I do not know and do not want to predict for the long term future of the company but as long as this goon is in charge there will be nothing positive coming out.
The only lifeline we can get right now is his resignation effective today !

Thorsten Heins gave a whole new meaning to "Epic Fail". The ones who hired him share the same responsibility of course !

well it seems that even after all the bad news, bad sales, bad results, BB themselves have raised the white flag and will be bowing out of consumer mass market hardware and focus on services. that's not really a vote of confidence for the retailers to waste time and space and resources on selling their devices. so i can only guess that they will begin reducing and/or removing all things BB from their physical stores. i do know that retail is pretty ruthless and vicious and competitive and they move things around quite a bit and products and displays disappear rapidly!
Yes retail can be vicious but blackberry is still around and selling products. Few years back I bought some stocks in mega brand, a company that had lots of debt and worse shape. That said, stores still carried a lot of their products and still placed orders. Now the company is doing better. I love taking risk in the markets, paid off so far.

He reminded me of kids that are always a pain a in the arse. They think that they are smart and witty, but my circle of friends refer to them as 'fleas on your balls" (coined by a Spanish friend). I haven't seen any for many years (as I now mostly interact with graduate students and more educated professionals), but I guess I shouldn't be surprise to see some on public forums.

Busy day for me today, I will miss most of what's going down. Have a good day guys.

Wow, Scotia Capital is still optimistic on takeover price:

    * Bad results made to seem worse through change in accounting policy. The company expects to deliver $1.6B in revenue and an EPS loss of around -$0.49. Street was looking for $3.0B and -$0.21. The company is not recognizing any BB10 devices in the quarter due to a change in accounting policy. Had these devices been recognized we believe sales would have been closer to $2.7B, loss of -$0.10 and 5.9M units.

    * Refocusing on enterprise and prosumer. The company plans to narrow its device portfolio to 4 from 6 devices and focus on the enterprise and prosumer markets. In the quarter the number of organizations testing BB10 grew to 25,000 from 18,000 in July.

    * Restructuring - eliminating 4,500 positions. The company plans to eliminate 4,500 positions, which when added to the terminations in this quarter is roughly 40% of its workforce.

    Recommendation
Maintain Sector Outperform. We expect some form of corporate transaction to occur that will benefit shareholders. We believe a takeout could occur at $13.20/share
Personally, I think outsiders, analysts, and other pundits truly don't know what's going on at BlackBerry right now. Hopefully the conference call will shed some light.

Here's comments this morning on Bloomberg:

Would Anyone Buy BlackBerry for Just $2 Billion?: Video - Bloomberg

BBRY has gone from lottery ticket ( on June 28th) to casino chip (on August 12th), and back to lottery ticket (on September 20th).

Please don't confuse speculative stock with investing. I have tried to warn people in the past.

CAT scans? More like security investigation. I said couple months back that this thing was starting to smell like nortel all over again.

Sounds unlikely but so did massive write-offs and the exit from the market...

Jim B. and Mike L. got caught once. $250 MM backdating stock option scandal. They settled with the OSC and SEC. Record settlement with the OSC ($80 MM). TH is Mike L.'s protege. Prem Watsa is reportedly Mike L.'s buddy. This is the backstory.

After somewhat disappointing Q, the board loads up $80 MM in executive compensation if management is ousted when there is change of control. The metrics cited are success on their CORE program (the job cutting) and success on ultra-low BB10 expectations. PW is not on the compensation committee. He then steps down and yet another "strategic review" is launched to investigate maximizing shareholder value. How is shareholder value maximized (vis-a-vis potential buy-out) with such a compensation scheme? This is the definition of a poison pill! Then this pre-ER release with a change of accounting practices with virtually all key components ($1B write-down, 40% jobs cut, leaked to the WSJ)...

I feel the shorts have nothing to do with any of the above...

I left a post here several months back because I didn't think the technical approach advocated by some was suitable for a highly speculative stock like BBRY. I think that insiders (connected through business relationships) know what is really going on and can quickly adjust before retail investors. Do you still believe in the technical approach for this stock?
