Or so they think...
Don't believe anything you hear or read unless you heard it from Oprah or read it in The National Enquirer!
LOL.
All bears know how to talk about is phones. They are clueless that BBRY is more than phones.
? In the Interview, Gina Sanchez pretty much only talked about QNX, BES... and how the "parts" were worth more than the current price of the stock. She did mention Chen at first saying the company had a 50/50 shot and now he taught it was 80/20...
Ari Wald, head of technical analysis at Oppenheimer & Co - only talked about the technical aspects of the stock and how if you applied all those crazy charts that some love to use... that BlackBerry was in a trend that doesn't bode well for the stock.
Overall it was a quick overview that didn't go into details.
As for BlackBerry being crushed by the competition.... there isn't any doubt of that is there? Even if Chen turns things around, most likely it will be to stabilize sales, not to sudden sell 100 Million device a year.
How can they not mention "handsets"?
The one guy was focused on the technical aspects of the stock - he said nothing about it products.
The one lady was trying to talk about positive aspects of the stock - bringing up hardware was the last thing on her mind.
And that is the problem, BlackBerry is still predominately a hardware company and most everyone thinks they are out of the hardware business or that they should be. When your marketshare is 1% or 3% and it's still falling, what's to say?
What's apple market share and how much is it dropping like a stone? Apple is headed to 1 % market share as android eats them up. Who in their right mind would use an outdated 4 inch phone with outdated specs and obsolete OS for a premium price? I know countless people who mainly dropped apple for Android and got a SG4 and they couldn't believe how outdated their iphone was. They can't believe how SG4 feels like a computer and that iphone is a toy. Then you have a few who got the z 30 and have the same reaction. Apple is garbage but they have the best propaganda marketing team.

Ridiculous. And I know a couple of people who have switched to SG phones. The battery life is so pathetic they have to charge three times a day. Plus on Android you don't have access to the latest Apps. In the US everything comes out on ios first and then gets ported to Android.
In the US the iPhone is gaining market share in the cell phone space. Looking at smartphone share is not the right way to look at things. There isn't going to be a dumb phone market shortly. Besides who cares about share. The key issue is basic numbers. They sell more phones every year. A Lot More! That isn't going to change this year.

Ever used a S4 and an iPhone?
I personally use a Z30 but have these as testing devices at work and if I had the choice I would always take the iPhone over the S4.
It's just higher quality than Samsung... in both aspects : build quality and os....

Even if Android were to wipe Apple out, that doesn't help BlackBerry gain marketshare. But as we are talking about stocks.... besides the consumers who you appear to believe are brainwashed by Apple's propaganda. Investors are also still very interested in AAPL, they haven't gotten the "apple is headed to 1% marketshare" memo.
I'm not really sure where the Title came from, as nothing in the interview I watched said anything about Apple. But that seems to be the "story" going around that Apple is moving in on Enterprise. Many here discount this... but who used BlackBerries ten years ago? Doctors, Lawyers, Realtors, Stockbrokers, Bankers..... then BlackBerry spread to the rest of enterprise, government and consumers. Today where is BlackBerry? Government and enterprise customers that require higher levels of security or insist on the best management solution (Server & Devices). But the Doctors, Lawyers, Realtors, Stockbrokers, Bankers.... consumers - they have all moved on to devices that have more communications tools than just email. BB10 might have "worked" for most of them, if it had been release two years ago. Maybe even if they had gotten it right last year at launch it might have been accepted - but a buggy OS going up against too very mature and established OSs... didn't stand a chance.
Chen is going to focus on those areas where he hopes BlackBerry can still sell devices - Government, Highly regulated enterprise and the few markets where BlackBerry still has a presence. But I'm betting that in another year he'll give up on those developing markets as even there BlackBerry is not keeping up. When a market like Indonesia is selling about 4 Million devices a quarter and BlackBerry only sold about 100K there last quarter... it is easy to see that the winds have changed even there.
Balckberry is being or more acurately, has been crushed by IOS and Android. That's not news.
Thinking in terms of finding a positive in all the bad news, Blackerry can only improve from this low point. Further, I think we're seeing some very interesting dynamics in the market.
Security issues seem to be on the uptick, IOS is declining as Apple cannot compete in a commoditized market and Samsung continues to punch out millions of highly functional cheap devices. Interestingly, we're starting to see Goolgle try to monitize Android (saw that coming) and will possibly dent Samsung. I also think Google will finally disclose (more likely be outed) the hidden information collection "features" inside Android, which will cause consumers to pause on a Android re-purchase.
This all bodes well for Blackberry but, they seem to have develope the unique ability to "snatch defect from the hands of victory" every time.
If one simply judges Blackberry via stocks (which unfortunately a lot do), then yes it is being "crushed" by Apple and Android. But what most haven't considered as equally important factors, are how much social interest (i.e. Youtube, Facebook, Twitter) there is in Blackberry. Market share is really just about $$. But to consider the social aspects of it really tell how long Blackberry's road trip will last, literally, and it shows that Blackberry is not being crushed.
Didn't realize that social media was a buzz with positive comments about BlackBerry.
Do you have a link showing they are trending?

You make this sound like a race to the bottom is a good thing.
Once price becomes a feature, then the product becomes a commodity. Profits are minimized as the only distinction between products is price.
Actually, Apple is uniquely positioned to keep their products from becoming commoditized. That's the whole point of developing all their own features. They pretty much own the entire supply chain of hardware software and content not to mention their retail presence.
A commodity device is what you get when you outsource your hardware design and production to a company like Foxconn.
Which device is a commodity? The one that has custom manufactured parts or the one that uses off-the-shelf components. The platform that is designed specifically for the hardware or the platform that is designed for whatever can run Android including a non-Android device.

Google Trends - June 2014 data shows an uptick compared to May 2014, and it's only partial data.
So far that's all I have got, maybe more to come later.
