Happy Easter weekend to my Canadian and American friends!...

... not shaken at all by last week's stock action (manipulation). Confidence in CEO Chen has not changed.. the Blackberry ship is slowly still headed in the right direction and patience will be rewarded!! Look for more shrewd moves and possible acquisitions to complement Blackberry's growth vision..... a year from now, I don't think we will be talking about a $9 stock....

A perfect setup for next week indeed. BBRY has been trending upwards in the last few trading days so maintaining that momentum into the close by settling around $9.05 is only going to push the activity upwards come next week. The upside at this point far outweighs the downside. I see first level of resistance next week at mid-$9's so if we can reach that from its dastardly low of $8.60 earlier this week, I can definitely see BBRY making a move towards second level of resistance in the high-$9's. Ultimately, I'd like to see it trading back in the low $10's and I'd be satisfied with sideways movements in that range until John Chen's next blockbuster announcement.

Don't recall if the UBS article was posted already....

BlackBerry Ltd Assigned Neutral Rating By UBS

BlackBerry has been experiencing declining revenues but was able to post a small operational profit

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)s performance can be tagged as laudable from an operational expenditure point of view even though revenue fell in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015, according to UBS AG (NYSE:UBS) analyst Amitabh Passi. In a report released on Sunday, Passi assigned a Neutral rating to the stock with a 12-month price target of $10. The consensus 12-month target for BlackBerry is $9.22 per share.

    Software sales showing revival signs

According to Passi, revenue at Blackberry continued to show a downward trend with a drop of 32% year over year in the 4QFY15 against the 34% decline in the 3QFY15 and 64% drop in the 4QFY14. Passi mentioned in a note on Sunday that the company posted an operating profit of $2 million during the quarter in the wake of operational expenditure rationalization efforts taken by the Canadian company.

Also software sales showed significance signs of revival in the fourth quarter, rising to $67 million from $56 in the corresponding quarter last year, but BlackBerry has still a long way away to reach its software sales goal of $600 million, believes the analyst. Passi noted that there are only a few takers of the companys newly launched interface, BlackBerry Enterprise Software 12 (BES12), and BlackBerry value-added services.

    Cautiously optimistic on BlackBerry

The UBS analyst is, however, keeping a close but skeptical watch on the company, taking note of its cost-cutting strategy and cash flow generation capabilities. Investors do not have clarity about the companys ability to hit its target, even when cost-cutting and cash flows are acting as crucial supports for BlackBerrys business as of now.

The cash flow of the company has remained stable on the back of operational profit generation of $210 million in the fourth quarter. BlackBerry now stands a chance to initiate more acquisitions and also achieve its $600 million software sales goal, says a report from Bidness Etc. The Canadian smartphone maker has scaled down its purchase order commitments to contract manufacturers from $565 million in the 4QFY14 to $394 million in the 4QFY15. This will bring down the inventory risk for BlackBerry, says the report.

I'm glad you asked for that chart, it gives me a chance to show everyone that the CDN chart is not workable for TA purposes. The US chart is free of the fluctuation in currencies, as you can plainly see, the CDN chart paints a rosy picture of a great investment that is trading higher in value over the past 10 months.

    Attachment 345172

If you own BBRY, you know that this stock has not been trading in an up-sloping channel over the past 10 months. The currency is at play here to save holders of the CDN stock, BB.TO, and if and when the Canadian dollar begins to firm again, Canadian investors will feel the pain of watching the US stock climb higher while their investment in Canada does nothing. For a chartist, you want to chart the stock in the currency that does not fluctuate and that only leaves you with the US version, BBRY. In fact, the CDN dollar has distorted the Canadian chart so much that I can't even define the trading pattern now.

So watch out for a rally in BlackBerry that coincides with a rally in the CDN dollar as you won't be participating to the same degree as your American counterpart. A quick example, say BBRY is trading at $ 10.00 and the currency conversion is $ 1.10 CDN needed for one US dollar. The CDN price of the stock, or BB.TO would be $ 11.00/shr/CDN. Now if the CDN dollar goes to par, then the CDN price would simply be $ 10.00 CDN or $ 10.00 US, both are the same here. So as an investor who owns Canadian BlackBerry, you lose out when the US dollar weakens to the Canadian dollar.
That is if you believe you will see a strong Canadian dollar anytime soon. I for one don't and can see it to continue to fall. Canadian dollar goes hand in end with the price of oil. So if you think oil will be weak for the coming time then so will the Canadian dollar.
This only impacts the SP. Excluding the banks cut for forex fee, it works out the same in your pocket $ after currency exchange

    Posted via CB10
Morgan - that's super insightful, thank you! I understand in terms of TA, an external variable affecting the price movements kills your models and tests. It would be cool to see if BB perfectly replicates BBRY if you account precisely for the exchange fluctuation.

In that sense, spiller you're right that if you are getting out and taking $, your CAD retains the same value as the USD at that same time/exchange rate.

And yeah, I agree... the Canadian dollar is unlikely to strengthen too much on the USD for some time to come.

    Happy holidays and weekend folks!

Yesterdays news on a tomorrow thread!
    Interesting email scam.

    By Bill Rigby

SEATTLE (Reuters) - IBM has uncovered a sophisticated fraud scheme run by a well- funded Eastern European gang of cyber criminals that uses a combination of phishing, malware and phone calls that the technology company says has netted more than $1 million from large and medium-sized U.S. companies.

The scheme, which IBM security researchers have dubbed "The Dyre Wolf," is small in comparison with more recent widespread online fraud schemes but represents a new level of sophistication.

According to IBM, since last year the attackers have been targeting people working in companies by sending spam email with unsafe attachments to get a variant of the malware known as Dyre into as many computers as possible.

If installed, the malware waits until it recognizes that the user is navigating to a bank website and instantly creates a fake screen telling the user that the bank's site is having problems and to call a certain number.

If users call that number, they get through to an English-speaking operator who already knows what bank the users think they are contacting. The operator then elicits the users' banking details and immediately starts a large wire transfer to take money out of the relevant account.

The use of a live phone operator is what makes the scheme unique, said Caleb Barlow, vice president of IBM Security.

"What's very different in this case, is we saw a pivot of the attackers to use a set of social engineering techniques that I think are unprecedented," said Barlow. "The focus on wire transfers of large sums of money really got our attention."

IBM did not release any details on which companies fell prey to the scheme or the location of the perpetrators.

Once the transfer is complete, the money is then quickly moved from bank to bank to evade detection. In one instance, IBM said, the gang hit the victim company with a denial of service attack - essentially bringing down their Web capabilities - so it would not discover the theft until much later.

International Business Machines Corp's security unit is recommending that companies make sure employees are trained in spotting phishing attacks - where emails or attachments can infect a computer - and to never provide banking credentials to anyone.

The unit published a blog on the issue on its site at The Dyre Wolf Campaign Stealing Millions and Hungry for More.

    (answers my own question though)

Software side of BlackBerry made up 10% of the overall quarterly profits, with $67 million (a 24% increase over the previous quarter).

This was helped by garnering 2,200 new customers, which includes:

     Delta Airlines
     First Great Western trains
     Dignity Health
     Tarpon Energy Services
     The Government of Canada
     Social Services Administration of Colombia
     Australian Transport Safety Bureau
Essar Group (one of the largest conglomerates in India)
     Sonora Quest Labs
     Kyocera Mita
     IMS Health

Additionally, BlackBerry had customer wins from SAIC, HSBC, Citizens Property Insurance, ERGO Insurance Group, Credito Familiar and the United States Governments Internal Revenue Service.

This is yet another great post by Karl "Tickerguy" on BlackBerry 10 and specifically the cloud BES12. I believe he makes one valid point about this great offer that when it gets addressed many of us running small companies and even individuals would be able to actually use it.

"BB10 devices expect all work email and calendar connections to be on Exchange ActiveSync or IBM Notes Traveller"

Not allowing IMAP to be a work-related email connection and therefore excluding it from S/MIME and PGP, is preventing me from signing up for this service.

    Chrys,

You are indeed a die-hard and truly devoted BlackBerry supporter. It really is a breath of fresh air seeing you here and reading your posts (and often reading what you're really trying to say). I know you've lost some serious cash before and you're being extremely cautious today, and that is expected and revered. Not that it matters much, but I'm also an investor and am struggling with this stock. That being said, I highly doubt anybody here is in total control with how they feel about their BBRY investment at any level until we see another few ERs at the least. The old motto stands true my long time friend....invest, but enjoy the investment...talk with us and vent with us...just don't put yourself out there too far until we get these damn analysts off our backs. Lol. I understand your excitement with this brand and products..i am myself a devoted religiously devoted BlackBerry supporter and KNOW for a fact the software portion is going to cannon ball this company into the next melinnium. How long will this take??? Maybe several years... so, think about going slow as the company grows again and investing slowly as you and your family can afford. BlackBerry is not going to go from 9 to 100 overnight. You have time my friend. Please enjoy the weekend and if you ever need to reach out and vent or ask a question, nobody will ignore you. There are some really really smart people on this thread and ALL of them will answer any questions you may have. That's why I love this place and those that support BlackBerry.

If you love your BlackBerry you need to separate that from your investment. Too often we see those who are invested in BBRY get down and depressed about their BlackBerry devices when the share price falters.

If you love your BlackBerry device then separate that from your investment in BBRY. BBRY is just another means of making money and treat it as such.

Officially Announces the Slider, the spawn of Torch 9810 and Passport.
New Marketing and Partnership focus to strengthen the 'brand name recognition' amongst the competition
    * New cars, and other endpoints (all connected devices) using QNX core technology will have the brand or co-brand slogan,
"Your Car ... Connected by BlackBerry / Connected by QNX a BlackBerry company".
    (replace car with device name)
    * New devices connected via BES12 and partnerships marketed with enterprises and partners will have ...
"Your corporate communications ... secured and managed by BlackBerry".
    * SecuSmart will proceed their existing business for the next 2 years before being fully inter branded with BlackBerry. This current initiative strengthening brand name recognition, not simply enhancing it as a reminder will allow for broad acceptance ballyhoo'd.
