Blair has done a 360 in a very short period of time, Although I don't rate him as an analyst, his current position is pretty much my postion.

It seems as though they are making some ground on the ecosystem and I would imagine it will be easier with 10.2 and jellybean runtime.

As for patents, I agree it is always going contentious. There may be someone that really wants it or no one that wants it even at a discount.

I do believe that the BlackBerry patent portfolio has SOME value.

These are articles that are bought for clicks. You give a bunch of key words and for $5 per 400 words you get something that looks like that.

    360 or 180?

I agree, and I would have been somewhat okay if PW had said that. Somewhat, because he was actually on the board all that time, and they themselves are largely responsible for setting earnings expectations.

it is more that they don't need to meet Quarterly Earnings expectations by the market, no more stories about big misses or loss of sales that come with it.

Well, considering that a 360 would have him facing the same way as he did previously, I will at least accept 480 as a change of direction. . Carry on, then.

    His analysis made zero sense.
Severance expense 1.3B? never heard of that, just a joke.
Real estate assets: 1B? from 10Q
Land+Building alone is already 1.4B and actually the 10Q put big amortization(2.7B) here already, in reality, I believe waterloo area property values would be at least up 25% in the last 5 years, am I right?

    Did I miss something?

(Liking the $157 breakout clause in the Fairfax contract. It makes it look even more like the FairFax bid was meant to cushion the ER, ensuring that the stock price doesn't fall to far. Keep in mind that if the bottom ever fell out of the stock, there's no law preventing foreign corporations from initiating a hostile takeover of a Canadian company worth less than ~370 million.)

a good cushion plus a very smart move.
For example, if someone else bid at $10 later, he would actually get 10 + 3 = $13 per share.

if eventually nobody else showing up, he can just grab it at $9 and sell bbry piece by piece and he can still easily sell for around $12 per share even with a wash sale.

There have been a couple of people who seem to think that Canadian government rules are a good thing. That may be true, however, it's a bad thing for the BBRY share price because it scares away potential bidders who don't want politicians questioning their national interests. For example, if Google were to make a bid there would instantly be someone asking Canadian politicians whether they are comfortable with Google because of [the latest controversy].

Canada is a drop in the bucket for the world's superpowers. Without some regulations, there will be ongoing feeding frenzies that would render our industries/intellectual property as farm system to major league players.

In this case, us shareholders git the shaft treatment but I don't refute the idea behind it.

Personally, I think those rules have scared away some foreign bidders like Lenovo or other Asian firms. If there are rival bids, then it will be from American firms or private equity. They can use NAFTA rules to fight Investment Canada Act.

Stupid company gets $1b for buggy, suck products and BB gets $4.6 for products, services, real state, hardware, patens..so stupid valuation. Hopefully PW gets $ 9 and short covers which will take it to $12.

You mention a 'farm system' but wasn't the Canadian industry a branch-plant economy during its best times? What does it have now if you remove mining and wheat and cattle and seals (just kidding)?

If you feel that 4.6 is a stupid valuation, why do you hope that PW takes it at that price? I don't get it.

Unless they are stupid and act irrationally, they will never have to pay more than $9 to cover under the PW deal. There is sufficient volume and should be plenty of time for an orderly exit/cover, no squeeze would be triggered since everybody knows the $9 price. Other (not short) buyers won't have to pay more than $9 and no realistic Seller will ask more than $9 plus a very small premium.

Canada has unique problems esp for small companies to cover, with its geography and the distribution of its population.
