So he's got multiple points in the pros yet only one in the cons and this is reason to "throw in the towel"?

Edit- nevermind. I had it in reader mode and didn't see there was a page 2.

And when investing in a turnaround situation, looking at past years financial stats is rather useless, we all know they stink but the question is what lies ahed IF they manage to turn it around.

The new buyer/owner can certainly loan those out and the Seller/shorter can certainly look for other shares. I think what MP8 pointed out is that it can be even worse. They have so many days (3?) to obtain shares so they are not "naked shorting" however as I understand it, if they move large blocks between accounts (say 100-400k at a time) EACH TIME they move them between accounts, they are able to restart the 3 day period and this can go on for a while???

MP8, is my understanding correct? Thx.

I'm sorry, but as investors, or potential investors, we have to be WAY beyond IF by now. If you haven't heard what you needed to, to make you comfortable that this is on the right track long-term, then you shouldn't be invested in this stock L/T.
The conclusion and story-line that this writer layed out here is so extremely bias to the downside, that it's only taken seriously because of his first line. Ok, so he says he's been bullish for a long time, but... But? We are 1Q into a turnaround, and it was a doozy - a positive Q when everyone expected a negative. And now the Q10 and Z10 are outselling various smartphone competitors - and this ISN'T a surprise to anyone? This is a HUGE surprise. Anyone spinning it as otherwise has to have some kind of hidden agenda. NO ONE in their right mind said that the Q10 would out-sell the GS4 or I5 at launch - UK, Canada, or in France (I'm sure it's the case in other places too). NO ONE.

Why throw in the towel now based on those reasons? He said he expects the pent up demand to carry them through a couple of quarters so why not at least wait until after the next ER? It smells like he got incentivized to write that headline.

So it has been mentioned here before that the shorts control the stock. Maybe I'm slacking in basic economics here but can someone explain how shorts with 1/3 of the float control 100% of the stock?

I don't think they do, however they do seem to go all-in, they are shorting stocks worth of $10 million per day on average, of course that can keep the stock from going up if they bulls are not that aggressive in buying. The problem for shorts is that the stocks doesn't go down enough considering how aggressive they are shorting, they need more longs to panic sell also.

Forgot to say good morning early birds. It's already 11:15 here in Germany and I'm about to head out to visit more family. Have to visit my nephew as well who just got a used Bold 9900. He's a young engineer student in a logistics field and wants to be like his American uncle (haha). You should have seen his eyes light up when I arrived in a suit and pulled out my 9930. He was checking his phone every 2 minutes. Haha. You guys have a fantastic day and I'll try to log on later on in the day.
So that's where you've been - Was starting to wonder where Icjr was . Enjoy sir!

Not everyone who owns the stock is selling...the price movements are based on the makeup of the volume for each day...
