Anyone spot the very careful bit of wording?
    "Authority to Operate (ATO)"

    and

"a critical step forward in the security certification process"

also "top-to-bottom security protocols" I find important. Hardware business cannot go away.

He is probably referring to the term "capacity to support". There is no promise regarding the actual size of the roll out, just upper limits.

Wow, you guys can ferret out the tiniest negative indication in any bit of news. Sheesh. I mean... good on you for careful reading.... but I can't see them building a system for up to 30,000 phones and only deploying 37.

So, let's say that they have capacity for 10,000 now but only roll out 5,000, then 15,000 by end of 2013 (half the numbers mentioned) , would that diminish the significance of the news?
The significance here is about BlackBerry being chosen first over all other devices, not the sales numbers.

Thanks. I have edited my post accordingly, and the argument still stands, I think.

Boy would I look stupid to build a 5 car capacity garage to put one car in it. Then I hire my contractor back and expand my garage capacity to 10, but only to put 2 cars in it. I would think I would at least be planning on purchasing 7 or 8 with a little wiggle room right?

Doesn't the fact they are architecting to support 10,000 BlackBerry 10 smartphones by this fall and 30,000 by the end of 2013 on DoD networks mean that they plan to purchase and add those devices? Why build an architecture to support an X number of devices if you aren't going to purchase them?

I understand being realistic and cautious with the news, but sometimes you gotta accept as something going forward that will benefit BBRY.

As positive as this news is, i'm not surprised! Blackberry = security, defense departments around the world should naturally migrate to BB10/BES10; win!

Give me some news I wasn't expecting, something related to BBM Channels and how the push towards social media can be monitized.

Couple days ago there was an article from TechCrunch. Check that out.

With the Canadian carriers reporting earnings today (Bell & Telus so far), i'd love to see if they offer any insight BB10 device sales.

Some positive sales in their home market woould be welcome.

    Using your logic:
That won't be surprising either, BBM = best messaging system, everyone around the world should naturally migrate to BBM, BBM channels, and BBM money.

Seems there are security holes everywhere.
Firefox is the exact same, shows your passwords, I sure hope Blackberry Passwords aren't stored in a .txt file in some deep nested file structure

With DISA developing the infrastructure to support BBRY 10 phones using BES10 do you think this means that BES10 will be the MDM solution for all other approved phones as well?
Doesn't make sense to me to develop multiple infrastructures.

Here is an idea (might be stupid since out of my field) , should BlackBerry make desktop BBM with a secured embedded browser?

They rarely mention the devices themselves. Shareholders don't care what sells as long as money is being made.

Sounds good but you are going to need to expand upon your thoughts. What are you envisioning once a user sits down at his computer?

And money they made. Can't believe those poor Canadian telcos will struggle and suffer if a foreign entrant comes to Canada.

Agreed. The real money is on the service contract. Getting the customer to pay for the phone is only gravy.
