FWIW, that "Introducing PRIV" video has gotten close to 170,000 views (and very posiitve comments) in the 20 hours since it was launched. That is considerably more than for any other similar recent device related videos.

Most android sites comments are fine or even encouraging. It is the CB site that has most BlackBerry hate displayed. Still lots of positive people on CB as well. May be haters are worried that soon BlackBerry will have something which can change things for BlackBerry thus attacks while you can. Some one started a thread based on one comment on reddit that JC has only ordered 500K priv units and for second batch, it is 22 weeks wait time. Lots of people are working hard to make that 22 weeks lead time true. Based on one reddit comment. 22 weeks 5 months. Ans every one is giving examples of how JC doesn't wanna produce hardware etc.

I stand by my opinion that the announced price is not competitive, at least from this reseller. For the US readers, consider that basic currency exchange rate makes it equivalent to about $750 before sales tax. I have seen members indicate that they would consider $500 to be an acceptable price... I don't remember noticing any suggesting $600. This is 50% above the consensus price level.

Now... about the personal jabs... I'm in the fortunate position of being able to take my own remedial action rather than reporting and waiting for a moderator to review. Company performance, products, services, and stock trading from here on, or it may be the last post you will ever make at CrackBerry.
Is that a threat that you just made to the CB members? Because if it is, then I believe that you have crossed a line my friend! Bad move!

Ya I mean those numbers are so absurd, they don't really merit a counter argument. I wouldn't be shocked if Chen & Co are cautious as they have been in the past, but those numbers are just plain silly. Certainly is refreshing to see the optimism and interest surrounding the PRIV on other sites - unprecedented for BB imo. Looking forward to official launch to see if they have any tricks up their sleeve. For the specs on this thing, I don't really see how people are expecting mid-tier pricing. I'm not saying it wouldn't help sales, but this is about profit margins and maintaining or re-establishing a hi-end hardware brand in big markets.

Could this possibly affect the image, and thus, the share price of BlackBerry?

""Tone at the top" is a term that originated in the field of accounting and is used to describe an organization's general ethical climate, as established by its board of directors, audit committee, and senior management. Having a tone at the top is believed by business ethics experts to help prevent fraud and other unethical practices."

"Howard started off with trying to define tone at the top. Many people just default to the Justice Potter Stewarts take on pornography: We know it when we see it. Howard likes the ACFE definition:

An organizations leadership creates the tone at the top an ethical (or unethical) atmosphere in the workplace. Managements tone has a trickle-down effect on employees. If top managers uphold ethics and integrity so will employees. But if upper management appears unconcerned with ethics and focuses solely on the bottom line, employees will be more prone to commit fraud and feel that ethical conduct isnt a priority. In short, employees will follow the examples of their bosses.

Howard offered up his working definition for the presentation:

Tone at the top is a visible willingness by senior management to let values drive decisions to prioritize those values above other factors including financial results and to expect all others in the organization to do the same."

I remember when I started on CB I read that negative comments were posted by licensed employees. Is it possible that *the recent job cuts are fueling this negativity ? *I mean CB is a great place to vent their sentiments!*

    Explain the comment above please.

Business buyers don't care, personal buyers at least in the younger age range often care greatly to avoid being out of sync with their peer group. Business sellers *should* care about the potential impact on sales, or they are not acting in the best interest of the company and stockholders
Agree with this. Teens get whatever is cool. That is iphone or s6. Thing is Teens also want to be different to be cool. If the cool cats at school start rocking a Priv because it's different and they can still instagram and fb, it could become a 3rd device. Unlikely...after the Priv is out a few months I'll poll my nieces and see if it is anywhere to be seen in high schools.

Maybe they were confident enough to put in an order for 300K to get exclusivity. Or the carriers were trying to low ball the price point to take it on.

We know JC wants to sell 5M units. So that is bs. I can't see them having less than a 1M run to global launch and a second batch work order in the queue depending on presale numbers.

The true rumor in the eyes of the experts is that no one else/carriers want to stock blackberry phones. thats why Carphone just got stuck with blackberry.
may they have large international buyers (London travelers) ? who supply to people all over the world, the latest gadgets? people with money but they want the latest, regardless of the price.

    Well now, this is interesting.

Obviously they don't know what they are talking about, as they actually use facts and figures! Not gossip, heresay, etc.

    The priv WON'T cost 580!

    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...580-a-1043141/

"... Well, it will cost 580, but only if you want to be ripped of by Carphone

To sum it up, Carphone Warehouse rips people off... let's have a look at their prices

Galaxy S6 Edge (the Small one):
32GB - 529 - You don't want this one because unlike the priv, you don't have SD-card Slot
64GB - 599 - Already more expensive than the priv, and funny that the S6 (non-edge) costs the same even if it should be a lot cheaper...
    128GB - 789 - Ouch!!!

Now what you can get on Ebay.co.uk including shipping (only from stores with normal warranty):
    32GB - 417
    64GB - 460
    128GB - 570 - more than 200 LESS than Carphone... Ouch!!

But then you say... yeah, but the S6 Edge is not a bit old, prices drop, etc, etc...
I say... damn, you're right... oh wait... Lets see the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (the big one) that wen't on sale aprox. 1 month ago.

So... Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on Carphone:
32GB - 579 - Oh dear, same as the Priv and no Sd-card slot
    64GB - 649 - that's expensive
128GB - they don't sell, I guess the computers won't allow them to list prices over 1000 do they didn't bother...

    Ebay.co.Uk (again, only stores):
    32GB - 475 - 104 LESS than Carphone!
64GB - 700 - This one is actually more expensive, there are only a few on sale.

So ladys and gentleman, look around, you don't have to overpay for the Priv! Have a look because I'm sure there will be a TON of cheaper places to buy."

200k views in 24 hours on that PRIV video? Wow, it should rack up 1 000 000 views in a week. I can't remember the last time a BlackBerry related video had this much attention. Did the Z10/Q10 rack up that many views? Judging by the overall response that the PRIV has received overall, I really believe that BlackBerry have a sleeper hit on their hands. They don't have to push 13m devices in a weekend, but if they push just 1.3m in a 3 month period including a few hundred thousand BB10 devices? say no more....

Ofcourse, I'm just very optimistic, but unless anyone can tell me why they can't do 1.3m in a quarter, let me know..

Update: In other words, I don't see BlackBerry reporting sales of anything less than 800,000 and that 5m one year target is attainable.

Prices will almost certainly adjust when second line sellers get stock into the pipeline and competiton develops. That could be good or bad depending how you look at it. A price drop is good for buyers but a smaller contribution back up the chain. An expected / predictable price cut is bad for early sales with some buyers waiting for the discounts.
