But then they shored more in last few days so I am guessing short interest went up again.. I think 180 mil is the celling for short interest. That was the number when shorts were desperate at the higerst level. Now tough call, do you go long now because shorts covering or go short because of ER. What was the reason for today's covering. I do not think any big boys will buy now before ER and before january.

Well I think they covered because of the 6 dollar puts

Citi downgraded BBRY to a sell. I think that it is the reason for the after hours drop.

Sorry, I do not get that. Why would they cover because of puts ? I thought they would make money with puts if they did not cover today. SP under would add value for puts. Please explain

here is a good write up to the downgrade at Citi
BlackBerry: Citi Cuts to Sell; Shut-Down Would Eat All its Cash - Tech Trader Daily - Barrons.com

however, this is now from Ehud Gelblum who took over the role from Jim Suva, so this is his first report at Citi.
What is interesting is if you look at his previous rating on June 24, 2013 when he was at Morgan
BlackBerry (BBRY) Set to Post 'Meet or Beat' Q1; Q10 Viewed as '3rd Best Seller' - Morgan Stanley

He had a $22 price target on that report! and then downgraded to a hold when it gaped down to $10 on June 30th. Now it is $4!
also on March 20th, 2013 with the stock at $15.03 after it had gone from $6 to $18 he upgrades to a buy from hold. previously was a sell at $9. But he had a hold from $64 to the eventual sell at $9

Ehud does acknowledge his Sell rating carries the risk that the parts of the business really do have value, including cash and patents, the BBM messaging platform, and the BES server program:

While BBM is mostly non-revenue generating today, there is the risk that either Blackberry or a potential suitor, successfully monetizes the current 80M person use base and begins to value BBM as a social network akin to Instagram, Facebook, Whats App, etc. While we believe the probability of either success in this venture or of a 3rd party valuing it as such is low, under recent social network valuations, we calculate BBM could be valued as high as $1.6B, or $3/share by itself
