BlackBerry's core products were BIS and BES.

When the former disappeared, Chen was forced to dump devices (BB10 was folly) and double down on enterprise.

Where is the lack of vision? It's been laser-focused since he arrived.
BB10 might have been a lot of things, but it was not folly.

Laser focused on what? "Security"? That's like saying that McDonald's is laser focused on food.

BB10 was folly by any and all business metric. It was just a giant pit of despair that BlackBerry barely recovered from - not that the product wasn't interesting, or that some (like myself) enjoyed it for a while.

BlackBerry is focused on its extensive enterprise software portfolio and IoT (QNX auto, radar, Autonomous, etc).

    It's all about securing endpoints.

An incoherent collection of startups that Chen still hasn't been able to merge in any detectable way. BB is a microcap company now slowing losing money but making its interest payments to Prem.

Startups? Pretty much everything was developed in-house. Good was the only significant acquired contribution to leverage the mature suite they already had - and even that has been fully integrated into Blackberry proper.

Everyone at BlackBerry is pulling in the same direction for once.

Hopefully, Chen is not sleep at the wheel. Storm is coming https://seekingalpha.com/article/417...aster-ride-yet

Sell Ottawa chaps to ford and hopefully, he still have someone left to fight the battle for bb. (or he is going to run it to the ground to sell it for cheap? Or with 5g in his sleeve to fight at multiple fronts).. conite, got any insight? Like what target is on his laser focus locked on? Any hints are most appreciated.

No way would Chen invest enough in R and D to compete with the big tech companies. I think he has to pray that Google acquires BB.

Why should he invest? He rather pays interest to Prem Watsa without any use for the cash and himself millions of $ in compensation for achieving zero for shareholders.

He stopped the bleeding. BlackBerry shares have been rising, on average, since he took over.

Oh yeah, 3% a year in four years of restructuring (gain in net worth due in to Qualcomm subtracted). What a great turn around that really justifies the millions of $ in combination for John Chen

Yeah, look at the chart. It's a straight line around 10 for four years during which the market went up 50%. You can't give him the benefit of starting with the stock's all time low as he and Prem cash were coming in.

The tide normally lifts all boats, but John Chen was still able to drag BlackBerry ship down.

He should either step down or the exercise price of his new compensation package should start at 40$ and the cash bonus should only be granted when shares are reaching 50$ within two years.

Right now he gets millions of $ in compensation again for just doing nothing

Yes, it's quite something that we are even talking about BlackBerry in 2018.
