Absolutely, I started with a few shares as well for many different reasons: I am a newbie at investing and didn't know what I was doing (still not sure) hence didn't want to lose money I couldn't afford to lose. Second some of my cash was tied up and bought only what I could afford at a particular time. With the help of this board, I now feel more comfortable investing, know more about BB stock and have more confidence as an investor. I now have accumulated 1400 shares which is peanuts for many, but a decent amount for me. I should be able to fly first class or even charter a small private jet to the $100 party!!!
As M8 demonstrated, the old saying holds: it's not the size that counts, it's how you use it!!!!
Yup I'm on the freedom 55 plan this year. Last year it was the freedom 54, plan. Year before that 53...
    C'mon BlackBerry!

So, let's look at AAPL (Apple) for a moment:

    Attachment 176210

If you bought AAPL in the past 9 months, you are feeling sick today. The market is rallying and AAPL is still going down and they have a $ 60 billion dollar share buyback program in place. The stock is leaning hard against the Bollinger Bands, only on the downside, it can't fall fast enough for funds to get out. Note the RSI is well below RSI (14) = 30 meaning that it should be done on the downside, and, it is slowly heading for a double bottom. And still you can't make a dime on that play.

    Now look at BlackBerry:

    Attachment 176211

Today we gapped above that blue downtrend line and never looked back. The same Bollinger Bands that are supporting AAPL as it collapses, is holding us back. We have a wonderful gain in the past 9 months. This stock is doing extremely well here. I included some Horz. lines in this chart to show you that we might be within a channel of sorts. The first challenge is $ 15.00 followed by $ 16.25/shr. The same can be said of the Pennant formation, we are stuck in those resistant levels for now. Remember yesterday? I mentioned that trading is 6 1/2 LONG hours and we need to burn off some time before we can make our move. I like what I've seen so far today, I hope we close above $ 14.80 and clear $ 15.00/shr tomorrow. Anything above that is panic buying from those who are short. The volume is light, we know that $ 14.70 is now support here, let's rest up and try to make a new HOD!

PS: As for the size of your trading account, I don't know if I have time to show you a 6-year old account of mine, but that account is an RRSP that had only $ 4,500 in it in 2007. Today it is valued at $ 146,000 with all of it invested in BBRY at $ 12.60/shr.. So for those of you who think that $ 5,000 can never amount to anything, I have an account to show you. Keep trying no matter what the size of the investment.
Hello, AAPL investors, look at your chart, now back to BBRY, now back at your chart, now back to BBRY. Sadly, AAPL isn’t BBRY, but if you sell now and start loading up on BBRY, your personal chart could look like BBRY. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a rocketship to the moon with the stock your stock could not look like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s a bag of cheap call options for after the ER. Look again, the options are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your chart looks like BBRY and not AAPL. I am on BES10.

That account has an interesting history to it. It was one of my several accounts at RBC back in the day. My other accounts where worth much more and my broker, a guy I trained in the business many years ago, called me to tell me he couldn't have that account in his book as it was below $ 100,000. It was fine to leave my other accounts with him but that one had to go! So the firm I worked for, trained the guy who then got to over see my accounts, made me leave RBC!! So I transferred the account to a discount broker and bought an oil and gas stock, the company got acquired in 2008 and I purchased ACADIA Pharma for $ 1.29/shr (17,000 shares with the proceeds), sold them recently (ACAD) and bought BBRY at the fire sale price of $ 12.60/shr. Now what chance is there that I will have over $ 200,000 in that account this year? Damn good chance. So the moral is, "wouldn't my broker buddy love to have that account back now?". Ha! Ha! (He doesn't know about the growth of this account .... yet)
What do you look for when you're choosing a stock? How did you come across ACAD?

I went in by 50 blocks.
    Now I'm loaded by 400.
    My avg is $13.5
    Shouldn't move until $100
    40.000 - (400*13.5) = $34.600 profit
When you consider this as a 3-5 years investment, I believe it's a pretty nice ROI.
Most of us are amateurs, please remember. We buy cash, no options. So this is our very own money. Real money.
(sometimes I pray for the finance world to gamble ONLY with real money, but that's another story).

Edit: BTW, 40 X $3 increase : isn't that $120 profit in a trader perspective ? got it, you subtract transaction fees.
My apology if my previous post offended someone, which I really didn't mean that. It just surprised me ....

I'm hoping some of you gents could weigh in on my thoughts at the moment with regards to BBRY FY 2014.

Many longs have been touting huge SP targets from $25 to $60 to even $80.

Now street estimates sit around $0.05 for Q1, admittedly low. However, For us to reach for example the $25 range and taking a conservative PE ratio (Considering I don't believe all longs and the market is yet convinced that BBRY has come back) it would require a FY 2014 to have an EPS of $2.50.

    Q1 (Longs expect) = $0.25 - (let's remain conservative here)

    Let's assume global roll out of Q10, Z10 & Q5 by 2nd Quarter:
(Below I've made a rough guestimate of what & how the market will react)

The BBRY Café. [Formerly: I support BBRY and I buy shares]-capture.png

After Q2 I've kept the EPS static and expected only a 2% increase in long EPS quarterly expectations. Those figures are not totally outrageous but yet we can reach a minimum of $17.80 at a conservative 10x multiplier is encouraging.

This is a rough estimate and it hasn't been entirely well thought through but I think it gives us a bit of reassurance in how the stock is going.

    Here's to wishing a $4 FY 2014 EPS @ even a 10x Multiplier, folks we'll be at a $40 SP.

Please weigh in on my analysis, it is inherently weak because I've not really had time to sit at home and go through everything but just wanted to contribute something a little more analytically by way of figures.

What do you look for when you're choosing a stock? How did you come across ACAD?
    ACAD:
Debt free, cash on hand, a product that has huge potential, and in the case of ACAD, it had Phase III results that were mind blowing accept for their lower tier trail dosages. When I saw what the 40 mg dose did to the numbers, we bought a pile of the stock. ACAD will likely be a $ 30.00 stock this year. Oh yeah, I look at the management and in the case of ACAD, I personally know one of the Directors.

I continue to look for these gems in the rough. I like IMG.to for the same reason, they pay a dividend, have $ 2.50/shr in cash and mine some good gold. So right now, gold is dropping like a stone, I'll be a buyer under $ 4.00/shr soon. I see gold bottoming out around $ 1180.00/oz..

Its a case of looking for well financed companies in a sector that includes growth. BBRY is such a play, it has a great Brand name and the finances are top notch here. Everything else will fall into place. Hope that helps!

Thanks Morgan! Not to get too offtopic but how do you find companies like IMG, or ACAD? Are you well versed in those industries already or do you pick an industry that you think could yield high potential for growth and then start to research who is in them? I'm just asking cause the only reason I know Bbry is cause I have been living and breathing it for years - but wouldn't know where to start outside of tech.

    Cheers,
EPS is only one of the factor which affects the SP. The thing impacts the SP the most is the perception on how much the potential earning the underline company can get in future. A good example is the stock price by AMZN and NFLX. Currently,AMZN has negative EP but SP is at $278 while EPS for NFLX is at 523.

I would say the company is going through a turn around.

If it is successful, ie the bull case is right, highly doubt you will see 3 quarters of the same EPS.

Q1 will not have BES10 and A10, plus what about BBM cross platform and BBM channels.

These are all things which have been confirmed for the next couple of quarters and are not speculative.

I am currently doing a turn around of my own at the moment, and you will be surprised how much you can get done when you have a well thought out strategic plan.

From what I have seen of BlackBerry, this is what they are doing. It is not a coincidence products are announced and launched when they are!

    All -
Been running on stealth mode while I've been out there looking for a gig lately... but:
Reminder, If you want $BBRY to run after ER Friday morning, you have to have buying funds available.
IMHO, I wouldn't sell BBRY at all to generate these funds, but I would sell other assets.
If the news is to your liking, then you have to show your support and BUY. No matter what the SP does at open...
Goes down, buying will lend support and drive it back up.- thus benefiting your existing BBRY investment.
Going up at open, then buying will drive it up further - laws of supply and demand - same benefit to your investment.
Available capital from other assets meant to buy BBRY on Friday will drive this SP up - if not all on Friday, then next week after the analysts get a chance to rate them higher once again.
In every case, you have to BUY on Friday... not sell. Unless this thing pops above $22, you shouldn't want to get out on Friday... IMHO

I see BBRY as a software/security/social play, the BES10, BBM Channels/Balance and BYOD security make this company a growth machine. I assign a much higher P/E ratio to a company that works with GM's of 80% so I can see the stock trading close to $ 30.00 without a short squeeze happening at all. This is all a 12 month projection so I would think we have some time to see where they take their business model here. We are different in our business model and underlying P/E for the success of that model. Good analysis, thanks.

I made the same mistake with my first purchase of RIMM when it was 45. I looked at the chart and figured 45 it would bounce and I scoop up a small profit, and it plunged. Lesson learned for me, let the stock prove to you that it is getting strength, then buy on the following dip. AAPL has not made a higher high in a while
