I hope BB announces a software update soon. I think stock will take care of itself as Z10 (an already awesome device) becomes even more phenomenal. Happy/Satisfied customers will contribute to positive buzz, create more sales and that'll drive stock price higher and higher.

Will BBRY please announce some hard sales numbers soon. We really need to know and every day that the vacuum exists is a problem. Come on, if the sales are that good, just tell us!
Nothing before March 28 is my guess. No point, focus on the US launch at the moment.

Are you serious??? Put aside the technicals my friend. There's a time when the ugliest stuff happens and it's called manipulation. I've been an economist for more than 15 years and I can assure you that the predictive potential from analyzing data from a stock like this is laughable.
Let's agree to disagree on that!!! I show my charts, post them to the board and they are there for everyone to see. So far, I trust my judgment. Not sure where you are going with the economic thought, my PhD is in Economics so please tell me what I don't know.

I am confident that big US business will drive this stock's price as far down as they can before the the release of hard facts that say otherwise. Even then they will smear any good news with their vile. The question for any investor is do you believe in this company and their potential to grow.

I absolutely believe that BlackBerry's rebirth is upon us and things will be looking rosie in about 6 months from now.
    Couldn't agree more here.

Sounds like you have been burned pretty badly in the past. Let's call it a draw, I'll produce some charts for those who seem to want to see them, and you cover the economincs of trading stock. We are all in this to make money in the end here, cheers.

i've not seen BB close within $.02 three trading days in a row before:
    $13.48, $13.48, $13.46

the corner of this wedge formation is really tough to get a read on.

morganplus8, are there peer-reviewed studies showing the efficacy of the kind of technical analysis you are doing?

I'll be honest and say I've always been skeptical of chartists. I pretty much think along the lines of Malkiel who opined that it's much like astrology. If there is scientific evidence for this, I'd of course change my mind.

I believe that most of the research has shown that after trading costs, investing based only on charting does not out perform the markets. That being said it does not mean it is not useful because there is a good representation of market participants out there (including algos) that do incorporate charting in making their investment decision and if that is the case then you must respect it. IMHO, charting can be powerful when combined with good old fundamental research.

    All,

Realize that to many, investment is like religion. Don't say bad things about how someone invests. Accept it and move on. If not, be constructive.

My advice to those on the fence:
The speculators hall of fame consists of an empty room. However, I can point to many value investors that have outperformed the markets. Graham, Buffett, Klarman and our very own PREM Watsa.

The reason stock splits can be viewed as bullish, the lower price allows smaller investors access to it. Of course 1 share at 400 or 10 shares of 40 are exactly the same, but if I have 160 to invest - now I can buy a few shares. It's that kinda thing. It's why Buffet came up with Berkshire Minis :-)
Are you referring to why two classes of stock. One being smaller than the other?

If so, the reason is that funds appeared that literally were nothing but shares of Berkshire that allowed smaller people to be able to buy fractional shares. Despising the fact that management fees were going to these funds, buffett created two classes of stock thusly obsoleting such funds.

probably it is more like an art, a good artist(chartist) obviously way outperforms the market
also it is hard to copy what somebody else does considering things such as time frame, goals and personal psychology

Honestly, I think that those who do not know technical analysis are missing out. As a charter, we can't predict the future 100%, but we can get a general idea of where the stock will go. Especially with patterns, we can come up with a 70% probability that a stock will break out in a specific direction to a reasonable target. Indicators are also extremely helpful, as they help you determine when a stock is overbought or oversold, hence allowing you to easily assess the risk and reward. RIMM for example, someone who doesn't know tech would be that one person who bought at $18 even though our indicators showed it was overbought. Techs also give us a heads up on when there's a reversal coming up. For example, before the stock market crash, technicals were already looking pretty ****ty. If you were a tech trader, you'd be already shorting the stock before regular investors even realize that we're heading into a recession. Especially with options where timing is extremely important, you need to know your technicals. Overall technical analysis allows us to pro-actively see a reversal in trend, assess the risk/reward, and acquire a general probabilty a stock will go in a certain direction.

I believe all different types of ways of trading have their own merits. I'm a fundamental investor at heart, but I also use technicals to gauge volatility and whether or not it's "safe" to use a little margin.

It is what it is...I think to say that one way is better than the other is foolish.

In our case, I think BBRY is fundamentally sound...and if I had more time on my hands, I would use technicals as triggers to do more frequent trading. For the time being though I'm just holding heavy and holding long.
