BlackBerry climbs
In case you missed it, shares of BlackBerry Ltd. have been staging something of an awesome comeback.
Short sellers haven’t missed it, seemingly sensing a change in the wind.
The stock has gained about 30 per cent this year, and is up again in premarket action to retake $10 (U.S.).
BlackBerry shares are still far below where they stood a year ago, by some 37 per cent, but clearly the smartphone maker’s new chief executive, John Chen, is making his mark.
Of late, BlackBerry stock has surged on brighter analyst reports, and a vote of confidence from the U.S. Defense Department.
And, as The Globe and Mail’s Sean Silcoff reports, the company unveiled plans late yesterday to sell the bulk of its Canadian real estate holdings, which analysts say could be worth more than $500-million.
Also, according to new numbers from Markit, the short positions in BlackBerry have fallen to 12 per cent of its stock from more than 20 per cent, Reuters reports.
Adding to the confidence is a move by Mr. Chen to snap up BlackBerry stock. According to information filed with regulators, he bought 25,000 shares on the open market on Jan. 13, at $8.25 each.
BlackBerry shares are up by about 2.5 per cent within 30 minutes of the Nasdaq open.
That 15 dollar target doesnt seem so off now lol. I think we could see 15 rather soon if the good news keeps coming out and we do have alot coming. BBM 2.0 , 10.2.1 , new phone
This is so much sweeter when you have stuck around for dark days at around 5 something, enjoy it guys, enjoy the moment!

Yes it is but i was lucky enough to double down at that point some of us did not have that option and are still under water. Where if you got in around 6 then you have doubled your money. So it is bitter sweet for some i think , they are glad to be getting there investment back but also know that they could have doubled it
Spin, spin, SPIN !!!
BlackBerry shares rally as short-sellers bail out | Reuters
SHORTS BAIL
BlackBerry, which was one of the most heavily shorted stocks last year, has also seen some of the pressure lifted, as short-sellers have unwound their positions in the face of the positive news flow.
Traders who sell securities "short" borrow shares and then sell them in the hope that the price will fall, so they can buy them back more cheaply, return them to the lender and pocket the difference.
Data from Markit, a financial information services company, indicates that the percentage of shares out on loan have fallen significantly.
The firm, which collects data from custodian banks that run lending programs on behalf of investors who sometimes put their holdings into such programs, notes that roughly half the shares available for borrowing are out on loan, down from about three-quarters six months ago, indicating a sharp decline in short-seller interest in the stock.
The number of short positions indicates that just over 12 percent of the company's shares outstanding are out on loan now, and that is down from over 22 percent six months ago.
"If there is any optimism in the company making a turnaround you are going to see the stock price rise, and certainly I think short-squeeze has been a factor in the last few weeks. There is some optimism that John Chen can turn the company around and I think that is being reflected in the stock," said Colello.
In a short squeeze scenario, bearish traders that sold the stock short are forced to buy shares to avoid big losses on their positions - something that only serves to work against short sellers and push a stock higher.
Citron Research, run by California-based investor Andrew Luck, who is better known for short-selling stocks, last week published a note stating that short-sellers in BlackBerry had it wrong. The firm praised the company's recent strategic direction leading to a bump in the stock on Friday.
Never look back and dwell at what you "could have" made on the market. You'll drive yourself nuts. Take it for what it is and look forward to what your potential can be :)

Yup...Woulda...Coulda...Shoulda....:talk-hand: Who cares, there are always opportunities in the stock market.
Bbry, for me, is back in the green from when I first invested 60 ish weeks ago, horizon looks beautiful!
*edit: and no, I am not done adding to my position
What do you guys think the short numbers look like at this point and do you think we will get to a point where close to all shorts will cover
There will always be shorts for any stock but if we get back to around 5% I'll be very surprised

I an not green until $14.90 so I have a ways to go but it is looking like I might reach my break even point sooner than later!
