Watsa lines up $1 billion investment for India - The Times of India

Are you still excited about Blackberry?

For business, Blackberry is still very important. Just recently there was some news about President Obama and his Blackberry. Prime Minister Cameron says he can run his affair from wherever with Blackberry. Angela Merkel is a user. When you need security government all over the world use Blackberry. Businesses like banks use Blackberry. But your general everyday consumer typically is not going to use Blackberry. Blackberry is moving to professionals and focusing on corporate enterprise users. We have a very interesting guy John Chen. It's been one year now and he has done a phenomenal job. Blackberry passport has come out. Devices is only one part of the business. He's got Blackberry enterprise server, manages all your devices and he has Internet of things that he is developing. So, there lots of possibilities with the guy. A year ago there might have been some concerns over survival; today there are no concerns with $3 billion in cash in the company. He said he will break even within a quarter or two. I am very positive.

I appreciate that this review considers it from the perspective of its design requirements. It was created for taking care of business! I would have liked if it mentioned/described/video of the keyboard in action with some of the advanced interactions.

I read through all the comments as well and can see that it really connects with what many are looking for in a smart phone.

It launched 2 months ago, and is still a top 3 seller on amazon. It was #2 this morning.

    Passport:

And... it's the only phone on the list with a 5 star average.

Is it me or is the overall sentiment on BlackBerry becoming more and more positive as of late? After such a long period of skepticism, it's great to see BBRY and John Chen receive a nod every now and then.

I agree with you 100%, but that's why I trust Blackberry and QNX. That's the space John Chen is focusing on (IOT/Ion).
Blackberry/QNX must lead in this space, make right acquisition which they have done, and they must continue. Security plays a big part in my consumer behavior.
That's why I want the "connected car" feature to be 100% independent from the "device connected" ... guess what, it seems automakers agree with me and choose to deploy them as interface layers and not core OS. #QNX all the way.

Also, just have a look at this french ad and how they promote the key selling points in sequence :
    1/ design
    2/ UI
... this is (about to become) a massive concurrence advantage ... and I like it !

Rumour: Lenovo and Samsung competing for BlackBerry
Reportedly, two major players, Lenovo and Samsung, are in talks with BlackBerry regarding a possible acquisition.
Rumour has it that Samsung is currently in talks with Blackberry regarding a possible acquisition. The same applies to Lenovo who has also shown interest, according to a report in Benzinga, quoting sources familiar with the matter. The source would not go into details but said that Samsung is in a stronger position regarding the possible acquisition.

Blackberry has chosen not to comment as they are in a quiet period.

So hopefully our shares go up even more today!!!!

Anyone who has been following BlackBerry seriously would know better than to believe these rumours by now, but it's still a positive rumour that should drive the SP up a couple dollars.

Nothing really new, but some interesting tidbits on the recent BBRY-Samsung deal.
BlackBerry, Samsung deal one of a kind

BlackBerry is unlikely to follow up its surprise partnership deal with *Samsung with a raft of similar agreements with rival handset makers, *including Apple, as its top executives said they were not yet focused enough on business customers to make an alliance work.

John Sims, who runs the smartphone pioneer’s global enterprise and *messaging businesses, told The Australian Financial Review, the recently signed deal, where Samsung will sell its products to a huge potential number of customers, had been extremely hard fought, and would be even more difficult with other phonemakers.

Mr Sims, who joined BlackBerry at the beginning of the year as part of a major overhaul of the company’s leadership team, said the Samsung alliance had taken nine months to negotiate, with the Korean giant initially less than keen on the idea.

“It was pretty obvious to me right from the get go that if we could develop a *relationship with Samsung, it would be strategically important for us, and I thought it would deliver value for them as well,” Mr Sims said.

“I had my first conversation with them in February, and to describe the meeting as frosty would be a nice way of putting it, but we were persistent. To their credit, they started to see the opportunity that we saw, and over the course of months, we were able to develop a good common understanding.”

Central to sealing the deal was BlackBerry’s ability to convince Samsung that it had restructured its *business to such an extent that the fact that it still makes phones would not *colour any of the *decisions made by its enterprise business.

This business is establishing itself as an agnostic mobile computing provider, which makes it easier for businesses to use devices of all kinds securely.

“It was important for them to see that we weren’t going to use the relationship to further our device business, Mr Sims said.

The device business is going to *compete in the *market, but the enterprise business is going to look at things from a different vantage point.”

JUST THE TIP OF THE ICERBERG

Asked if BlackBerry was working on similar deals with the likes of Apple, Sony, HTC and booming Chinese handset maker Xiaomi, Mr Sims said that, while not impossible, the company was more likely to try and extend its deal with Samsung. “Our initial focus is going to be on *operationalising the Samsung partnership, but what we announced last week with Samsung we view as just the tip of the iceberg with them,” he said.

“There is no question that Apple has some great qualities, but it is largely known as a *consumer brand. If they want to succeed in the enterprise, then they will need to do some things differently.

“We are very open to more collaboration with different players, but there was a strong alignment between ours and Samsung’s focus on the enterprise.

We don’t share that with some of the other companies because they are focused on the consumer *business and in some cases, the low end consumer business, which doesn’t interest us.”

Mr Sims said BlackBerry was *looking at the potential for wearable *technology, such as smartwatches to play a greater role as corporate authentication devices, but that the company had no short-term plans to introduce its own wearable devices.”

BlackBerry WorkLife - A new solution that will change your life

About ten days ago, BlackBerry hosted a bigWorkoriented event where the company revealed several new services along just BES12. One amongst them is WorkLife which will significantly change the way you use your mobile(s). This service enables you to maintain two different contact numbers on a single cellular SIM, cutting the hassle of carrying two phones and stay connected to both worlds at once.

BlackBerry acquired Movirtu to generate WorkLife. The service is not just helpful to enterprise customers but also to every individual out there. This virtually generated SIM handles everything you get today including the Internet data.

In the BYOD sector, an employee can subscribe to WorkLife to bring in personal connections to work under complete control. User can make calls with both numbers and can receive calls from both. Moreover, it offers separate billing making it easy to manage company and personal assets.

WorkLife is a cross-platform solution for BlackBerry, Android and Apple smartphones. WorkLife is BES independent and can be subscribed by anyone through their carrier operators starting in December. Stay with us for more details on WorkLife

Agreed about trusting BlackBerry and QNX but even they are only as strong as their weakest link. So if Apple or Google is supplying the overlaying software and it is that software that manages the connection to Internet well my trust is zilch ......

    Posted via CB10
BlackBerry has a long standing history of procrastination!

BlackBerry for far too long has relied on others to provide the software front end for QNX car development UI, yet QNX has done things themselves it's not enough!!

    1. There is a company ready to make $100 million plus with an ODB2 adapter with Telus 4G SIMS and a yearly inexpensive account along with iOS and Android apps for end users to get telemetry on their Cars!

BlackBerry should BUY them! Not just to sell to consumers, but to sell as a service end to end solution for fleet management!
    A) UPS, FedEx, Beck Taxi, etc
    B) consumers wanting to double check their cab fares along in real-time before time travelled etc real statistics compared to can drivers gunning the damn gas pedals to trip up the spedometer reading which affects Prices! (I can feel this as it makes me stomach sick, but it's a taxi can tactic known in New York over 25yrs being done here to rip off customers) ! Customers should know if their cabs rented for services have been tampered with or being exploited before hand!!
    C) work with rental car companies across the globe!

Put those damn NFC systems in BlackBerry to real use, unlock car doors etc! Boost payments with Go Transit! The Damn Pan-Am games had an opener yesterday for facilities in Markham! Where was BlackBerry?! Time to freaking capitalize man?!

These are things that make dollars and sense for IoT and long term brand name renewal and recognition! Rebuilding the brand is super important in these times going forward to prepare for growth!!

I want to punch a few ppl at BlackBerry for not thinking job sectioning theses things, or for thinking they don't make sense!

BlackBerry - Accept no substitute. Period!
