This quarter? It's already known that the q10 is underselling the Z10

Yup, this quarter...I put zero faith in the Canacord channel checks...the world is a big place

No offense, but I don't go into Walmarts. People there are creepy and nasty, at least the ones I did go into a few years ago. I would venture to say that Walmart shoppers couldn't tell you anything about electronics, especially phones unless you ask them about the free hand out phones from the government. Even then they'd just be able to tell you when they need/want something else free.

Man, you're just hearing about what's been going on for years. They already have everything on us. Google just got caught a few times doing what they've been doing for years now. Your Internet provider, phone company, and other public records institutions have been giving up your data for quite some time now.
10+ years in telecom industry, one of the largest incumbent in Canada. anyone that is naive to think that the provider isn't sharing your info already, will need a visit to the doctor.

Last one for tonight....If I'm off by more than 10% on my "guess" concerning shipped volumes (cuz that's all the info we are going to get) I will be somewhat shocked.

Populations where BlackBerry is now selling three BB10 devices:

    Europe: 739 mm
    S America: 387 mm
    N America: 528 mm
    Africa: 1.03 Billion
    Middle East: 360 mm
Asia (although limited launch): 4.14 Billion

Now I fully understand Canacord and their ilk have people reporting back from every single cell shop in every market (ya right) but....there are a ton of people in this world and I have a hard time believing selling 7.5 million devices in a population base of 7.18 Billion people is that big a deal.

Maybe I've had one too many?

It's a matter of processing power.

By using encryption, the need for processing power to crack the encryption rises.

If encrypted transmission of communications becomes ubiquitous, there is no technology available that will allow them to read globally encrypted communications in real time.

Precisely, specific monitoring are usually setup for a planned target. Encryptions might prevent real time monitoring, where processing power is required to decrypt. I'm not familiar with BBRY and how their network works or if it behaviour like VPN tunnels. Unless its VPN tunnel established all the way through, there will always be an entry point to sniff things out.

With that in mind, BBRY devices and their os is the best platform out there as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately, with mainstream audiences, this isn't usually the reason why they choose a platform over the other.

Doesn't mean BBRY can't survive as the best niche player and be the best choice for business and enterprise customers.

Here is a link to a video for a product that uses your heart beat as a bio-metric identifier to allows you to use the device as authentication in everything else you do. I thought I would share because this is pretty much exaclty what I envisioned the plan is for smartphones in general (BBs in particular) in the long run. I'm not sure about using your heartbeat as an identifier, but I do think all the features and functionality that they're showing in this concept video could easily be done with our phones.

What it does mean is that when BBRY's technology (in the form of BBMs) becomes ubiquitous, the PRISM program is over.

    Hello all,

Been a bit quite recently due to work, but have been keeping up to date with the thread.

My thoughts are, if 3 mil units was break even last quarter, and assuming marketing expenses have increased and blackberry are expecting to make a loss, you would expect that the sales figure should be around 3 - 3.5 mil for this quarter.

I think the figure of 7.5 mil is a bit optimistic, as this would surely show a massive profit? Sharredflag, i also expect that the Q10 and Q5 will get most of their interest from the corporates and as BES10 has only just got out there i dont think the large volume orders will be in the this quarter.

The only exception to this would be if Blackberry have low balled their estimates and completely knock it out of the park, which unfortunately i think is highly unlikely.

On the subject of the sale, i dont think they need it to survive, i think it is all media pressure. I can't see what fundamental problems they have at the moment, unless the sales have literally fallen off a cliff.

I think some joint ventures are to be expected, but that is the natural course of business, finding partners to collaborate with in a hyper competitive market is not something new.

I have been thinking about what i will do with my shares pre ER. I am going to wait until the 12th to see what this announcement is, i hope it is the 12th September. If the stock price gets back to 15.20 before ER (highly unlikely) which is my average on my account with most of the money, i will sell a large chunk, maybe 50% and keep my smaller account fully in.

I can then decided whether to buy back in after the ER. If it doesnt get there, i may still sell off again and then make my decision after. Let's see what the 12th has in store for us, and take it from there. As an aside, i think the product is good. I have side loaded 10.2 which is great. i think i will buy the Q10 for the battery life and keyboard, but the Z10 is a solid phone. BBMX looks good from what i have seen. I am not sure how BES10 stacks up but it must be competitive at the new price point with the reduction. None of the competition have really come up with a game changer yet, it is all iterations of what was before. These things all give me confidence in BBRY at least in the short term.

PS my guess is 3.2 mil units for the quarter

Median would be more interesting since those outlier estimates throw off the average. Some of the outliers may not even be serious guesses.
