He is probably referring to the term "capacity to support". There is no promise regarding the actual size of the roll out, just upper limits.
Nice catch! I read and re-read yet still couldn't figure it out on my own. Lol!

BlackBerry has received certification to be used on US Department of Defense networks, the first Mobile Device Management (MDM) provider to be so certified.

"With foreign entities – governmental and criminal – ramping up attacks on electronic communications and information systems, BlackBerry provides government agencies with a proven partner that follows top-to-bottom security protocols," said BlackBerry Security Group SVP Scott Totzke in a statement anouncing what's known in the acronymious DoD as an Authority to Operate (ATO) certification.

The ATO was granted by the DoD's Defense Information System Agency (DISA), and specifically allows the touchscreen BlackBerry Z10 and keyboard-equipped Q10 to be used in concert with BlackBerry's MDM service, BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10.
Saw this and thought I'd share.

Seems like the Q5 will be available in Canada for $49 with a 2 year contract.

Update: TELUS, Bell and Virgin BlackBerry Q5 pricing | MobileSyrup.com
Considering the performance of BB10 handsets in the market, I believe this Q5 pricing structure is extremely unwise. Blackberry is in a difficult situation wrt handset sales. Unfortunately I believe there are only 3 choices, and they are choosing the one that will not only guarantee their failure in the handset market, but cost them dearly in resources that could give them a chance at survival as a software and services business.

    1. What they appear to be doing here.
-Fail to realize the current true value of their products in the market (apps, reputation etc).
    -Overprice them.
    -Sell abysmally
-End up with massive excess inventory. Write downs. Fire sales. Failure not only on the handset market, but critically injure their position wrt to a SAS play.

2.Half the price they are trying to get now on handsets.
-break even or lose a bit on each sale.
    -sell fairly well.
-get some traction in the market and maybe even encourage a few developers to put out apps.
-as conditions allow, specifically as demand for their products increase (future handsets probably), slowly increase prices.
    Profit.

    3. Bail from the handset market now. Right now. Spin it as "current positive conditions in the SAS market (DOD beta, Samsung Africa BBM)", whatever, doesn't really matter. Just spin it and bail. Slash staff to SAS only and give it a go.
    Profit.

    1 will not work.
2 or 3 are slim chances as well, but at least they are chances.

Can someone please explain phone pricing to me, I think I maybe dumb.. because when I want to a product such as a phone I expect to pay around $300. If I go with a cell company and they say I can pay $50 for 2 years so basically $25/year I would say Great!!

So I guess I'm dumb as a new phone that pbly costs $200 to make should be sold off contract for $150 and it should be cost $0 for a 2 year contract for a brand new phone. How is this possible can someone explain this too me?

Wont quote your full comment out of respect to the rest of the thread from having to see this junk again.

If you would be following what has been done you would notice that there is a very nicely timed pipeline of production set up by blackberry. Lean and mean...

    1. Ramp up Z10 production
    2. Continue Z10 production
    3. Ramp down Z10 production and reduce price to get rid of stock.

    4. (parallel to step 3) Ramp up Q10 production
    5. Continue Q10 production
    6. Ramp down Q10 production and reduce price to get rid of stock.

follow the pattern for Q5 and then A10...

(it gets more complicated when you throw in hardware and software development but you can imagine those are part of the pipeline in earlier stages)

    1. Increase BB10 device shipments gradually, quarter-over-quarter with our current goal being > 2.7M
    2. Increase marketing budget while cutting costs by becoming a lean, attractive company, but continue to invest in R&D while striving for break-even results at the same time. Not an easy task but they came pretty close last quarter not taking into account Venezuela.
    3. The above will buy them enough time to change (some) perception, roll out BES10 with hopefully enough upgrades, bring BBM cross platform, and have them grow their ecosystem.

I'd rather have them burn through a billion (less than 2 dollars a share = a normal trading day post-quarter results) instead of playing panic-football. Good luck trying to sell your company then.
