Decreases in hardware were indicated from a number of sources... so with a decrease in hardware sales, you should assume that revenues would also go down. If you did some poking around this shouldn't have been too much of a surprise.

But this could all go away next quarter with the Classic.... so there is no need to panic.

I would go get a coffee or look at some soft porn for at least 10 more minutes here as the stock usually revisits its low which is $ 9.10/shr at the moment. It's hard to know how they will push the stock at the beginning because they have a built in profit on these trades. After they see no follow through, they cover. I'm watching for a retest here. If after 10 minutes and it is stable you can look at a trade. GL
Thanks, Morgan. I'm in. Just a few more dollars playing some options.

GL to ALL. I'm looking for $10 by end of next Tuesday. (My options are much farther out, but that's my recovery guesstimate).

EDIT: hope this post doesn't trigger a drop! Let's do some covering!

So during the call I hear Chen say something about Boeing partnering with Blackberry. The message is scripted and Chen indicates he can't say more. I wonder if its on the black smartphone Boeing: Boeing Black Smartphone

    Hi Brianflys !!

Ha! I'm trying to reverse some of the doom and gloom around here as those numbers are really solid despite the reported revenues/handset numbers. Others have actually nailed it here, less than 200,000 passports made it into customers (end user recognition accounting) hands in Q3, as sad of an execution as that is, we can look forward to some solid numbers next quarter. The webcast is chock full of information about the business model for BlackBerry. I really like where they are transitioning in their software model and Chen was very open about the prospects for next year. It takes time for analysts to sit through that meeting and then crunch those numbers for the next 12 months, finally reporting to us and their client base. The client base isn't buying the stock at the open, this is MM and trader activity here. Clients come into the trade a day or two later so let's hear from the analysts.

Would I do at this time is watch the bid/ask ratio and the trades down here to see if this wholesale dumping of stock or traders taking both sides of the trade. So far, this has been pure trading and it could last for another 1/2 hour. At some point I expect the stock to pop.

This is a good article, shows the bullet points if you missed the conference call:

BRIEF-BlackBerry CEO says not satisfied with revenue
    Thanks!

    Worth laying out. Good summary:

    * CEO John Chen says continues to expect to turn profitable in fiscal 2016

    * CEO John Chen Says revenue number this quarter is not satisfying

    * Blackberry's Chen says expects average selling price of hardware should tick higher with new lineup

    * Blackberry's Chen says old device inventory is down 93 percent year-over-year

    * Blackberry's Chen says orders for new 'Classic' device ahead of where 'Passport' was at launch

    * CEO says was only able to fulfill certain hardware orders after end of Q3, noting this led to weak hardware revs in Q3

    * CEO says "it is my belief we can stabilize and grow our revenues in fiscal year 2016"

    * Blackberry's Chen says has a "pretty strong" device road map, will discuss at conference in March

    * Blackberry's Chief Financial Officer James Yersh says average selling price for devices was roughly $180, expects this to rise with new devices

    * CFO Yersh says hardware gross margins were positive for second straight quarter, models high 40 percent range in next couple of quarters

    * CEO John Chen says still expects to double software revenue next year, looking for monetization to kick in around second quarter

    * Blackberry's Chen says cannot promise profitability over whole of fiscal 2016, will depend on how quickly company's quarterly bottom line improves

    * CFO Yersh says don't expect a significant decline in operating expenses from current level

    Up, up, up!

I can draw from the positives in today's numbers, but I think that there is no way we are deserving of gains today.

I mean, I'll take them if they come, but BlackBerry messed up with the Passport channelling and the numbers reflect that.

This is it folks, we are smack in the middle phase of the turn around.

To get into metaphors, this is a big ship and it takes a lot of effort to turn it around. Chen has stemmed the losses, has pretty much broken even in revenue.

New revenue streams haven't been realized yet. The device lineup was stale but with the new devices starting to sell we should see improvements in coming quarters. QNX, BES12, BBM are all revenue streams that are barely blip in current quarter but will factor in huge next year.

Here's to a great 2015! This ship is definitely not sinking.

If they were unable to clear the Passport backlog in the two months of Q3 availability that suggests a little less than 100k units shipped per month.

All things being equal, and assuming the demand remains the same, say, 270,000 passport potential shipped in Q4?

Wow. This seemed like a pretty good quarterly report. Cash remained stable, small profit, new products coming and decent adoption rates for security and enterprise activities. I like the Classic as a phone that will sell in decent volume. By decent I mean like Windows phone volume. But that is good enough. The Sony hack has to have companies getting ready to double down on security and IT advisers will start suggesting Blackberry as a solution.
So I'm really eyeing this stock price as a buying opportunity. As long as the company is cash flow positive, then it will stay in business. As long as it stays in business it has a chance to explode as a security enterprise service company. And I think the Classic will fill a nitch. Remember the Q10 actually always sold a bit. It never really got marked down on Ebay. I suspect that the Classic will sell much better.
But really it will be security services that will be the future for this company. The Sony hack was ANOTHER wake up call for the Corporate world.

Hi Morgan +8! Thanks for the early analysis. To me the outlook is very positive, with profits now on low volume and a efforts started to grow, just not accounted for yet. Partnerships, strong security back end, and solid new devices with a disciplined plan looks like all the right moves going forward. You can't sell devices if people don't have confidence in the company. Small and profitable means a real future. Maybe Sony should switch to BlackBerry and BBM.

^ And now, you can stop refreshing the SP chart on Nasdaq.
    I'm leaving soon and will place a bet : we will finish over ... oh, my 8ball ... say ... maybe ... $9.38 ?
    (Ok I cheat, it's 200DMA).

Now, time for a gig with friends for a 50 anniversary (not mine ... yet), packing the sono and stuff ... warming up (cuba libre) ... should start in approx 5 hours from now. So ... easy peazy on the CB (here and the frink !).

    Have a great Friday guys.
I'm satisfied with these numbers, as M+8 said the D day is in February.

Finally, a tune for the road (live, of course) ?

If people are looking to buy this stock and get a good deal, this morning would be the ideal time (imo).

Can only get better from here if you listened to the report.

(the last ER report also hinted towards this transition phase)

I bet they are intentionally placing some of their PP revenues towards the next quarter Q1 until BES12 revenues get traction until Q2.

and of course, the upcoming announcements (Boeing, IoT, CES, BBM roadmap, MWC...)

Far more sold but only LESS than 200,000 recognised in the Q3 quarter. The majority of Passports are in the Q4 period.
This will depend if bbry deems the risks of the sale (Ie: likelihood of cash conversion) were transferred to the buyer during q3 or q4.

If you could order a Passport through Digital River and cancel before delivery then they wouldn't have recognized the sale until shipped (ie FOB shipping point)
