questionable for a while.
Is BBM add supported? None of the screenshots I've seen showed any.
BB Channels - has anyone noticed in big companies opening channels that might be a source of revenue?
Even if the were to grow to several 100 Million users over the next few months.... how much do you expect that each user is worth to an advertiser? How much would BB make directly for any future premium features? I don't see BB being able to really monetize BBM for at least a year. And while I think they could bring in a pretty good profit once they built up enough users. It would be good for a start-up company, it won't be anything for a multi-billion dollar company like BB.
We don't have a hard number but it appears that BB10 sales were sub one million - the final list looks like this:
so if we are really really really generous - and say 49% are BB10 (and that would be highly generous) - that would be about 1.8 million? So even I who is seen here at a troll was over-optimistic by least 400,000 units....

Two? That's cold.
"LOL. Remain Calm....and enjoy your Z. (~_*)"
The BB10 sales looks like they are going to be unbelievably low. I don't understand how I could have been so wrong in my guess. I think that by hanging around the CB forums, the kool-aid managed to filter its way into my subconscious.
I'm leaning towards sub-1,000,000 but I wouldn't be overly shocked at sub-500,000 in end users hands.
But, but http://forums.crackberry.com/bbry-f3...ounter-846274/

I was originally gonna say 1.6 but didn't wanna look like a dolt. Really thought full product lines across more carriers would have helped.
