    I agree.

However, my point of bringing this up though is that the last round of interviews with Dodge shed some light on how it was him who sold QNX to Mike L and Mike L told him he had to prove QNX could do "mobile" and hence the Playbook. It was only then that BBRY decided to go all-in with BB10 (which might have been a little too little too late, or no real choice at that point).

I still do not understand completely who are the talent behind "BB10." Who is coding it, who is the architect, who is the security guru, etc.

No, it is an excellent real time operating system. The problem is that iOS and Android are built on Darwin (BSD/Mach based) and Linux both of which provide an equally good platform for a smart phone OS. QNX confers no special advantage in this space. Anyone who claims it does is spouting marketing nonsense.

Would someone please post an update, if any, on the BBM-X launch going forward, it's difficult ot get some info on that topic without the nonsense that goes with it. Sounds complicated so far but encouraging too as they have traffic! I'll watch for any new progress throughout the day, this one needs to sort itself out for Monday morning.

Respectfully, Kris, this sounds as a little haphazard approach to investing.

Yeah I know. There is a few things I want to do and my money is tied up in BB. The way I look at it is if I can get back to the $11 range and sell, its only a $5k loss, and then dump that money into AMD and hope it hits $9/share then I make back my loss and more. Also heard that Twitter is trying to get IPO by thanksgiving and I need 5K in my trading account to be considered to be able to buy it. THAT stock I think will take off.

Talk about bad timing! .. But good to hear the damage was as minimal as could be. As for other stocks, not sure if this is a blip or not but I've been riding 500 shares of HIMX since $8.10 and it's been pretty good so far. In fact, it's been counterbalancing my BB nicely.
You read my HIMX suggestion? Lol ...now that BBRY money is freed up, I think I'll add some too if it pulls back a bit.

BBMx: nothing on either android or iphone app store yet. At least the fake and unofficial BBM apps are gone from the android Google play store. Google should have a better QA process in reviewing submitted apps generally speaking.

Yep, saw you posted about it a while back, did some research, wrote a couple 'thinking out loud' posts on here, and dove in! Right now the immediate excitement is about Google Glass and although I don't particularly think it will sell up a storm (although I could very well be wrong and have not thought out of the box with it yet), I think it will at the very least help usher in new mediums/interfacing.

I actually thanked you for the heads in a couple of posts, but I guess they got buried. Right now it's flirting with $11, so I feel like I owe you a couple of 2-4's, at least

Edit: for those interested in HIMX, Microsoft is rumoured to be incorporating their LCoS in the upcoming Smartglass as well, and there are rumblings of 4-5 other companies testing their microdisplays. Could be a good ride, at least in short term.

Either I missed something or BlackBerry is not quitting hardware. They will still provide hardware, aimed to "prosumers" and enterprise. That's one very important point. Bought devices will remain maintained and softwares updated.
While there will probably no more "marketing" aimed to the consumers, those willing to keep BlackBerry as their preferred devices will be able to.

    Posted via CB10
in fact not much will change as BB is going to focus on the only customers they currently have. the main change will be no more pretending BB has a consumer product and of course the resulting inventory write off and the work force cut.
BB has already lost something like 90% of the share price, but the work force was not reduced by that much. So, the rest of the company is catching up to what happened to the share price already, not the other way around. and so, i don't expect the stock to go down much from here. actually i consider these painful measures as a positive for the stock, perhaps not for the next few days, but soon enough.

Here is one of the comment from Dr. Blair posted at another site I found interesting.

" Odd that after so many quarters (including the current one) that sell through exceeded shipments that BlackBerry saw the need to write off inventories. Inventories at the end of June were $887 million. Sales to end users were 5.9 million devices of which it appears 2.2 million more or less were BB10. The BOM for a BB10 devices is on the order of $205 including $50 for overheads.http://zd.net/134iiDo

I assume the BB7 device inventories were not an issue. A write down of $900 million represents something like 4.5 million devices or about 2 quarters of sales of BB10 devices. The mix must be the issue. It seems they built at least 4 million Z10's they now think they can't sell. But with a BOM of $205 more or less they could promote these at $99 per unit and still only write off less than $500 million. Something bigger is underneath. We need more data."

    Another one by another poster.
" BB shipped 87M phones and sold 103M phones
They sold more than they produced in the last 2.5 yrs
and still have to write off another $1B in inventory... unbelievable!!

However why not sell the phones (z10) first and if they make a loss
    then write off that loss.
Why this hurry to write off everything before it really happens !!

Looks like they are taking this Company private but want the Shareholders to absorb all the costs before doing so.

The Canadian Government should investigate, especially since
    it involves thousands of layoffs".

Morgan. Please add me to your list. It has been very tough to stay positive reading this post lately. Everyone is so focused on the short term without considering this is a 2 to 3 year process to transition.
BlackBerry needs to remove this cloud of doubt regarding a possible sale or partnerships as soon as possible and start communicating their product to the broader masses asap! I'm doing my part by authorizing the purchase of 90 BB10 ' s to date in our company. They have been very well received. I am seeing more and more business people switching to bb10 but it is a slow process.
Call me a total optimist but I believe BlackBerry is turning the corner. Just need to adjust people's expectations for sales and soldier on. That is business in general. It's never linear. Shut out the noise, focus on the product and market like hell! My 2 cents.
Ps. The absence of TH lately indicates to me that something deal wise is up and is very close.

So it wasn't a complete loss for me. Fortunately my sell order executed as soon as the market reopened, down $1 from my buy. On the plus side I had some $10 puts ($CAD) that would have expired worthless on Friday that suddenly became very profitable. I did also have some calls that expired worthless so in the end, still in Red but could have been much worse.

I have some Jan calls in case of BO but 0 common stock any more. Looking to move the money elsewhere, perhaps AMD?
Good for You !!!! Hope you wll have learn to not "play" to the Volatile Casino Game that is BBRY ( Long or Short You can be Burned Very Fast.... To Volatile)

Good point about potential downgrades on Monday morning. My guess is that opinion will be split between people who think this was necessary pruning that will lead to a healthier company, and those who see it as a sign that the company will go out of business soon. I was heartened that the share price rebounded Friday afternoon, but on the other hand, downgrades will probably hurt it.

FWIW, I think the four devices moving forward will be the Z30, Z10, Q10, and the BB7 phone. Q5 doesn't sound like it got any traction at all. I'll be open... given the accounting change involved in the write-down, I don't know what to make of the future viability of BB10 phones. If they continue to stay in the phone business for government and corporate use, won't they have to partner with a manufacturer? Or did the relevant hardware teams stay intact? Any insight?

I Agree it REALLY fascinating... and Especially when you don't have any position, since you can see the things more clearly.

Seeing how peoples react or not about this stock is Crazy !!! The only other Stock that I see that can compare is AAPL some peoples are very emotive with AAPL but it doesn't reach the emotionality of BBRY...

If you knew your history, you would be aware that it was Jobs that was at the helm for both the struggling Apple and then some years later where he instigated and led Apple's remarkable resurgence.
