I don't get how your staying calm! lol isn't your average price in alot higher than this?! im freaking out man =(
    2 factors :
1/ This is a first bid and I believe some are going to test it. At a lower price than NOK, whatever metric -out of WS - it's more than tempting (almost wrote "a steal")
2/ Some short may have anticipated the trumpeted plunge and get involved in levels that will hurt.

Let's see until tomorrow how it goes. I believe this is the meaning of "stay calm": the stock is going nowhere but up to $9 until the deal is sealed.

Edit : $8.99 the time i wrote it. Damm Banker. But safe me ...

Please, I'm begging you to relax. This isn't the final bid, it is the first of many. We needed to stop the bleeding and Prem likes the price down here so he is averaging down at $ 9.00/shr for the takeout. Just because he offered $ 9.00 doesn't mean it is stuck at $ 9.00/shr.. Look at what MSFT paid for Nokia junk, we are talking about $ 2.1 Billion after cash is removed, or less than half of what Lenovo has in cash right now. Do you think you can buy Patents, Hardware, Security and the next generation of Security (EEC), the Dod and many other assets let alone BB 10 for $ 2.1 Billion? NO.

    I think I'll buy up every share I can around/below 9.00.

For us Canuks, we can always hope the american dollar will rise 40% (or 100%+) prior to November to bring up our BB.TO.

CNBC is calling it a take under. The only offer that they received in more than a year of being available. You should be watching CNBC right now.

Last weekend Apple sold 9 Million iPhones.

If you figure an average selling price of $500 per unit that is pretty much what BB is selling for.

This is what MSFT spends on a Saturday night bar tab....this is going to be very interesting over the coming weeks.
Oh well Ben ... you know ... sometimes ...
I already won a $70 bet that first offer was for going private ...
Now give me a "equity partner" deal with MSFT and wherever the stock goes, I've got some equivalent extras on 1/10 quote.

lcjr and CJCampbell where are you guys today? Would be nice to get your thoughts on this $9/share deal! Missing something without your comments.
Been watching from the sidelines as some posters are making their efforts to get this thread shut down. Biting my tongue to avoid getting another infraction due to my reactionary posts...lol

As for this, it's the first offer. When there are interested parties, someone has to make the first move and nobody wants to. They could worry about leaving money on the table. Now that the first bid is in, others know what the board will accept. I don't know if there are any others interested but this is a starting point. Prem and gang are, I'm sure, prepared to put in a better offer should others jump in. Even if nobody does, forgetting the price of the offer, I'm really glad for BlackBerry as a company as I think this is the only way they will be able to move forward and actually turn things around.

It isn't going to go much higher because anyone buying is working on the basis they are going to have spend money shutting down the hardware side before they break the company up for pieces. I am a little baffled the advice of the "let's ride this stock to $100" crowd are treated with anything but amusement.

Forget the consensus. Make your calculations and weight risks and rewards.
This situation is very, very tricky.
$9 should be cleared while I'm typing this though.

One big condition is that Fairfax has six weeks to conduct due diligence first. Doesn't Prem already know what's there? Is he going to find a skeleton to scare him off?

shareholders have to approve the deal with a vote. my guess is that they will get the vote and you all will be sold out of your shares at $9 each and it will be dead money until then. deal will probably close in 6-9 months. competing bidders? i think not. taking BB private is the only way Wasta can hope to minimize his disastrous investment in this dog. what's his cost basis? much higher than $9. my guess is he will take it private and hope to sell off all the parts for a few bucks more than the sum. there are no competing bids - you would have seen them by now - they shopped it and nobody wants it. now it's just a file sale for the scraps. $9/share is your top - lower if there's risk that the go private deal gets voted down. the handset business is officially toast. fire sale coming.
