I'm shocked this board has not discussed AAPL earnings yet. I'm surprised the stock is holding up so well considering the slight revenue and margin miss. Even the most important part of their business, iPhone sales, has slowed. Let's not forget its all about the iPhone 8 now, so iPhone 7 sales don't matter any more, right? But maybe I'm missing the point. Maybe its all about the massive stockpile of cash they hold and continue to use to buy back shares and take them out of the market. Either way congrats for AAPL and it's shareholders for their brilliant financial engineering and revenues.

Disclosure: I opened a short position at market open today.

Angry shareholders demanding APPL start spending cash. Acquisitions? BlackBerry would be seen as an outside shot, but with BlackBerry 's diversification, IOT, EOT, smart cars, etc., they could be a good target.

Not to say that I disagree, but can you break it down a little further than that? what BB-technologies do you think Apple should buy BB for >5 billion?

just some quick thoughts, grouped into the three operating segments BB has put in place:

    BlackBerry Technology Services (BTS):
BBM -> nope, they got iMessage.
EMM -> nope, Apple is a hardware company, and looks to strengthen it's own ecosystem.
IOT / EOT -> nah.. (we'll might see an connected home play this summer. (just a guess))
QNX -> perhaps (BB bought it for USD200 mill)

Mobility Services -> licensing BB-brand to make hardware.. think that another no for Apple.

    SAF -> no.

and that said, it might still might make strategic sense, but that would imply that BB is on it's way to either becoming a market leader in a vast market or have a key technology that Apple could use to get them there. if else, Apple would have to keep BlackBerry's horizontal business model to not dilute value.

OT for the Security crowd who don't believe that all is limited to tin-foil material out there:

Hundreds of privacy-invading apps are using ultrasonic sounds to track you | ZDNet
“Apps with access to your phone's microphone can pick up these tones and build up a profile about what you've seen, where, and in some cases even the websites you've visited. The technology is still in its infancy, but it's growing in popularity. In the past year, researchers found 234 Android apps that include the ability to listen for ultrasonic tones "without the user's knowledge," one paper said. The researchers note that some apps use the beacons to display location-specific advertising content on user's phones, like tickets and vouchers for festivals. Several stores in two unnamed European cities have already installed these ultrasonic beacons. The ultrasonic tones can also be used to track locations, behavior, and purchase habits across different devices, which allows the advertiser to serve more specific and tailored advertisements based on where you've been. Worse of all, the researchers say that this ultrasonic tracking technology can de-anonymize users of bitcoin, which is designed to be used without the need for a name. How big of an issue is it? For one, it's not immediately known if an app contains this ad-tracking technology -- but if it asks for your microphone, that might be a dead giveaway.
It's not as easy to know if an app has the ultrasonic technology built-in, but it's always wise to check your app permissions. If there's no reason for an app, like a game or a news app, to have access to your microphone, switch it off.

Here is my ongoing 3-minute chart for BBRY:

The BBRY Café. [Formerly: I support BBRY and I buy shares]-ice_screenshot_20170504-125037.jpg

Just to explain what you are seeing here, we officially went into a correction at the end of the day on Monday. Since then, we have rallied each morning to try and reverse the down sloping channel that we are in. Each time (those three egg shaped circles) we pop out, we are met with TA selling and driven right back inside the channel. We drop to the bottom of this channel and form a base to rally from the rest of the day. We will continue to do this until that pop sticks and we rally again. We are slightly over-bought still but not enough to drive the stock price down. There is always excellent support at the lows of the day.

So follow this chart each day and we will see how we resolve the trade. I suspect, as long as the DOW Jones doesn't sell off, we will close near even again, say $ 9.24/shr. The volume had to drop back down to reasonable levels. When the stock approaches $ 9.20/shr the "bids" cover the "asks" by 10:1 ratio so you know some money is watching this stock carefully and buying up shares. It could be a simple case of shorts covering, they put a cap on the upside and buy offerings that come in.

Update: A close above $ 9.25/shr today is a breakout. It would be nice if the stock corrected and no one even noticed. LOL

Wouldn't be surprised if BlackBerry has set a precedent for cases against Qualcomm with regards to overpaying for the use of their patents. I mean, who keeps 815 million in overpaid fees from a small company like BlackBerry, and then decides to wait it out until they're eventually forced to reimburse almost a billion? Sounds like an f'ed up mentality..

    OT: Qualcomm and Apple
From yesterday's Q2 2017 Apple Inc Earnings Call

A.M. Sacconaghi, Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., LLC., Research Division - Senior Analyst
I have two as well. First, Tim, I'm wondering if you can comment on your recent decision and the rationale for withholding royalty payments to Qualcomm. And really specifically, I wonder what you believe is the risk that Qualcomm could have a detrimental response such as withholding modem chip sales or potentially even getting an injunction on iPhones in select geographies around the world. And I'd like to understand your perspective on whether either of those are real risks to any degree and why would Apple potentially take on those risks just in advance of what will arguably be your most significant and largest product launch in history.

Timothy D. Cook, Apple Inc. - CEO and Director
The -- anyone that has a standards-essential patent has a responsibility to offer it to everyone that would like it under what is -- are called FRAND terms. FRAND stands for fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms. That's both the price and the business terms. Qualcomm has not made such an offer to Apple, and so I don't believe that a -- I don't believe anyone's going to decide to enjoin the iPhone based on that. I think that there's plenty of case law around that subject. But we shall see. In terms of why we're withholding royalties, you can't pay something when there's a dispute about the amount. You don't know how much to pay. And so they think we owe some amount. We think we owe a different amount. And there hasn't been a meeting of the minds there, and so at this point, we need the courts to decide that unless we are able to, over time, settle between us on some amount. But right now we're depending upon the courts to do that, and so that is the thinking. The reason that we're pursuing this is that Qualcomm's trying to charge Apple a percentage of the total iPhone value, and they do some really great work around standards-essential patents, but it's one small part of what an iPhone is. It's not -- it has nothing to do with the display or the Touch ID or a gazillion other innovations that Apple has done. And so we don't think that's right. And so we're taking a principled stand on it, and we strongly believe we're in the right. And I'm sure they believe that they are, and that's what courts are for. And we'll let it go with that.

Nokia, BlackBerry to mark return with Rs 200-crore bets - The Economic Times

The BlackBerry brand licence owner in India, Optiemus Group, will spend Rs200 crore to relaunch the brand and will initially target enterprise customers and selling through retail chains before expanding penetration in the market, said chairman Ashok Gupta. The company will launch one model at sub-Rs40,000 next month and another at sub-Rs20,000 in July, he said.

Gupta said the company will launch BlackBerry through 4,000 retailers which includes the retail chains and even the premium neighbourhood stores. “We are expecting Rs2,000 crore sales in this fiscal,” he said.
    FYI:
2000 crores (or 200000 lakhs) is equal to 20000 million (20 billion). 20,000,000,000 INR is equal to 311,774,151 USD @ 64.15 Indian rupees to 1 US dollar.

    Rs40,000 = +/- USD 622
    Rs20,000 = +/- USD 311

BTW, their fiscal year starts on April 1st.

Right on once again, Sir! Hit the nail on the head with a $9.25 close yesterday. Now we are resolving to the upside with a breakout and new 52 week high. It's amazing to see this stock perform the way it's supposed to.

PS - Nice pop with PSDV today. Their ER didn't have anything new other than restating that they are maintaining the course to for upcoming clinical results and milestones. Looking good all around!

Thought I would post my 3-minute chart on BBRY right now as we approach a 16 month high in the stock. I should point out that we are setup for a major rally if the stock can take out the old 2015, end of December, highs of $ 9.45/shr:

The BBRY Café. [Formerly: I support BBRY and I buy shares]-ice_screenshot_20170505-104451.jpg

So what happened, we rallied toward the end of the day yesterday, breaking out of the weekly downtrending channel. That marked the end of the correction for BBRY and now we are ready to rally again. We are doing this with the RSI slightly over-bought which shows you the strength of the play right now. At the end of the day, the stock saw 50,000 share bids come in suggesting that the breakout was real and set to resume on Friday. Thank goodness the DOW Jones held up!

We can make a 52 week high today but it is really making a 16 month high isn't it? As for $ 9.45/shr, it has to be tested on this rally now. The Bollinger Bands are set to see us move to $ 10.00 plus now so it is just the RSI that is the black cloud on a fantastic rally. Shorts are in a a whole lot of trouble here. Just follow the chart and enjoy the ride.

Thanks but I really think we are finally seeing the stock perform like it should without the manipulation build into it. Guys like me can forecast the movement with TA as it is 100% driven by TA now. We haven't been able to do that for several years with the short position in play. Let's enjoy it as it unfolds and see if we can take out the $ 9.45/shr level on a closing basis. We could see it rip to $ 10.00/shr plus if that number falls here. New money will keep coming into the trade and shorts will capitulate on mounting losses. TA specialists are all calling for a "short on BBRY at the $ 9.45/shr level" and so a move above that level causes a complete reversal in the TA call.

As for PDSV, its a slow recovery but I do think they will get bought out so I'll forget about it for another year. I don't want to see SPHS going up though, it would assure my wife of a victory in our bet and that is awkward to say the least. We have a long standing deal together so that she will let me keep her fully invested in the stock market. If she has a losing trade, I cover her loss, if she makes money on a trade she keeps the money. If the stock continues to go up after I sell her out, she gets my shares or the cash equivalent so I can't make a mistake! Using these rules, she has enjoyed huge gains for years now, something she would have avoided at all cost in the past.

Come on BBRY, let's challenge for $ 9.45/shr today. GL
