Canada has unique problems esp for small companies to cover, with its geography and the distribution of its population.
We are definitely not playing in a level playing field...

You mention a 'farm system' but wasn't the Canadian industry a branch-plant economy during its best times? What does it have now if you remove mining and wheat and cattle and seals (just kidding)?
    Just a few examples.

    1. Aerospace (Bombardier).
    2. Mass transportation (Bombardier).
    3. Automotive (Magna)
    4. Forestry
    5. Fishery
    6. Film
    7. Communication (Bell invented the telephone, RIM invented the smart phone).
    8. Other transportation (Bombardier invented the snowmobile, seadoo, skiidoo, and CanAm motor trike).
    9. Oil.
    10. Intellectual capacity. Yeah, this is not a category and not easy to measure its impact, I am sitting here in the US and seeing a LOT of highly educated Canadians down here. LOL

You are right, for the most part we are a branch plant economy (by virtue of living beside a giant... Even if we weren't, it sure would seem like it due to the amount of foreign branding we are exposed to!) I meant farm system for intellectual property, natural resources, etc. If any foreign company or country (like China) can purchase any of our valuable resources at will, I'd consider us as a farm system economy... Simply making things ripe for others.

What does it have other than natural resources? On the surface, agree it seems few and far between but that's another conversation, lol!

Too funny, I was starting a list and had the same first 3! Magna was thinking of buying Chrysler at one point! I continued with Spar Aerospace (but that is in itself a case study), I decided this conversation would take this too OT, so I discarded.

Yeah, he was in the running for the 'hot guy spot' but I thought that Leslie Nielsen was funnier.

Edit: Re: Neve Campbell. Yeah she is was from Waterloo region I think. BlackBerry should hire her. Tag line: "Waterloo, home of hot stuff - including BlackBerry."

If you feel that 4.6 is a stupid valuation, why do you hope that PW takes it at that price? I don't get it.
Cos he is value investor, He knows that $9 is good deal and he will profit will be easy in coming years once BB is managed properly. Also he wants to profit on existing investment. Also by looking at recent developments including the way BB sold counting method, layoffs, timing looks that BOD is stuck and is looking at PW to close this chapter in the eyes of public and they can save their ***

For US friends, Labatt is like Budweiser in the US, except the Canadian water tastes better
