The more I hear this guy speak, the more I really don't like him and am more than a tad happy he didn't get a chance to bid on BB. He's sucking Apples clock and it just seems like now that he's missed out on BB, he's looking to be acquired or partner with them.
Well let's take the good of it : "BlackBerry"+"Value"+"Sculley" in the same sentence is obviously positive !

I don't understand this kind of ratings. Its only blabla about the well known weaknesses of the company. A rating solely based on the weak performance of BBRY in the past, nothing about the opportunities, the new strategy and the future. With this logic every good performing company will grow forever and every bad performing company will inevitably die.
I've made my opinion about this. You have to consider that these analysts are not talking about a stock alone but about a stock in a given situation against other oportunities. How I read it would be "well, they are still in troubles and you could make more money selling the shares and buying others". They are "instant bearish", this is day (or short) trading advice. I am "long bullish": this does not impact me.

That was a good read. Even BGR had an article complementing the Z30 (is it the end of the world?).

SA just had article rehashing news saying carriers are anti-blackberry. (duh). Seemed a bit too focused on the UK and US imo

    Morgan,

Did you ever do any Engineering work/installations in southern Ontario? I have an electrical Engineering background and used to work in automotive engineering (GM in Oshawa, and then more consulting based work). Manufacturing in Ontario is not what it once was so lucky I had a Comp Sci degree to help me switch out and stil stay near my family.
I did a number of projects for Hayes-Dana, Ford directly, Magna and Linamar. We built automated machinery and programmed them into their existing production lines. A great deal of our work came from the US as well as other sectors of the economy. I never spent time in the GM plants nor worked around Oshawa unfortunately. I did a monster job for the largest cardboard boxing plant in the world, in Bulter, Indiana. I had a staff of 16 Engineers and a large number of trade workers and I would contract them into manufacturing plants. When we needed experts to build machinery, I could make use of my internal staff for that purpose too. There really is no money in building prototype machinery! It was a lost leader to get into plants to obtain service contracts. I finished up my career as the Corp Eng for one of Canada's largest companies. I had 27 plants to look after in North America but I was asked to look after additional plants as we had 79 of them and it burnt me out! LOL

Wow. That is a lot of responsibility and I got stressed just readiing it I was just curious if I had ever bumped into your company and it sounds like I have not. We did work for GM and Toyota during the last five years of my twenties (mid thirties now). We used to use those Mike push-to-talk radios alot and even when I stopped working on plant floors, my blood pressure would go up when I would hear one used in a costco. Always hated hearing "you still in the plant" after I just made it to my car to go to another job Nowhere near your level of responsibility mind you, but more stressful than what I do now.

Anyways, sorry for the OT everyone.

    Hey there, everyone!

and by the way, any non-BBRY stock picks from MorganPlus8?
I expect to receive a small bonus of few thousand at the end of February. I'd probably invest it into stocks. Last time, I only invested in BBRY. This time, I'd like to invest in BBRY again and maybe another stock. Would love to hear what MorganPlus8 is watching for himself.
    Cheers,
Great to have you back on this thread! I have provided some ideas for investments here but in all fairness, you will have to go back and read a few pages from the beginning of the weekend or so?

You must have been shocked to see how far BBRY has moved in the past 6 weeks or so. Today, we are likely to push a bit higher here, say, $ 8.75/shr before we give back some and base out. The stock is trading extremely well from a TA point of view. If you don't hold some, it's still at the beginning of it's run for this year.

Please click on my I.D. and read my messages for the past two weeks, there aren't that many but I do have so choices for you in that material!

    Welcome back!

    Hi Chaud57!!

I assume you are invested in BBRY? I thought I would stick my latest chart inside your message so as to provide something about BBRY without claiming too much BBRY thread .... real estate!

    Here is my chart:
The BBRY Café. [Formerly: I support BBRY and I buy shares]-bbry-chart-january-16-2014.png

We are in over-bought territory and we have been there, (see circle above), for a few weeks. With the four day correction, we are just under the RSI = 70 rule so the stock is burning off this resistance. I should state that this rally began when the stock closed above the 7-ema weeks ago. Since then, it has managed to rally strong while holding onto that support. The $ 8.20 - $ 8.45 level has held as well and tomorrow is Options day so the stock is doing well. We have a modest downtrend line (red) to break through, that is why I mentioned $ 8.75 as our high for today. We will work off this situation in a few days and likely head higher. Support is the 7-ema which is $ 8.43 and our low is $ 8.45/shr so things are perfect so far. So be patient people!

    Chaud57,

The worst part of manufacturing plant living are those huge plants, 1.5 million squ.ft. and up, if you don't have a cart to drive, you are ruined the first day of service. The next issue are the many rural plants in the US, the workers don't like to work more than 8 hours as many of them have farms or other things on the go. We would invade their plants and work 19 hour days, they would see us on every shift. The final issue I had was that of Unions, I'm licensed in electrical and mechanical as well as being an Eng.. I always had to have a worker stand next to me and do nothing while I worked in their machine shops. I'd be up on a big piece of machinery, doing my Autocad drawings, head back to the machine shop, make the parts, and this guy would be attached to me! Hated that. We used the radios too, and cell phones for private conversations of course. The private conversations were me letting off steam about the cling-on attached to my side! LOL

I think that most of us feel that way. The only thing that could have caused a monster run in the stock would be if BBRY had right-sized the business model and showed us breakeven results with future growth and earnings in two more quarters. We still might hear something to that effect in the next few months but a large number of shorts have moved on. It is possible that the short position is up for this next reporting period as we were stone-walled at $ 9.00/shr.. They could have pulled up, shorted the heck out of it to stop the bleeding and created the TA to cover again. News trumps all, Chen is getting it done, you have to be patient until BBM-X 2.0 and BB 10 upgrades are universal. For me, the stock is doing a perfect job of working off those stupid SA articles and the nonsense from other fly-by-night papers like the WSJ.

Sorry but to me the stock market is a tool to make money and I do very nicely playing "short". Most of the longs are in because they are so far under that they feel they have little to no choice. There are some very sad stories around here, I am one of them.

Yes, I am invested in BBRY for 3500 shares and have been for a while now (with a couple sell and buy backs). If I wasn't invested in BBRY, I just completed an awesome hijack of this thread I have been following this thread since approx Jan last year (I created account much later than that). I can't remember ever following a thread like this one. Great community in here. I have been following your posts very closely and I am grateful for them so thank you. I am very much liking how Chen is managing the message so far and I don't miss all the surprises of last year (well surprises for me anyways. I remember I was giving my son a bath during that
    fun Sept. pre-earnings release).

I sympathize with your plant experience. I can remember joking with my boss that I needed one stop watch to count how much time I spent in meetings that day and another to count how much time I spent walking. Oshawa Car Assembly is around 10 million square feet of floor space excluding the closed down truck plant and it is really spread out. The electricians used to ride bicycles before my time. I also remember having to request union electricians on a job before a contract electrician was permitted to do the work, or because of seniority, requesting multiple plant electricians to get the plant electrician I wanted.

most ... maybe. But I stand on my (very) long position because I believe BlackBerry will finally make it.
That's from day one and never changed.
It's not about love, it's about faith in a vision. And Snowden may have helped far more than one can think.

P.S: I'm somewhere 20% down from my average now, and no sweating to see the two digits back in a short while. That's my short vision lol.

I don't think you could ethically justify the argument that the stock market's purpose is or should be strictly to make money. You could justify all sorts of things that way that are not ethical or even good business sense.

I don't short anything because I think it should be illegal. It's anti-investing. I love capitalism, but don't think the market should be run like a casino.

If you want to get down to the purpose of things, you might want to reflect on what the point would have been of a bunch of men in Amsterdam and London a few hundred years ago getting together to create some of the first joint stock companies for losing money and dumping cargo into the North Sea. Short selling is the opposite of investment, and you can't claim that it has any self-justified purpose linked to the stock market, even if it happens to be legal.

Short companies if you want to, but in a very real sense, know that you are responsible for real people losing real jobs in the real world. Hey, it's just not my thing.

I'm sure a load of people will disagree with my view, but I just don't think investing requires me to stop caring about human beings.

I will agree that the stock market plays many rolls for the many users. I am simply stating what the market is to ME, today! Long ago, I invested in Blackberry because I loved the hardware and knew a good bit about the company.

That was long ago and I do not buy or sell any stock except to make money or preserve what I invested. Shorting has worked well for me while it may not work well for others.

As far as Snowden, I have mixed feelings about what he did but very glad of the results. What I do not understand is where the outrage is for what the government continues to do and has no intentions to ever stop. I fear we have lost control and they will not be turned back via the election process.

Anyway SuperFly, thanks for still talking to me

Thanks, Morgan. I'd catch-up on posts since 10th Jan then.
Hmm.. if BBRY is set to rally, maybe I can buy call options strike 11, I guess for Sep 2014. I only have few hundred dollars right now. So, I'll probably only get 1 lot.

Next month, I should have more. Then I can buy more BBRY options and research (and maybe buy) another of your picks. Though it looks like XOMA, PSDV, HALO, ACAD are already too high so I am not sure what are good entry points for those. I'll look back at posts since 10th Jan and read-up on what you've posted to figure this out.
