Please, BlackBerry, if you are reading this: offer 'White' or 'Red' color variant too.

Ron showed-off white variant @ MWC, so I had really hoped both color variants were going to be offered at launch.

More for amusement than any value:

Globe says BlackBerry looking ripe for a downturn

    2015-10-23 07:38 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that academic studies show that short interest in a company's stock can be a better predictor of price trends than the recommendations of equity analysts. The Globe's guest columnist Larry MacDonald writes that the Toronto Stock Exchange posted its short-interest tables for Oct. 15 on Wednesday. BlackBerry ($9.38) had the fifth-largest increase in short selling on the TSX during the first two weeks of October, a rise of 2.3 million to 18.2 million shares. However, short interest in the United States fell by four million (in the last two weeks of September). That leaves 87.7 million shares short in the United States., or more than 100 million (estimated) if Canadian shorts are included. This latter position is close to 18 per cent of the stock float, which Mr. MacDonald makes a point of saying that is "a rather high level of bearishness." RBC Dominion Securities analyst Mark Sue reiterated his "sector perform" rating on BlackBerry in The Globe on Sept. 29. The shares could then be had for $8.43.

I'm looking at this in a different way, keep BB 10 for those of us who don't need Android and start offering a Z30 with the Android package. It would take them no time to produce some Android phones based on what we have now. I could buy a Z30 in BB 10 or Android tomorrow as they have all of their ducks in a row now. The cost to add a Z30 "type of" phone into the mix would be nothing.

Remember when Heins started dumping Z10's into the market, we must have had a couple of million of them. Today, leftover Z30's are now Android phones!
That's definitely a good idea to use existing form factors -- since I'd imagine R&D expenses would be minimal. The angle I was approaching from though is sort of from a historical context though -- what if. BBJDOG indicated 75% of apps wouldn't work -- this is true, but my contention is that IOS and Android didn't start out with millions of apps over night. They created an ecosystem and enticed consumers to use their devices, which in turn brought more developers to the platforms (go where the userbase is -- which BlackBerry is finally doing now). However, if BlackBerry can find a way to make it a compelling offer to license it's OS to other hardware makers, and they see value in the platform, then BB10 would ultimately attain apps as well, if more consumers thought it offered unique advantages as an OS.

If you truly want to be primarily a software company, then you have to find a way to get your software to the masses -- and software as good and reliable as BB10 deserves to shine IMO. I find so much long term potential w/ BlackBerry but they have to find ways to effectively utilize their assets. Think of how they license out QNX to auto makers for the infotainment systems. Yes, they may not make a lot of money on it, but if they did the same for BB10, some money is better than none. I would probably license the software out for manufacturers to make entry price phones, in order to make it affordable and establish a strong userbase, and once that base is established, developers will come to the platform and I'd keep BlackBerry as the premium manufacture for their premium bb10 based phones -- like Googles' Nexus.

*edit* having your own OS should be such a valuable asset. Imagine how much R&D has gone into that over the years -- they need to find a way to leverage that asset to their advantage, and stockholders. I don't think regulated industries alone is going to cut it, which is why they are adding Android for the masses. They need to make BB10 for the masses or at least still work towards that goal, even if at a modest pace. I'm just saying they shouldn't give up the fight.

Until now, I had always assumed that BlackBerry would need to sell 5 million PRIV devices in order to be profitable.. but, it seems the 5 million is for their entire hardware division.. JC also claimed that BB10 sales are 'very stable'.. so, new info to me, but probably not for most of you

I keep reading that the PKB is a very niche feature as everyone has been using VKB for 5 years.

But I keep hearing from women that they are looking forward to the Priv for the PKB, they hate typing on a touchscreen. And they never knew that Blackberry had a phone with a browser running with post 1995 speeds.

I think with solid reviews, this could be a much bigger 'wanted feature' than many people expect. And there is only one choice of device for it.
