Bullish stance:
My thoughts are that the early report will mitigate the 'lead balloon' effect that we saw with the stock price last report; a sort of "brace yourself!" campaign.
If we don't see a large whack to the SP at Months' end, we can safely say that this was a smart move.
Bearish stance:
The SP has to drop like a rock in order for the encumbant suitor to realise value. This plays off of Prem Watsa sandbagging a deal, so that he or other bidders can take-under part or all of BlackBerry at a large discount that could force existing holders out at a low price.
Note: Prem seems to be somewhat of a humanitarian, based on his history. However, he may be feeling massive pressure from Fairfax to position for the best return to his holders (logically so).
Either way, we will know in the next two weeks....

BlackBerry on why you should give BBM a chance (Q&A) | Mobile - CNET News
Q: Why is BlackBerry bringing BBM to Android and iOS again?
Bocking: When you look at the messaging world, it's clear there's no dominant player in the mobile messaging space. BBM is a trusted service, and one of the top requests of our users is to add support for Android and iOS. This allows our fans to engage with their friends on iOS and Android.
So I'm an iPhone or Android user. Why should I download BBM?
Bocking: For those who have used it, they all know why. If you look at BBM, it takes a different approach to messaging. Instead of linking to a phone, we use a unique identifier solely related to BBM. That privacy, as well as the immediacy that comes from the Ds and Rs (delivered and read notifications) that makes it feel like the most active real-time conversation.
The way our BBM user base is engaging in the product base, they're talking to people on a daily basis more so than on other messaging platforms. We're unlocking that engagement to a much larger base of users for that audience to speak with. We think that's just unprecedented.
How many people are on BBM now?
Bocking: It's still 60 million people (the same as when BlackBerry disclosed its BBM user base in May).
My friends used to use BBM, but have long since quit. How is BlackBerry going to get that "social" part of social networking going again?
It's unprecedented having 60 million people using the product regularly that will pull their connection into the fold. We've had well over 2 million people pre-register for access on day one. We've seen positive response leading up to the launch. That's an indication for what we've seen so far.

I think the quarter went better than I expected.
Don't start bashing me as a fanboy yet although I am long on BBRY I am more of an accounting type.
It appears that the competition has created some uncertainty in the ability to move the BB10 products through the channel and as such the accounting rules will no longer permit the use of sell in revenue recognition. Therefore if the company has recognized revenue in prior periods that are still in the channel they need to write down that revenue and switch to a sell through model. This is not optional.
It is not a good sign that there is increased uncertainty in the channel and I am sure the press will have fun with that but the company has no choice but to report in a way that reflects the current climate
Because 2.2 million phones were recognized at $430 per phone and those phones did not get into the hands of the end user you end up backing out roughly $950mm. Changing accounting methods suck.
The good news is that those phones are already sold and in the hands of end users and the write down should really be in last quarter not this one. So if you move the loss back a quarter and recast the situation you have a very positive story that aligns with the second phase of the company plans. It would have been great if the market would have provided more positive signs so that we didn't have to change the recognition method but it didn't.
I hope someone starts to tell the story with a little more clarity and people refocus on the fundamentals instead of all the hype. Maybe that is what the ER will do.

To look at this from a realist, they basically sold 3M phones over 2 quarters. That is horrendous.
I figure if you use SA for some articles, you should use them for ALL articles:
On Thursday I submitted an article entitled BlackBerry's Spiral Into Oblivion Is Accelerating, which was published Friday afternoon. Despite the flaming comments from die-hard BlackBerry (BBRY) longs, I was happy to have contributed another article to Seeking Alpha and was ready to take a short break for some light brain storming followed by serious research. Little did I know that less than 1 hour later, BlackBerry would issue a profit warning, punishing the stock by 17%, and that I would be back at my keyboard.
I am not here to take credit for "predicting" the massive layoffs and restructuring that will take place at BlackBerry in the coming months. I merely gathered those "predictions" based on credible sources and summed them up in the article. I am also not here to gloat about how I was right and the bulls were wrong. No. I don't like to lose money and I don't like to see others lose money. However, I have learned from my limited investing experience that falling in love with a particular stock is the most dangerous attribute for the common investor. In the end, numbers will triumph over sentiment, and hopefully some BBRY investors can realize that after today.
BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY): BlackBerry's Spiral Into Oblivion Is Accelerating - Epilogue - Seeking Alpha
Hypocritical indeed as you are cherry picking....have not seen you post a single postetive SA....ever. Enjoy your Sunday of casual bashing.

Shane, I've said all along that Seeking Alpha is a bad choice. Maybe I am being contrary, but I'm not bashing. It's not about the article itself. It's about looking at things from both sides. If someone accepts that SGOTI is a good source for financial advice, they should also listen to the person that disagrees.
But don't let that stop you from playing the martyr.
Selling alpha is just a talk forum you can find articles to support pretty much any position from the most negative to the most postive.

I feel like I'm at some religious cult with people trying to convince me that I must be saved.

Hi guys.
I believe everyone has now told what was his take about our or someone's past position or analysis. I skipped almost everything on that tune, because I believe we're too early in the news and need more step back before anything relevant can be exposed. Too much electricity in the air. And too much ego involved here. (Don't read me wrong it has been hard to stand muted.)
Thanks mods for cleaning this out.
I will write a piece about it (my position) later this week. I felt lucky to be almost out of touch during this weekend. Only thoughts were for people working at BlackBerry and suppliers. Heartbreaking to say the least.
Have a nice weekend end.
Cheers

Problem is we are going to get another writedown next quarter for unsold q10s, q5 and the z30 then people will have worked out that the announcement the other day was cleverly worded to hide the fact that they have quit hardware completely - largely because they need to try and sell the inventory before people work out what is actually happening.
The postive in the next quarter will be the spinoff of bbm which is sure to happen sooner rather than later.

I believe we all read those. Pos or neg.
It makes sense rather positives were quoted here, that's a bullish thread by nature.

no - you're at a religious cult where everyone is drinking the kool-aid and any outsider that says anything contrary to the cult is demonized and considered blasphemous.
Either I missed something or BlackBerry is not quitting hardware. They will still provide hardware, aimed to "prosumers" and enterprise. That's one very important point. Bought devices will remain maintained and softwares updated.
While there will probably no more "marketing" aimed to the consumers, those willing to keep BlackBerry as their preferred devices will be able to.

Both sides of what? Do you think people take that stuff literally and as gospel? It's fodder for discussion, that's it...this thread it supposed to be about supporting and discussing BlackBerry stock.
