Look at NetFlix, a complete cluster@$#@$#... but does anyone really think they are going away??
they aren't in the same category. they just made a few dumb moves, but quickly reversed direction to avoid a continuation of pissing off their customers. RIM simply doesn't know how to make a phone people want, nor would they know how to market it, if they did. ergo, they WILL eventually die.

i really think it will be. I think RIM sees this too. Which is why they have come up with the "Blackberry Fusion" or whatever. This allows companies to use RIM's services even though they might not be using BB phones.
LOL! You mean like apple's tacit admission that Windows was beating the tar out of them, by allowing Windows to be installed on Macs???

Why would anyone in their right mind presume that RIM's fortunes are going to turn around? They have inept management and lackluster products that are being eclipsed by their rivals. I predict that RIM will continue it's downward spiral, into oblivion.
I don't agree on either points of "inept management" or "lackluster products".

Management has most definitely been in panic mode, . I'd say that up to the PlayBook launch they'd been reacting to events more than they've been getting ahead of them. Fair enough. I believe they're recognizing that and dealing with it.

Product has fallen behind the curve, but BBOS7 did a lot to bring them back. BBM-enabled apps are interesting, too. Whether they catch on remains to be seen, sure, but I think the chance is there.

BB10 promises at least some Android compatibility. Publishers with current Android apps now have the opportunity to reach a new audience with relative ease.

I don't know, I'm using the phone I want and so is my wife. Both of us for the past few years. Apple is not making the phone I want nor are Motorola, Samsung, etc.
RIM been around long enough to regroup. About what 15 years? So they have a bad year. Doesn't mean they are out.

I know rim isn't going to just die/go out of business or be bought out. Whoever keeps saying that, likely doesn't enjoy their device or probably had a bad experience with one device a few years ago. Doesn't mean it's like that with newer devices. Plain hating or bashing means ignorance. Wish people would just have some respect.

I think that is a good move on their part. At least it shows management does have a site on the future. I would think that the development of BB Fusion began months ago before the jump on the iHate RIM bandwagon started rolling, because they saw the need for it since the mobile world is still evolving. Its going to be months before its out, and we all know anything can happen within a few months.

Actually supporting Windows with iPod/iTunes is a better example than Boot Camp. Supporting Windows with Boot Camp was really about trumpeting what Apple believed to be its superior hardware:

Fastest Windows Vista Notebook? A Mac | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

    "Fastest: Apple MacBook Pro
The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year (through 10/25/07) is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac. Not a Dell, not a Toshiba, not even an Alienware. The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro's PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway's E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook's score is far more impressive simply because Apple couldn't care less whether you run Windows

Anyone buy in the upper 15s today? Another 52 week low hit at $15.93 before short covering brought thye market a bit up from its lows near the close.

Anyone still averaging down in the low 16s here?

I'm not, just interested if people still have faith in their investment?

I expect another blood bath thursday after the bell. I think we may start seeing signs of market share declining internationally the same way it swept the company in the last year in north america.

I'm not hoping for this, but I believe this is what's to come.

With only 150k PB sold on DEEP discounts and them warning they sold less phones than expected with a full quarter of OS7 devices, I don't expect anything positive. The most best we can hope for is that it's not AS bad as the analysts thought but if the last 4 quarters are any indication, they will disappoint once again sending the stock further down.

We may slowly start to see it climb IF they can deliver on OS 2 and BB10 but to be honest, it's been so long in the works, with so many broken promises that I don't think it will be enough to turn it around. The perception of the company is terrible. The majority of investors have lost faith in management's ability to change course.

I saw the latest ubuntu release on a macbook pro featured on youtube last week. Windows isn't the only option thanks to intel chiparoos!

Hmm, when will apple adopt AMD? ATI is part of it, only due time...

    Hilarious...

Anyways, only the mods would know what happened to BlackJack.

Gotta say the traders sure want to push things a low as it can go before jumping in it. Guess they haven't milked the normal folks portfolios enough yet.

I hope they aren't aiming for a price point of $10. It's starting to get obvious.

The price point they're aiming for is a lot lower than $10. They'll wait until around $7, before jumping in. If you had shorted at $17, or $16, you would clean up when it hits about $7, which i believe is the tipping point. If you're waiting for something "magical" from RIMM, you'd better put on your ruby red shoes, and click your heels together three times. "There's No Place Like Home", There's No Place Like Home. Or some traders "just happened" to make a lucky break and are making tons on short selling. For all the losers there are winners. Just saying.

It also goes without saying that if it were not for the current economic uncertainty and the US economic woes in general Apple stock would look ripe for the "picking". I mean, if speaking as a profit-first investor, if there was an agreement hatched to force the stock price fall "re-adjustment", oh the money to be made.

Apple would be one of the fattest cash cow ripe for the milking.
And no this is not an invitation for all the iDefenders to go all crusader on me. I know full well why it will not happen now atm.

This makes sense. Thursday night earnings call will be remarkably bad. Not just the results, everyone knows they will be brutal. The tone will continue to be "We will release a new operating system next year called, uh, we'll get back to you, and new phones obsoleting the ones that are not selling, and CIOs will clamor to have our software manage devices from all manufacturers". Total out of touch, echo chamber predictions from the two co-CEOs. The lack of connection to reality will panic folks more than the numbers.

Figure Thursday close $14.50 or so, $6 plunge at the open Friday to $8.50 and a slow slide throughout the day.

Someone takes a major position late Friday or next week when it is $7, ousts the two fools, and sells the IP and other assets at close to book within 90 days. Nice profit, and someone like Google, Microsoft, Nokia, or HTC get some UI patents at a discount. The name and other marks can be sold independently, perhaps you'll see Samsung candy bar feature phone "Blackberries" as the free with contract or prepaid phone of choice mid-year.

Hmm, uh, rim isn't selling itself or going to be purchased. The markets always go up and down, it's never steady. I wonder who adjusts those numbers for everybody, human or computer?

Makes absolutely no sense at all. RIM already revised guidance with the "bad news" you love so much to repeat, and that is figured into the current price. Expect to be surprised with news and results that will make you trolls so sad.

O.K. I'll be waiting for this news that will surprise me. If it happens, that would be a surprise, and i'll be the first to admit it. That being said, if the news is bad for Rimm, will you admit that you were wrong, or somehow figure a way to blame it on Apple?

If RIM is approaching it's bottom in stock price, then news of insiders buying like Mike L. and Jim B. should surface. After all, they know the product pipe for the coming year with an eye on saving the company and RIM will regain it's footing. Or, Mike L. and Jim B. realize there might be a few more quarters of pain as BBOS 7 sales slow further as everyone awaits BBOS 10 phones. Also there is no certainty of PB 2 being a bigger hit.

Maybe Brothers RIM are waiting to see what the day will be like on Ground Hog Day before buying RIM shares. Will they see their shadow or a new spring for RIM shares?

    We'll see....
