Despite BlackBerry not exactly being the hottest brand at the moment (although they did nab a spot on Top 100 Innovators of 2013), it seems that the company still has a handful of loyal customers as evidenced in Malaysia where the BlackBerry Z30 was launched a couple of days ago on the 5th of October. The handset was offered by local carrier, Celcom, and the launch saw about 100 individuals who started lining up as early as 8am. According to the reports, BlackBerry managed to sell about 200 units of the BlackBerry Z30 in a matter of 2 hours, and we expect that the number will grow as more customers are introduced to the device over time. Were not sure how many Z30 units have been sold worldwide, but 200 units in 2 hours is a pretty decent effort by BlackBerry, granted it is not the eye-watering millions that companies such as Apple and Samsung have managed to rack up in the past. The BlackBerry Z30 will be BlackBerrys largest handset to date and sports a 5 HD display and a quad-core processor, making it a more attractive device in a market where large displays are starting to become a highly desired feature. Will BlackBerry be able to replicate this success in other markets? We guess only time will tell.: BlackBerry Sells 200 Z30 Units In 2 Hours During Malaysian Launch | Ubergizmo

yea...good news but really...it was basically a buy one get one free offer for the first 200 people. I would've lined up and purchased it if I could get a Z10 for free with it.

Buy one get one free and only 200 units, hardly earth shattering stuff. Please provide ALL the info when you post, the headline, even though it is actually pretty sad and a low number, is missing VERY important info. Next headline "BBRY gives away 500 Z30's in one hour in Times Square."

yeah..giving free Z10, ticket to alicia keys concert, subsidized Z30

with that kind of deal, even someone who dislike BB10 like me, will join the line to buy z30 hoping to get quick money by selling them separately

    This is an excellent pace.

If they continue selling at that pace for 24 hours per day, for 365 days a year, they will surpass the 9 million iPhone 5s units sold (in the first weekend) sometime in the year 2024.

It's kind of a coincident that 200 unit sold matches the first 200 people offer deal.

    you are wrong

it's 18 million, because BlackBerry also giving free Z10...besides it's only in malaysia

can you imagine if BB giving same promotion worldwide ?? they can finally defeat Android + iPhone combine...alicia keys will be perform in concert everyday free only for Z30 buyers ..

yeah BB have to suffer a massive loss, but most important thing they will be number 1 vendor worldwide

I thought blackberry was somewhat popular in Malaysia? 200 units on launch after alleged "lineups" seems low.

A single Apple store probably sells more iPhones on launch in one hour...yet alone the hundreds of stores and thousands of retail partners they have around the world.

Giving away Z10 does not spell bad afterall, it's an aggressive move and if it goes well the result will be far more greater.

BB need more people to use their BB10 devices, sitting in store n being write off is worst!! I have to salute Celcom on this, smart move.

The only ones who care about that are those who have them. How about BBRY do something to make you all happy? Then stories and post like this will stop.

Just for some more additional perspective.

100,000 units XiaoMi Android phones sold out in just 2 minutes. This is a pace that is 30,000 times greater than the 200 Z30s in two hours.

100,000 Units of HongMi Phone Sold Out In 2 Minutes

This was in China. Alicia Keys did not have to give any concerts to achieve this, and no freebie phone was offered either.

    no surprise.

in August 2013, China sold 30M units of Andriod phones, basically average 1M unit per day.
If you release a new popular phone in some day, you can easily sell millions + unit a day.

Xiaomi is doing online sell only, so lots of order pops in when they start to sell.

Basically US and China represent the two different mods for phone sell:
US: subsides with contract: that is why high-end iphone is so popular here.
China: no subsides, phones with a price tag > $250 USD do not really have a big market, and the high-end is also ruled by Apple/Samsung.

The HongMi Phone is one of the cheapest quad-core smartphones in the Chinese market. It is available for RMB 799 ($130) on the price tag. HongMi Phone has a 4.7-inch HD display, 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6589T quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal memory and 8MP of camera on the rear-side of the device - See more at: 100,000 Units of HongMi Phone Sold Out In 2 Minutes.

LOL, $130, it has some better spec than Z10.
