    Interesting chart pattern here:

The BBRY Café. [Formerly: I support BBRY and I buy shares]-rim-april-19c-2013-chart.jpg

In the first hour, we formed a perfect Inverse Head & Shoulders Pattern which is bullish for a rally. The stock dropped, found support at $ 13.38/shr for 10 minutes, made new lows, rallied back to $ 13.39/shr for 10 more minutes and then took off to complete the Inv. H&S. Now this is important because it leaves our uptrend intact and leads us to a possible reversal that will see us make some nice gains today.

Here is another chart of support levels, note the support that we moved into briefly today. I see us now moving to $ 13.75/shr as planned this morning. That's the 5-dma.

Look for $ 13.75/shr on this run.

PS. My bad, at least my eyes, that should be $ 13.75/shr for the 5-dma. Didn't read it right! Ha!

I gotta ask here because as much as I pride myself in knowing fundamental analysis. I know next to nothing about technical. In your honest opinion do you find it helpful as a money maker or just as a theory for some guidance. I've never traded on technical analysis simply because its stupid to try and do that if like myself are uneducated on real life practice.

I guess my real question is, if you know your technical analysis like a champ can you generally make the right decisions with this information or is it always still 50/50.

Is there any doubt the SP is being manipulated? Is it not time to leave the US exchange for a more free and open market type exchange? There is a reason why the elite from around the world has pulled out money out of the US to the point the US had to print money like a banana republic. I know business people who have said China is more a capitalist country then the US. It's sad but true.

Agree, but I'm still keeping my eyes out for the competition's releases this year. Blackberry is to release several devices, some at lower specs, so I want to see what else is out there being released at the same time. My opinion is there will be some really big choices to make this holiday season for the consumers. I'm looking forward to it for sure.

Not sure if you guys and gals watched Alec Saunders pod cast with Kevin and crew? It appeared to me TH will be shedding some light on the "Mobile Computing" message next month a BlackBerry Jam.

Sales are steady, anecdotal evidence young people see the device as cool, Q launch and server solutions all add up to a bright future for BlackBerry and our share price...the short term trading means nothing unless your in that game.
I am not worried in the least...just my two cents.

I got the same impression. Although I think Thor is going to announce tools that allow developers to create a "network of things" but how this translates into cash for BBRY is still many years away IMO.

Of course the SP is being manipulated, very obvious. But knowing that, you can make some fantastic short term gains. ie: buying at lows around the time of put expiry, so far we have April 20, 26, May 3 and onward. The shorts are a big force and so in the interim while waiting for your long term gains, use some liquidity for this purpose...it's a great way to trade.

Again.... China is definitely a more free and open and capitalist country than the US. Thanks for the heads up. Do you have any idea where their money is headed.... To the US. Nobody wants any part of Russia or Europe or other economies that are even more propped up.

So you're moving to China? I wouldn't want to be in their market when the US starts increasing the tax on their imports. Watch their entire economy collaps within one quarter. So, why don't you put your investments in their hands and let us know how it works out for you.

Nokia sales of feature phones were a lot weaker than expected, people is switching to smartphone at a faster pace than expected.
BlackBerry sells a lot of cheap phones in emerging markets, It could be hit by this trend. But BlackBerry doesn't have a good offer of BS10 to the low-mid range to counter this effect. So the next quarter we could see an even bigger loss of suscribers than in the last one.

BlackBerry doesn't make feature phones so it's not a feasable comparison.

The point they were making is the switch from feature phones to smartphones - that uptick. It's an interesting point once we get those low-end devices later in the year - maybe we help accelerate that switch a bit, and profit as a result

Not to mention, their only true advantage, low cost labor is increasing and will no longer be a huge advantage going forward. There is no reason to believe a state controlled economy will succeed. Ask the Russians, Venezuelans, Cubans, the list goes on. Eventually it all falls apart. The US may be headed there too, but at least I am enjoying the ride.

I'm not discounting the fact that having low priced BB10 devices will be good in those markets but to group the current offerings by BB as in OS7, with the feature phone segment is not logical.

After catching up last night and reading that you're from Calgary I have to ask if you know whether you are the only person in Calgary to own that Ferrari in that specific colour? The reason I ask is that I think based on that info alone and with the rarity of the car, I can assume that we may have a mutual friend.

    Non the less, beautiful car.

Now lets see if this thing will close above 14 on TSX today

That's a great question! The allure of TA is the chance to make additional money during times when there is no news as well as times when you need to know what computers are looking at for an entry or an exit point. To say, "I want o buy at $ 12.00/shr this time around" is foolish when it clearly means the stock is going to collapse. And so you need a method of figuring out what the trade will look like when the big players step in. I provide the TA because I don't see many others doing the same, over time we can develop the pattern and fine tune it to work for our trading purposes. I was concerned earlier today when we dropped below my uptrend line, but in the end, it didn't violate my TA at all. I had to see the pattern complete itself in order to confirm that my trends still are valid.

Here is what happened in the next hour:

The BBRY Café. [Formerly: I support BBRY and I buy shares]-rim-april-19d-2013-chart.jpg

As you can see, we formed a perfect Inverse Head & Shoulders Pattern, it was then followed by a rally very near the 5-dma which is our target in the next hour. The traders knew we were heading for $ 13.75/shr and started selling just before the target, thus stopping it. We then backed up, held for a bit and rallied slightly, this formed a very short-term top where we now have a true H&S pattern. So TA would tell us that we have to retest the "even/unchanged level of the day which, low and behold, we did. Now the selling pressure is gone, the trend is slightly positive and we must head for that 5-dma again and finish what we started. A TA person sees this instantly in most cases and trades the stock accordingly. The fact that the market is down and we are up shows you that the stock is slightly positive today.

And so TA is very important to help us understand what real money is thinking while we wait for news. News always trumps TA but within that context, like NOK yesterday, where the stock stopped trading down right at the 200-dma, we see how TA even controls the news.

The problem with BlackBerry has been too much "questionable news" distorting the trade. I for one was caught off guard when we came back from our trip and found out the Heins has put his foot down on future questionable/crap news, this took the "bad trading" out of the stock and left us with light volume and confusion. Now we are starting to trade with the full power of TA while we wait for news. So now we can predict when and where the stock will trade here and it just takes so time to get use to that idea again. The big companies like Apple are really easy to trade, it is the ones like BBRY that are more difficult when 30 million shares can make or break your theory. The chart for BBRY is confusing right now but it is clear that we are now in control of the chart pattern again. We will still see the influence of options expiry on the trade but that isn't anything like a Hedge Fund creaming your investment! I see us moving up here as that $ 13.75/shr mark needs to be hit today.

I would say that trading AAPL is about 90% accurate using TA, BBRY has been 65% with bonus/crap news and more like 90% without it. I hope that things stay this way.

PS. I have a strong academic back ground, and I'm a former specialist in trading investments for a major firm, I use fundamentals to get into a trade but I spend my time giving TA on this thread simply because I get plenty of requests in messages to this site. Best of luck and let's make some money!

I am a big fan of TA and have incorporated into my trading strategies for over 25 years, with much success. But to those new to TA I say an emphatic "caveat emptor": There is no magic in TA and well-established patterns can be trumped, as morganplus8 states, by news at any moment. And the bigger the news the more likely it is able to affect the stock price and with greater magnitude (in either direction--good news generally causing an increase in share price and bad news doing the opposite; depending on the trend leading up to that news, there could be a continuation pattern or a technical reversal). If you believe that no news is likely to affect the stock then you can place more "trust" in the patterns you see. In general, I think the most informed trader is the one who combines fundamental analysis and technical analysis; I also feel that TA is especially good when trying to determine when to enter a trade or when to exit and I often set limit orders based on what the charts tell me is a reasonable enter/exit price. TA can also help in determining how much time will likely pass before a certain price is reached--and that's especially useful when trading options.
