In an agreement announced today, BlackBerry will dedicate a team of engineers to work with Ford on expanding the use of the QNX Neutrino operating system, Certicom security technology, the QNX hypervisor, and QNX audio-processing software in developing the next generation of connected cars.

I suspect BlackBerry Android is using QNX hypervisor.

J.P. Morgan Withheld Payment From Tech Client, Lawsuit Alleges - NASDAQ.com
J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. allegedly withheld a $12 million payment to Good Technology Inc. last year, worsening a cash shortage that forced the mobile-security company into a sale brokered by the bank. The plaintiffs, which include Good's former CEO, have previously argued that J.P. Morgan allowed Good Technology to be sold for relatively little because the bank hoped to win future business from BlackBerry. The complaint alleges that J.P. Morgan delayed paying its bill, "accelerating the crash crunch that J.P. Morgan was supposed to address as financial adviser." In July 2015, Mr. Fior emailed Good Technology CEO Christy Wyatt a presentation showing that Good would run out of cash by August or September, depending on when J.P. Morgan made its payment, according to the complaint. Good Technology and BlackBerry announced their deal in Sept. 2015.

Ford deal is a huge win for BlackBerry - CNBC

The Ford deal is all part of BlackBerry CEO John Chen strategy to move the company away from its iconic handset business and toward being an enterprise-software company. Chen deserves credit for his attempt at transitioning Blackberry away from legacy offerings. The fact that the company is still in business and pushing forward into new spaces speaks volumes about the determination of management to remake the company for a new path forward. This announcement is a major step forward in that transition.

At the same time OT from Related Technologies file, competition has its effects:

Apple enters correction territory as stocks slide
Falling as low as $110.53 a share, Apple was, at one point, down more than 10 percent from its last 52-week high of $123.82 on Nov. 4, 2015. A 10 percent downward move from the last 52-week high is known as a "correction." Apple's shares have fallen almost 6 percent over the past week, after the company reported the third straight quarter of year-over-year revenue declines. The iPhone maker also revealed new MacBook Pro computers last week. The new wares have yet to hit the market, but are already drawing skeptical comparisons to rival Microsoft. Apple's overall retention rate fell to 75 percent in September, Milunovich wrote, compared to 81 percent last March and 82 percent last September.

You do have news, its in the form of a nervous market. The bids on all stocks are dropping off until this crazy election is over. I have never seen/heard of such a mess in a civilized country as this. With trillions of dollars at stake, biotech (See the IBB Index) as well as all others are cratering right now. I'm a buyer of PSDV at the moment but on daily basis and not large amounts as the story hasn't changed at all. As for SPHS, same thing, love it, nothing has changed at all, just the market itself.

Even BlackBerry is down and holding at RSI=30 while we wait for the general market to find a base. The latest news is excellent and we have more coming from India soon. Again it isn't the individual stocks that are the problem, its the election causing support or bids to dry up here. The volumes are light, nothing is moving and this won't change until we get some clarity. The market tends to correct every Fall giving us a buying op of sorts, we are really just going through that phase right now. BBRY is holding up nicely and that's all that matters to me right now, a bit of buying and then I find something else to do with my time until things become clearer. GL

With the BlackBerry deal Ford is looking to be both an auto and mobililty company:

Enhanced use of the software will allow Ford to choose from a variety of options to improve its cars. For instance, it could further personalize them, allowing drivers to customize what they see in the instrument cluster or how they go about choosing their music, Wall says.

"It will allow them to be the master of their domain when it comes to adding features," Wall says. Ford will have "more control over the features."

It will also provide more security at a time when worries abound about the possibility that in-car communications systems are susceptible to hacking. Automakers are working to shut out hackers, who they fear could take over systems tied to the car's computers like steering or braking, and possibly deliberately cause a crash.

Ford said it sees the alliance as a step forward in its goal of distinguishing itself when it comes to connectivity.

As Ford expands its business to be both an auto and mobility company, we will expand our software development to support the connected car experience,"

Tracking Kahn Brothers' Portfolio - Q3 2016 Update | Seeking Alpha

BlackBerry Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY): BBRY was a very small ~0.5% of the US long portfolio position established in Q3 2013 at prices between $8 and $10.84. Q2 2014 saw a 270% stake increase at prices between $7.15 and $10.12. The five quarters through Q1 2016 saw the position more than doubled at prices between $6 and $11. There was another ~40% increase last quarter at prices between $6.29 and $8.09. The position is currently at 6.28% of the US long portfolio, and the stock is at $7.07. This quarter also saw a ~8% further increase. The consistent buying pattern indicates a clear bullish bias.

I have no idea why BlackBerry is down. But purchased 3 dtek50. Great phone. Great day time screen. Even better than dtek60. Dtek60 is better for night time. Showed my dtek60 to many Samsung and iPhone users they are all impressed they all asked where they can buy. Only if BlackBerry can have these available with Canadian carriers. And some advertising. Fingers crossed.

Limited revenue from QNX set to grow dramatically.

While QNX enjoys wide deployment in the automotive market, monetization has been weak. IHS analysts previously estimated QNX licensing fees at a relatively paltry $3 per vehicle. Moreover, the overall QNX business is estimated to account for just about 2% of BlackBerrys overall revenue. This is because the QNX OS and middleware largely operate behind the scenes, with the real value and differentiation coming from the applications and user interfaces that OEMs build on top of these systems. However, with the Ford deal, BlackBerry will dedicate a team of engineers to help Ford incorporate its software into new vehicles. This could allow BlackBerry to capture more value from the overall connected car value-chain, beyond just OS and middleware licencing.
