Software and services will be their bread and butter, and they will continue to expand their cross-platform strategy, bringing more apps and functionality to the other major platforms.
QNX and the Internet of Things are where the biggest growth opportunities lie.

The reason BlackBerry became such a worldwide phenomenon in the first place is because the average Joe (even teenagers) found out how awesome their hand sets were. That phenomenon drove the stock to the $140 range.
And it is not that different today. The Z30 and Passport could both be potential hits even in the main stream consumer market if folks simply knew about them.
For Chen to ignore this while constantly spewing his enterprise focus is a huge disservice to shareholder value... by ignoring what BlackBerry could be again.
Posted via CB1003-22-15 08:34 PMLike 3 - What make you think that BB can compete in hardware? I want BB to survive, but with each quarter, I am getting less and less convinced that keeping the hardware division is of any help. Sure, it would suck for us fans, but saving the company (and the employees working there) takes priority.techvisor likes this.03-22-15 08:36 PMLike 1

Most people still owned feature phones when BlackBerry was the market leader in smartphones. And there was still a considerable number of people who still had landlines and didn't even own a cell phone.
Before the iPhone came out, what other options were there besides BlackBerry, anyway? Android was still in the works, after all.

Looks, who is just came on board for BlackBerry help with their security? Samsung and Google just a few to start the new year. Its QNX is very strong. Don't under estimate John Chen! Give him a couple years or more for turn around. BlackBerry earnings next week will be fine. Chen has been said this many times on the network interview that chance BlackBerry survive is 99%. His estimate is a lot better than MS and GS; he is the one who runs BlackBerry so he has more inside information than anyone else in the company and out side the company.

- You can't compare the market back then to the market today. They are two completely different situations.

- The consumer market is leaning more to Androids and Iphone, so a really tough uphill battle it is going to be for BlackBerry.
Here is some information below from South Africa, regarding increasing Android market share.
1 USD = approximately 12 South Africa Rand

Cape Town - Android-powered smartphones are the most popular among South Africans who buy their phones at the Orange online store.
This is according to data released by the local online store, which specialises in lower priced smartphones as well as mobiles that are generally not available to South Africans.
Orange offers the Motorola and Google Nexus smartphones which do not have official distribution agreements in SA.
However, in terms of the Apple iPhone, Orange can only offer refurbished gadgets because of an exclusive distribution agreement with a national retailer.
And here are the top selling smartphones on the Orange online store for November and December 2014:
November 2014
1) Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen)
2) Sony Xperia Z2
3) Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini
4) Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
5) Google Nexus 5
6) Motorola Moto G (1st Gen) 4G
7) Sony Xperia E3
8) Sony Xperia Z3
9) Acer Liquid E700
10) Huawei Ascend P7
December 2014
1) Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen)
2) Google Nexus 5
3) Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
4) Huawei Ascend P7
5) Motorola Moto G (1st Gen) 4G
6) Sony Xperia Z1 Compact
7) LG G3
8) CAT B100
9) Acer Liquid E700
10) Sony Xperia Z2
Android market
Research revealed by an expert indicates that South Africans are increasingly shifting to smartphones equipped with Google's Android operating system.
World Wide Worx Managing Director Arthur Goldstuck told attendees at a Sony Mobile event in Johannesburg last week that South Africa is projected to have 23.6 million smartphones by the end of 2015. About half of these devices will be equipped with Android, Goldstuck added.
“Thanks to the low-cost Android phones that are now coming onto the market that might be an even higher number," Goldstuck said.
"Clearly, at this stage, South Africa is becoming an Android market," he said.
Growing sales
Blake Levitan, the country manager of Orange Horizons in South Africa, told Fin24 that the online platform has found success with a broad range of shoppers looking to snap up devices at lower cost.
"Since its launch in South Africa in early 2013 the Orange online store has done exceptionally well, exceeding expectations. We believe that this is a result of the Orange online store appealing to the needs of not only the tech savvy consumers but also first time online shoppers looking to buy from a trusted source."
Orange is attempting to sell devices at competitive prices in SA as well.
For example, the Huawei Mate 7 phablet costs R5 670, and the Sony Xperia Z3 costs R6 930 on Orange.03-23-15 06:49 AMLike 0 - Blackberry and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) have announced a new partnership after which Android users will be able to use BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) specific apps and Blackberry users will be able to download and use Android apps. This is a major shift in the strategy of BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY).
As far as I can tell, this goes a bit further than Chen's previous announcement to make the "BlackBerry Experience" available on "other platforms." This looks like an actual trade: BlackBerry Experience for Android in exchange for Google apps. Am I reading too much into it?03-23-15 07:03 AMLike 0 -

However it would make sense for some Google apps to appear on BB10 as they are commonly used in enterprise environments now.03-23-15 07:50 AMLike 0 -

- I've seen this article posted multiple times but haven't seen anything on either CrackBerry or N4BB discussing this. It would seem to be a major news item if true as it implies BlackBerry has worked out a deal with Google for full Android app access, which you would think would imply Google Play store access and Service access. So why aren't we hearing anything further?
Doubt it would allow Google Services (including Play) though.03-23-15 09:07 AMLike 0 - I've seen this article posted multiple times but haven't seen anything on either CrackBerry or N4BB discussing this.
