I do agree with this guy that given the current SP, BlackBerry should pursue buying back shares. A big chunk of cash is spoken for in the Cylance deal, but buying shares this low will save money vs offsetting dilution later from a conversion of their outstanding debt to stock in the future.

BlackBerry Edges Up As It Launches Secure Communication System For Cities, Autonomous Vehicles2018-12-10 12:55:58 PM ET (MT Newswires)

12:55 PM EST, 12/10/2018 (MT Newswires) -- Blackberry (BB.TO) edged higher on Monday after the company said it is making a Security Credential Management System (SCMS) for city smart systems and autonomous vehicles to authenticate information shared between systems.

The company said the system allows interactions between driverless vehicles and municipal systems like traffic lights and smart roads while ensuring "users can trust the validity of information received from other systems".

BlackBerry said it would provide the SCMS without service fees to original equipment makers and public officials.

"The future of autonomous vehicles cannot be realized until intelligent transportation systems are put in place," John Chen, BlackBerry's chief executive said in a statement. "By removing barriers such as security, privacy and cost, we believe our SCMS service will help accelerate the many smart city and connected vehicle pilot programs taking place around the world."

The company's shares were last seen up $0.01 to $10.66 on the Toronto Stock Exchange, near the 52-week low of $10.585.

So what is the new 'trading at cash' level now that BlackBerry blew their wad on Cylance?

    Man! See that chart today?
Last time I remember seeing a sawtooth waveform like that was in grade 11 electronics class just before I blew up my breadboard project.

Wish I had more to spend on this. Seems like free money down here.

Yeah, regarding the BlackBerry share back proposal, that would help to stabilize this thing at bit, wouldn't it?

I just saw that on twitter. To me the most interesting takeaway was that Chen uses a KEY2 and keeps the GPS turned off. Which to me was interesting in light of this article I saw yesterday on apps and location tracking

I wonder how much of the recent drop can be attributed to end of year tax loss selling?

I dunno...I think most of it has to do with the orange moron's ranting and raving lately. The markets have been tanking all over, and tanking hard.

Hopefully the new year brings some recovery.

BlackBerry will turn things around “very shortly”, John Chen says

2018 has been all downhill for BlackBerry (BlackBerry Stock Quote, Chart NYSE, TSX:BB), whose stock has lost 43 per cent of its value since an early January high.

But investors can expect a turnabout in the near future, says CEO John Chen, who thinks shareholders should be pleased by his company’s corporate execution and financial stability.

And BB has dropped below RSI=30

Watching BB stock over the past few days has made me want to open a vein and just be done with it. How can a stock that has just made such a significant acquisition be pounded down so much ? Is the market saying it was a bad transaction ? Are their other negative activities happening behind the scenes which will come out next Friday ?

Is this company really this bad ?

Buy the stock. You will get a short term bounce after earnings. Be prepared to sell quickly. This is a trading stock - until the earnings growth catches up with all the announcements.

The market does not value what BlackBerry management is saying. They have to show results.
