Now let's make BlackBerry Travel and Calendar X-platform. They are the best.
The publicity alone probably worth the efforts.

I believe BlackBerry Travel is WorldMate on iOS and Android.

Globe says BlackBerry's BBM proves popular

    2013-10-24 07:52 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition BlackBerry's instant messaging app is a hit among Android and Apple smart phone users. The Globe's Sean Silcoff writes more than 10 million people signed up for the BlackBerry Messenger service in the first 24 hours after its release on Monday for non-BlackBerry users. The company says it is processing new users at a rate of 500,000 an hour, with millions more queued up. "We have absolutely incredible demand we're trying to manage," BlackBerry spokesman Jeff Gadway said. "We're off to a really good start." The rush for the new BBM app is a welcome moment BlackBerry. The millions of new BBM users are in addition to the 60 million already using the service on their BlackBerrys. The app is free, and other players have moved ahead of BlackBerry in the instant-messaging race. BBM was the first instant mesenger exclusively for mobile devices and became hugely popular and a driver of device sales in the late 2000s. Similar apps were developed, and some are now far more popular than BBM, including China's WeChat, Line from Japan and WhatsApp from the United States, each boast more than 200 million users. Canada's Kik Interactive has 90 million monthly users.

If BBRY is processing 500K/hour that's about 12M per day. My friend downloaded BBM last night and still hasn't received his email. So it would stand to reason that there are at least 6M people ahead of him as of this moment. Sounds like they're still sustaining the momentum but the question is for how long? How many of these people are downloading the app just to take a look and never use it again. I've done this myself plenty of times.

They still need to monetize this somehow, right now it's only increasing cost. This will not affect stock price until there's some hint of a way to make money on this.

Monetization will come in all different forms. BBM Money, BBM Music, Advertisements, BBM Channels are just ways I can think about off the top of my head. Maybe even a "premium" version that allows you to pay $0.99 a month for unlimited BBM video and voice calls?

They are building a user base and we know how fast BlackBerry moves at implementing new features. I'd give them 6 months before anything is added to the core BBM across platforms.

Yes. But these are ways that "we" can think of ways to monetize. Given BBRY management, the question still stands.

I used WorldMate on iOS before I got the Z10. I like the BB10 version much more

Great points and I would add that BBM-X is the best possible advertising for all things BlackBerry including their phones. Imagine you want a new phone, you just heard about BBM from all of your friends but you also learn that BBM for BlackBerry comes with voice and video, so you go have a look at the new Z30 and find out that BB 10.2 is an amazing piece of OS. All of this free advertising goes with the downloads. Now Enterprise can look at the advantages of using BBM-X cross platform BUT once again, if you have that new BB phone, you can do so much more in a secure way. The monetization of BBM-X has already started.

BlackBerry now has nothing else to focus on but BB 10.XXXX and BBM-X enhancements, I personally hope they start talking up video and voice, channels and any other short-term improvements for BBM-X while developing something "special" for native BlackBerry phones.

I am going to keep the HALO and pumped another 1500 into my "fun" account. Kind of breaks my own rules.... Will decide today if I buy 25 contracts either Dec or Jan 9 calls as a complete gamble....Either that or go to the casino and pick red or black...
Added more to BBRY at $8.16/share.
I might regret this at home. My wife has been telling me "you said a year ago that BB is worth at least $20/share, what happened?" (sarcastically)

I've been following BBM launch on twitter and #BBM is staying fairly constant at 6k tweets per hour. 24 hours a day. This is what I woke up to:

Good luck. Still debating. Last time I broke my rules BBRY it cost me $2,500. I posted here and said I wasn't getting in until it broke out above $18, it didn't, I got impatient and bought in at $15 and lost what I had made on previous BBRY gambles. Still a $1,000 gamble on some Dec $9 calls controls 2500 shares. A little pop above 10 before mid Dec and well...... If it doesn't materialize then you kiss your grand goodbye. My wife doesn't know about this little account.... Back to work....

Think it's safe to say BBM now has 100 million users across all platforms. Waiting for the press release to say 50 million downloads on iOS and Android alone.
Watsa will not let them say anything more. I expect silence.

I left twitterfall running and sure enough almost exactly two hours later it registered slightly more than 12k tweets. It's maintaining the 6k tweets per hour pace.

I have a goal of getting at least 100 additional friends to download it by end of the week!!
Well, Android store still says "5,000,000 to 10,000,000" downloads. Given that Android has a larger market-share, iOS downloads must also be below this range. So, it'd seem that downloads have either slowed down or we are under 20M downloads (overall). So, we are not quite at 100M total users yet.

Everyone, come on, get more people to download BBM! Just ask your friends to go to www.bbm.com from their phone's browser. It'd auto direct you to app download page for your particular phone's OS.

    Awesome!

I suspect the downloads are slowing down. Google Play is still showing 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 download range. I was hoping it'd have crossed 10M+ by now.

Hopefully, over coming weeks, BlackBerry would push out incremental app-updates with features (voice, video, in-line picture/video sharing in group chats, channels). This way, BBM would build new hype cycle as soon as current one starts to cycle down.

That kind of metric might be calculated nightly to reduce server load.

They need to get cloud hosted BES out ASAP. Companies now prefer to pay for hosted (infrastructure) and not worry about upgrades or hardware issures.
