Normally the language includes "we will vigorously defend against the accusations, " or "We have done nothing improper and categorically deny" .

"We will fight" is rather lame and suggests that they are already looking to settle. Ha ha
that's true. there is also some signalling effect with it being left for the deputy general counsel to comment, rather than main counsel.

BlackBerry's Facebook Suit Is Latest Salvo in Patent Battle

The lawsuit may be a declaration that BlackBerry expects other companies to reach licensing deals.

The lawsuit is “not just written for Facebook; it’s written for others against whom they are going to proceed,” Schonfeld said. “A complaint of this detail is extremely unusual, and is probably meant to be used and understood, to create apprehension among other companies.”

The launch of Shift AUTOMOTIVE will be marked by a keynote address during the Geneva International Motor Show—media days of which are underway now—by BlackBerry Chief Security Officer Alex Manea. Manea will outline how car manufacturers must secure autonomous and connected cars in order to win consumers’ trust.

Interesting to note that BlackBerry said "the door is open" in regard to forming a partnership with Facebook. This has happened once before between Yahoo and Facebook:

The last time Facebook fought a big patent lawsuit was in 2012.

Yahoo was the plaintiff at the time. Facebook countersued; shortly after that both parties sat down and negotiated a settlement that saw no cash exchange hands and a stronger partnership between the two companies.

A consensus seems to forming about BlackBerry's intent with its suits:

BlackBerry seems to have prepared its suit ... by laying out a 117-page complaint against Facebook explaining why the patents it holds were truly innovative at the time they were invented, said Jim Wallace, a lawyer who represented NTP Inc in a major court battle against BlackBerry in the early 2000s.
“They’ve done everything they can to send a message to the defendants and the world: ‘We’ve got strong patents and you better not screw with us,” Wallace said.
BlackBerry settled its fights with Avaya, Blu and Cisco before the cases went to trial, and that’s likely to happen here too, said lawyer Mark Schonfeld of Burns & Levinson in Boston, who specialises in software-patent litigation.
BlackBerry has “one of the strongest patent portfolios in the United States in certain spaces,” Schonfeld said, citing patents for wireless networks and digital information processing.

In a review of BlackBerry patents three months ago one patent expert had this to say:

A glance through this list (of patents) tells us that these are ground-level innovations and therefore highly coveted when it comes to licensing.

Just in the last six months, Blackberry patents were cited by examiners
as ‘Highly Relevant (X)’ prior art for 70 patent filings from heavy hitters
such as Qualcomm, Intel, Ericsson, and even Samsung, among others.
This is part of the total 200 ‘Highly Relevant’ citation cases for the
    portfolio over the last year.

The larger list of citation cases also includes companies such as
Apple, Gemalto, Sony, Google, Bose, and many more.

Of course, lead identification is just a small part of licensing, but this
is a good indicator of why this portfolio has merit, and why the IP
licensing revenue expectation of $100 million (in Q2) can not only be met but
    perhaps even exceeded.

After five years, my feeling is this is simply washing shares back and forth between the manipulators, I don't believe there are any shares for sale in this price range. Unfortunately, doesn't seem like there are any big buyers in a rush to accumulate stock

General information on Apple iPhone sales, as China remains an important global barometer:

How Apple Stacks Up in China’s Smartphone Scene
    https://marketrealist.com/2018/03/ho...?source=nasdaq"
"In 2017, for instance, IDC data showed that Apple had dropped to fifth place in China’s smartphone market after selling 41.1 million iPhones in the country to earn itself a 9.3% market share. Last year, Apple was ranked the fourth-largest smartphone vendor in China with a 9.6% market share after shipping 44.9 million iPhones in the country.
Apple is expected to launch three iPhone models this year. One of the models is expected to be modestly priced, suggesting that Apple is trying to broaden its smartphone market by appealing to cost-conscious consumers. Elsewhere, a modestly priced, high-end iPhone could help Apple push back against competition from Google (GOOGL), Sony (SNE), and BlackBerry (BB).

BlackBerry’s patent infringement suit against Facebook might be just the beginning

In light of the recent complaint against Facebook et al., Envision IP analyzed the seven patents asserted by BlackBerry to determine the merits of the case, as well to determine if other third-parties could potentially be future targets of these patents.

A larger takeaway could be the patent re: blockchain technology acquired from Certicom

In addition, the claims recite generating a seed and performing a hash function on the seed. Such language appears very relevant to blockchain-based encryption, and specifically for storing and securing cryptocurrency wallets which can rely on a seed that is hashed. As such, the ‘944 patent may have additional monetization value across various industries.
