Been thinking lately that the QNX division should get into the secure server market. Big money in servers for these companies and with QNX / BlackBerry rep for security it may be a big opportunity.

    I love lines like this....

o Unlike recent attacks on retailers, we have seen no unusual fraud activity related to this incident.

No unusual fraud.... just the normal fraud that goes on on a day to day basis but to be clear, it's not related to this incident.

As they say in Double-Speak (now I didn't specifically name any company or speak of ethics...) the results often met with various degrees of success !!! (could be anywhere from the very best to the very worse). Occasionally some articles from The Motley Fool are worth the time to read them. The author Transcend Asset whom I admire has excellent skills and does the research that it merits, a gold standard that I personally wish all would approach. The following articles from other authors touches on some of the required questionings in the journalist approach:

Surprisingly, BlackBerry?s Passport Might Actually Be a Bigger Deal Than Apple?s iPhone 6 (AAPL, BBRY)
Ultimately, judging initial sales for these devices versus the respective market capitalizations of Apple and BlackBerry can tell investors which product's sales performance is most likely to create stock gains. Therefore, investors can see that based on market capitalization alone, the Passport's sales of only 200,000 units might actually be more meaningful for BlackBerry's stock than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are for Apple.

Comment: Will be interesting to follow-up on sales numbers and percentages in coming months, what angle will be given to the presented interpretations of its expected success.

Maybe a reason for today's sell off?
Below is an excerpt of Morningstar's update on BBRY
for reference their target price was increased from $7 to $8 and they have a HOLD
There is more to the report, but this gives the overall theme.

We see no chance that BlackBerry will re-emerge as a
leading smartphone maker. Forecasting the companys
long-term business model and financial health is
extremely cloudy today, and we view any investment in
BlackBerry as a bet that the company can transform itself
into an extremely niche smartphone supplier to
    enterprises and government agencies, adequately
monetize its variety of software assets, or both. In our
view, even after the firms turnaround plans are finished,
we dont have a high degree of confidence that BlackBerry
can do much better than break even in the long term, and
we dont see a compelling risk/reward profile for the
    company today.
We believe that BlackBerry's missteps came years ago,
when the firm failed to react to the threat of Web-enabled
smartphones with robust app stores and developer
support, such as Apple's iOS and Google's Android
platforms. Today, both customers and businesses are
overwhelmingly choosing devices with strong ecosystems
like iOS and Android, with corporations shifting to a
bring-your-own-device model by addressing email and
security on their employees' devices, rather than pushing
BlackBerrys onto their employees. We see no chance of
BlackBerry building a comparable ecosystem to iOS
    anytime soon.
BlackBerry may still hold some valuable assets, such as
BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), enterprise software, and
QNX. Yet the companys ability to monetize and profit from
these first two assets remains questionable, at best, even
though startups with similar offerings are growing at
much faster paces. QNX may be a leading software
platform in automotive infotainment systems, but revenue
isnt yet meaningful. BlackBerry may still reinvent its
hardware business to supply highly secure devices to
enterprises and governments that value top-notch
security, although market share will, at best, be a rounding
error compared with the smartphone market as a whole.

Wow. That's a little harsh. Obviously some personal prejudices in that write up. I agree that BlackBerry is currently an "unknown" but in reality they only need to sell a portion of devices compared to Apple Samsung etc to be profitable. And comparing growth RATE to small start ups isn't exactly fair as startups by nature always show huge growth at first.

Seems to be trying to pull unrelated things in to compare with BlackBerry and make them sound related.

At best I'd take this wrote up with a grain of salt. Just wish all those others wanting to see BlackBerry fail would look at these types of reports objectively (we all know that will never happen).

Anyone concerned the delays replenishing out of stock passports will hurt sales? I also hope they don't over react and build too much inventory either. What are your thoughts and are you hearing anyone discuss this?

OT: Can they please order a run of passports compatible with VZW . I will gladly pay full price... I want one in black!

    Analyst offered nothing new.

My guess today's sell off was in part due to lack of sales of the Passport (plus the market forgot to slam BlackBerry yesterday. )

Passport launched, great initial sales. But then BlackBerry let sales die. ShopBlackBerry and Amazon are still out of stock. Some of the other countries that introduced the Passport over the weekend reportedly started to run low or go out of stock as well. Then add yesterday's rumor from N4BB that AT&T may delay the US launch until 2015, and all the good vibes are gone. The US may experience deja vu.

Even yesterday's news that the US DoD will launch it's new NIPRNet based on the Z30 maybe deemed suspect by bears because which carrier is offering the Z30 in the States? Most likely BlackBerry may be selling a GSM-based Z30 model directly to the government since DoD said they wanted a world phone and Verizon reportedly stopped selling the Z30 all together.

Would LOVE it if BlackBerry started selling Verizon's Z30 version directly! No reason not to since Verizon refuses to sell it. BlackBerry won't be competing with a customer.

Would be great if they could roll this out to consumers on some form of freemium model too.

I hope they announce and launch all their initiatives before the end of this year. BlackBerry needs to give all the BBOS holdouts and EZPass customers reasons to upgrade from the free Silver perpetual licenses to subscription licenses to encourage more customers to start paying/upgrading in February. Getting the products out this calendar year gives everyone some time to try it out before deciding whether to pay or not.
