- "BlackBerry reported a 47% gain in the value of its inventory in the June quarter, bringing the figure to $887 million "
47% is bb10 devices , why the F would the write down around 400 million when they are bb10 devices. The other 50 percent or so is old bb7 devices which they are still selling. There will be no write down what so ever. I cant believe this crap these guys get away with09-19-13 11:41 AMLike 7 - That is a good analysis and it is why I like reading your posts Morgan.
You do not need to be a day trader to make money. Less is more and I initiate positions after researching the security in the expectation that it will run for weeks and months regardless of what asset class. It is very profitable and economical to look at your charts for 1 hour a day and to get on with the rest of your day.
I retired from my job working in professional services 7 years ago after working 16-18 hour days with no opportunity to spend quality time with my family, let alone do other stuff.
I work in the voluntary sector, unpaid, helping disabled people in many aspects of their lives, and find this so rewarding, much more so than sitting in front of a screen all day. The study of TA has allowed me to trade, giving me this privilege to work with disabled people that I would otherwise not have done so.
You must do what works best for you.
jfguay2,
Let's just examine this morning's trade. A non-believer in TA sees the stock meandering around here, a victim of its own actions, they attribute this negative opening to the credible news from the WS Enquirer that supersedes anything that TA driven investors can predict about the price of the stock going forward. Let you said, the news was baked into the price already, the stock did not rally as much as you would have liked, then came some ofter important news and the stock adjusted accordingly.
The TA person, grabs a coffee, or in CJ's case, a beer, and looks at the chart. They post a chart to the BB board stating that the support has been $ 10.20/shr for over a month and that investors tend to sell the stock when it makes a move above $ 11.00/shr.. They don't comment on what the stock will do today, rather they just set the "guidelines or range" for the stock and watch it open. When pressed, they think it is likely to test the lower range at some point in the day. So what happened?:
Attachment 203407
The stock tried to open up postively, it quickly sold off, hitting a low that was 3 cents above the TA guy's target, it then popped ever so briefly, then dropped to that same low again, this time it rallied quickly as there were more buyers than sellers. But along the way down, and along the way up, the stock did something strange, it sat at a level, for awhile, and just traded sideways. Strange isn't it? The stock decided to park itself at a price in two occasions, before continuing the rally back to even. To the non-believer it was time to refresh his/her coffee, to the TA guy/gal, it was time to buy the stock because he/she had just witnessed an "Inverse Head and Shoulders" formation with a clear drop in the stock forming the left shoulder, followed by the additional drop and test of the lows, and the subsequent rally to form the right shoulder. To the TA investor this was a BUY SIGNAL. There is a high probability now that the stock would go to a breakeven price immediately, followed by a rally to new highs. And so the chart that was posted described an entry point, something a non-believer would NEVER ever have the ability to do, it provided us with a change in trend, again, total news to the non-believer, and, it provided a safe entry point to buy the stock and turn a profit. The follow through to this rally is a pullback to resistance or the 20-ema breakout point ($ 10.46/shr) to test whether the rally can continue.
So who do you want to be, the person who points out the news of the past to inform the world where the stock is "sort of going", or the investor who studies what "real money" is doing and bases their trades accordingly? The chart of this morning's trade is very compelling whereas the comments from the non-believer investor really don't help you make money.
I would address one other thing that you said, the TA person is not well versed in the news, they aren't even likely to be able to tell you much about the company either, they spend their time looking at money flows and what investors are doing, not what the media or rumours are telling us today. If you listen to some of the top TA specialists in the world today, they only want to see the chart, they don't care what the company does for a living.
For the record, I have to believe in all aspects of the company itself, I have to like their product, want to use it and love their balance sheet. But when I'm siting at my desk and watching stocks hoping to make my wife a couple of grand, I only make use of TA for that purpose. I'm in it at lower levels, I don't care at all about earnings, nothing there for me. I'm only interested in two events, the FDA will pass judgment on their Phase III submission in October and their current studies. They have a killer pipeline, have you seen one like this before; and, they have the best research/cost program out there. If the FDA approves of their Phase III, they are profitable and cash rich.
I normally don't quote anything from SeekingAphla but this article is a good one:

Invest at your own risk, thinking in mind that October is an important month for this play.09-19-13 12:06 PMLike 0 - Sidhuk, where are you based out of - Canada? I work for a developer and my company is always looking for partners with sites to build hotels/multifamily.
edit: I may have already asked you this question a few months ago...
Land development. I don't buy land for just holding purpose. has to have a light at the end of the tunnel with in 3 years. helping my sons to just hold and prosper what we have. started selling real-estate then developing and construction. now just developing and contracting out the construction only if development profit is too low. played alberta boom. won and lost big time and learnt to fear the market and the loans to equity ratio.

M8. What do you think about the calls for Jan 2014. With the current SP trading at 4.20, 2.5 Strike with a premium of 2 seems like a reasonable buy?
Thanks

LoL. I think soon it will be time to upgrade your signature based on the size. "Is that aZ10"Z30" in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"09-19-13 12:17 PMLike 3 - That would be cutting it close but it works if the FDA reports on time, Oct 17th is the suggested date. I would consider those options when the time comes so remind me when you are about to move on them! GL09-19-13 12:18 PMLike 0

spread of Oct versus Jan premium are apart by 20 cents. So why something with a closer date?
Looks like those are all the available Option dates. so its either Oct, Jan or Apr.

Guys, we had a few extra stocks watched here and since they were few and occasional, it was really OK.
But - and let me first thank you, M+8 for your time and free advices - I think we are slipping in an area that is not accurate here.
I have concerns regarding some kind of "responsibility" of the contributors and maybe CB too. This may be understood as incentive (I for one am tempted) by newcomers or occasional readers.
I have no real suggestion to bring on the table ...
But let's say this is a super-duper-friendly reminder that the stock discussed here should remain BBRY for most, in order to stick to the topic.
Maybe a "Any stock alternative to balance my portfolio ?" thread ... oh, well ... I know this is a friendly place here and this is what ...
Ok, I shut up, you big boys got the story.
P.S: time to feed my 2 adorable "gazelles", see you later gang !09-19-13 12:35 PMLike 11 - (oh man, I hate to have to say that)

- This just came across my mind. There are 140 million smartphone users in the US. 50% of them are iPhone users. If BBM gets half of the iPhone users to install BBM, then that's 35 million users, which would bring the 70 million user base that have been limited to BB users only, to 100 million users.
