Question for TA guys...what do you guys use for chart making? Is it a free software or a site? Or have to purchase one?
I use stockcharts.com I find it user friendly and easy to read and free for the basics. I've looked at others and tried them but don't find them as easy to use, especially with no instruction and my limited knowledge.

That is why I speculated if he was busy doing a toastmaster's course!!

Seriously, I think Thor is up to something which required his presence.

I hope something will be announced soon (after the ER naturally) ;-)

Why is everyone asking where Heins has been? Didn't we all agree after the last 2-3 times (ER and AGM etc) that he was making things worse every time he spoke?

I suppose I should be glad it's just "where was Heins?" rather than "Oh man why did they put Heins up there again?" Those discussions were really getting stale.

I started following HALO since last few days because you and Morgan said you are expecting big movement on it and possible doubling of the share price. But it seems to be going down since that 10% rally.

Are there any other cool stocks that I should follow? I don't have money to invest (all tied up in BBRY, strike 35 options) but I want to start following some stocks and be prepared to invest my savings from next pay check (I can save $300-$500 per check so $600 - $1000/month). I want to be prepared to invest that in these stocks.

Is it still worth investing in HALO, IMG even after the 10% rally both stocks have already seen or would you follow some other stocks?

As well as cj's recommendation, there is also freestockcharts.com. It comes with tutorial videos and workbooks.

If you are serious about this, Prorealtime.com is an amazing charting package and free if you only want to access the end of day version.

Not that I know anything about TA nor do I want to engage in a debate either but something occured to me yesterday. Yes one might say it is the news and events that are shaping a SP curve, but seing how the news of the release of the Z30 did nothing on the SP yesterday, one would think the market had mostly factored it in already, which means that TA is about detecting trends that are based, yes, on rumors, or news we don't have access to yet, but for which some people on the market are already reacting. So one would think the sooner you can detect that trend through a fine TA analysis, the better you may be in a position to benefit from said trend before everyone else does...

I know this is probably just basic stuff for most of you, but I am a newbie at this and I am just starting to understand a bit more, so keep it up, I am learning plenty!
    jfguay2,

Let's just examine this morning's trade. A non-believer in TA sees the stock meandering around here, a victim of its own actions, they attribute this negative opening to the credible news from the WS Enquirer that supersedes anything that TA driven investors can predict about the price of the stock going forward. Let you said, the news was baked into the price already, the stock did not rally as much as you would have liked, then came some ofter important news and the stock adjusted accordingly.

The TA person, grabs a coffee, or in CJ's case, a beer, and looks at the chart. They post a chart to the BB board stating that the support has been $ 10.20/shr for over a month and that investors tend to sell the stock when it makes a move above $ 11.00/shr.. They don't comment on what the stock will do today, rather they just set the "guidelines or range" for the stock and watch it open. When pressed, they think it is likely to test the lower range at some point in the day. So what happened?:

The BBRY Café. [Formerly: I support BBRY and I buy shares]-bbry-chart-sept-19b-2013.png

The stock tried to open up postively, it quickly sold off, hitting a low that was 3 cents above the TA guy's target, it then popped ever so briefly, then dropped to that same low again, this time it rallied quickly as there were more buyers than sellers. But along the way down, and along the way up, the stock did something strange, it sat at a level, for awhile, and just traded sideways. Strange isn't it? The stock decided to park itself at a price in two occasions, before continuing the rally back to even. To the non-believer it was time to refresh his/her coffee, to the TA guy/gal, it was time to buy the stock because he/she had just witnessed an "Inverse Head and Shoulders" formation with a clear drop in the stock forming the left shoulder, followed by the additional drop and test of the lows, and the subsequent rally to form the right shoulder. To the TA investor this was a BUY SIGNAL. There is a high probability now that the stock would go to a breakeven price immediately, followed by a rally to new highs. And so the chart that was posted described an entry point, something a non-believer would NEVER ever have the ability to do, it provided us with a change in trend, again, total news to the non-believer, and, it provided a safe entry point to buy the stock and turn a profit. The follow through to this rally is a pullback to resistance or the 20-ema breakout point ($ 10.46/shr) to test whether the rally can continue.

So who do you want to be, the person who points out the news of the past to inform the world where the stock is "sort of going", or the investor who studies what "real money" is doing and bases their trades accordingly? The chart of this morning's trade is very compelling whereas the comments from the non-believer investor really don't help you make money.

I would address one other thing that you said, the TA person is not well versed in the news, they aren't even likely to be able to tell you much about the company either, they spend their time looking at money flows and what investors are doing, not what the media or rumours are telling us today. If you listen to some of the top TA specialists in the world today, they only want to see the chart, they don't care what the company does for a living.

For the record, I have to believe in all aspects of the company itself, I have to like their product, want to use it and love their balance sheet. But when I'm siting at my desk and watching stocks hoping to make my wife a couple of grand, I only make use of TA for that purpose. GL

I could be wrong, but I did hear a couple months ago that in order to get a certain deal, they had to buy 10 minimum.

Morgan, is HALO just profit-taking today? Got a 3 -min chart that may show me when to jump in?
    Hi Randeman!!

I think the stock got too far too quickly and they took the pedal off for a bit, won't last long as it has a habit of not dropping back to support. My best guess is a buy near $ 9.60/shr and hold from there. The stock was way over-bought in the short-term, just call up the Bollinger Bands. The best is yet to come in October. It might not matter at all what your purchase price was in a couple of months time. GL

Yes to those stocks, IMG is a great trading stock but you have to look at the underlying price of Gold. Others here can tell you what entry prices are best but I'll post a chart anytime you need one. As for HALO, that was one heck of a pop on no news, wait until the news starts coming, there is nothing but great things going on with that one but it doesn't go straight up! I personally hold a block of PSDV from lower levels. Its one of those ones with a great story. My winner for the past 12 months is of course ACAD, you cannot stop that one.

Thanks Morgan. I have a feeling that you're right and the buy-in price will not matter, in the long (or short) run on HALO. Hmmmm. I may spend the next hour trying to get in between 9.70 and 9.99, just to miss out and have it go to $40 later on.
Just joking, I'll be into it soon.

Has anyone said they are laying people off near the date of the Z30 introduction?

The WSJ article, if I understood the second-hand reports I've read, said only that the layoffs would be carried out in the remainder of the year.

You don't lay off almost 5000 people overnight, obviously.

    Hi jmehta22

I'm in it at lower levels, I don't care at all about earnings, nothing there for me. I'm only interested in two events, the FDA will pass judgment on their Phase III submission in October and their current studies. They have a killer pipeline, have you seen one like this before; and, they have the best research/cost program out there. If the FDA approves of their Phase III, they are profitable and cash rich.

I normally don't quote anything from SeekingAphla but this article is a good one:

pSivida Corp. (PSDV): A Closer Look At PSivida's Pipeline [Pfizer Inc.] - Seeking Alpha

Invest at your own risk, thinking in mind that October is an important month for this play.

Land development. I don't buy land for just holding purpose. has to have a light at the end of the tunnel with in 3 years. helping my sons to just hold and prosper what we have. started selling real-estate then developing and construction. now just developing and contracting out the construction only if development profit is too low. played alberta boom. won and lost big time and learnt to fear the market and the loans to equity ratio.
Orchard was between 1996 and 2000. lost money there.
