Given this week hasn't turned out the way we had hoped it might, perhaps we may be on a track to sink for a couple of days, fall through the 50 dma briefly, and then rebound just as our RSI (10) hits the low 40s or high 30s. I hope that's all though. I don't feel like sinking into the low $14s high $13s at this stage.

    Is this deja vu? LOL

Here is where the money from BBM will come from....

Giving away BBM for free will still make money for company, BlackBerry says

ORLANDO, Fla. - BlackBerry says it will be able to make money off its BlackBerry Messenger service by opening it up to its rivals' smartphones.

One of the Waterloo, Ont.-based company's top developers said Wednesday that while BBM will be available to users on Apple's iPhone and Android operating systems for free, there are other ways to generate revenue.

"By opening it up to other platforms we're really listening to what our users have asked for," said Andrew Bocking, executive vice-president of software product management at BlackBerry.

"They want to be able to talk and communicate with their friends, family and colleagues ... regardless of what mobile device they use."

Where the profits will come from, Bocking said, is BBM Channels, a new platform that will serve as a marketing launchpad for businesses and celebrities. It will work like a combination of Facebook Pages and Twitter and allow BBM users to opt in and start to follow popular brands.

"What we are talking about is enabling and facilitating those brands and businesses to enable BBM users to follow them ... and those types of interactions would be paid-for interactions," he said.

Bocking used Starbucks as an example, suggesting the coffee chain could pitch special offers for coffee or other campaigns directly to interested customers.

Users could start following their favourite brands by scanning a BlackBerry "PIN" code on advertisements.

Other money-making plans are in the works, but too early to announce, he said.

The decision to launch a marketing side to BBM comes as advertisers look for new ways to grab eyeballs. Increasingly viewers record their TV shows on PVRs and skip the commercials and other traditional media has struggled to generate bigger advertising revenues.

Through direct marketing to phones, companies will be able to have a better idea who is seeing their offers and target their interested customers.

"Hyper-local mobile offers is really where we think the marketing and advertising business is going," Bocking said.

But direct marketing has its setbacks as BBM could risk launching its new service and turning it into a glorified junk mail folder for people who like to sign up for special offers, but rarely use them.

BlackBerry will be careful to place a wall between a BBM user's personal space and their other "brand communication" interests, Bocking said.

"We're being very deliberate in how we allow those businesses and brands to interact with the BBM community," he said.

BlackBerry doesn't want BBM Channels to conflict with personal chats in BBM, which he said will "remain pure and uncluttered."

BlackBerry plans to launch BBM on other mobile platforms sometime this summer, though it hasn't submitted its program for approval to either the iTunes or Google Play app stores yet.

Opening up BBM to other major operating systems has received a mixed response. Some suggested the company should've made the decision years ago, while others have said it removes one of the most appealing exclusive features of BlackBerry devices.

Executives at BlackBerry were divided over the future of BBM for months before they chose to go ahead with the plan, fuelled by the growing number of competitors on the market, including WhatsApp and Waterloo, Ont.-based Kik Messenger, both which are available on BlackBerry and other phones.

At the company's annual conference in Orlando the company showed off its wider selection of apps, after years of criticism that BlackBerry had been oblivious to their growing popularity on competitor's devices.

The BlackBerry World store now offers more than 120,000 apps, up from 70,000 on Jan. 30, with both Skype and synthesizer maker Moog being two of the latest big-name additions.

But other popular apps like Netflix and Instagram are still missing from the store, a factor that Alec Saunders, head of developer relations, said isn't as concerning as some would make it seem.

"The catalogue is pretty complete," he said, while acknowledging that some "major names" are still missing.

"Every single category we've got good coverage. So even if there isn't a specific application you might be looking for out of the gate, you can probably find a suitable substitute in our catalogue."

Getting relatively frustrated by BBRY's returns so far. I'm not one who got in at the super lowest point, but acquired some around the time of the Z10 launch. I had done some research and even bought a Z10 cause I thought it was a nice phone and it seemed like BBRY was on the right track. As I go through my monthly portfolio re-evaluation, I find BBRY under performing compared to just about everything else. Lots of news articles out there (bullish and bearish) and although I'm taking the bullish side, it just doesn't seem to move well. Sure it may be a long term play, but so is everything else I hold. The tepid market response and high level of volatility (with it's implied market manipulation) make me feel my money may be better invested elsewhere as I have no protection against the manipulation. I think I will hold on until the ER, but after that if, BBRY does not seem to make a solid move, I'm going to move my money into other companies.

Basically: Under performing relative to other companies, not certain about the future for the company, holding until ER then making major decision about my BBRY stake.

    Just wanted to share.

    David!,

You just provided a great argument for diversification my friend! I do feel for you when I hear of your entry point, but there are many investors who bought TSLA late this week, or AAPL in Sept., thinking the stock could only go up. God only knows what's in store for those two now. One is sinking fast and the other is sky-rocketing faster and none of us know where they will be in 6 months. It sounds as though you purchased a number of investments over a period of time .... and not all investments move in unison. Think of BBRY as that speculative stock that has the potential to double within the next year. You don't know when the initial drive will take hold but you are familiar with their products and vision and know that there are good reasons for a rally here. In the interim, you work with your other investments as they too will come to a point of exhaustion and likely to, at the very least, pause of possibly drop back from here.

BlackBerry is unique, they didn't have a competitive product until February of this year, many thought they wouldn't make it past this year, and still others thought it was "too little too late" for them to ever succeed. You thought differently and now you have to see it though. I can't predict the future of this company, simply because I don't sit on the board, so, like the rest of us, I'm not privy to inside information. But all of those market driving details are coming out in the quarters ahead and we might see some surprising results.

Hang in there as long as you can, look for something that suits your investment style better if you need to along the way, but keep an eye on this one and see if it plays out the way you envisioned it would. I can tell you, 95% of the investors on this board forget the very problem that you talk about today, as soon as it starts to rally. The stock is shaping up to be a winner so lets hope you are still in it when that day comes! GL

    Interesting read...

BlackBerry Live: How BES 10.1 scores over BES 10.

    by CNME Staff - May 15th, 2013

The Enterprise Update session of BlackBerry Live gave the participants a chance to know in detail how the BlackBerry Enterprise System (BES) 10.1 scores over BES 10.

So what exactly is new with BES 10.1? Four important features stand out, which make this enterprise system a whole new ball game.

Regulated level enterprise mobility option, single server deployment, high availability and new reporting and dashboard make BES 10.1 beat the competition.

For instance, dashboard reporting provides a unified view of key metrics for the customer’s entire fleet of BlackBerry, iOS and Android. Also if you are a small company and need only one server, then this ES is for you. There is also no need to open additional ports as it works on the same footprint as existing BES.

Talking about high availability the speakers highlighted that in the event of a failure of an individual BES 10 within a primary server, a secondary standby BES 10 server will take over ensuring continued service for end users.

BES 10.1 will be launched as a cloud server this summer. As a result of this there will be a single web console for multiples device management.

Another feature that was highlighted during the session was the ActiveSync. BlackBerry is often asked – why ActiveSync?

The reasons answer the question perfectly. First, it’s easy for the IT. Second, it’s a simple and right solution when a company doesn’t have advanced security needs. Third, it’s very easy for a user to handle ActiveSync and it is the simplest way to give BB 10 users access to corporate mail and PIM.

BlackBerry also unveiled BlackBerry Enterprise Instant Messaging (Enterprise IM) 3.0, a free update of the company’s enterprise instant messaging solution, enabling customers with BlackBerry 10 smartphones to securely communicate over Microsoft Lync, Microsoft Office Communication Server or IBM Lotus Sametime.

BlackBerry Enterprise IM 3.0 works with BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 version 10.1, BlackBerry’s multi-platform enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution, and BlackBerry 10 smartphones to protect communications by encrypting data from end-to-end.

Andrew Short, manager and Jeff Kuckelman, senior solution development manager further added to this and told us that Enterprise IM brings all our communication together in the BB hub.

Gregg Ostrowksi, Senior Director, Enterprise Development, took the stage and remarked on how with BB 10, BlackBerry changed the way they build applications and highlighted four pillar for enterprise apps developersl; connectivity- built in VPN, standard based development platform, notifications push; and application management.

BlackBerry Live: How BES 10.1 scores over BES 10. | Information & Technology News, Analysis, Insights, Middle East

According to Ostrowksi, developers have to think about the BlackBerry platform in this way when they decide to build an app.

Yes, but not guaranteed. Every stock reacts differently based on numerous factors. But yes, it is possible and in fact most of us here are hoping that happens, but not holding our breath.

Okay guys, I have the beta software downloaded and loaded onto my Z10. Is there supposed to be an application icon somewhere?

I have Windows 8, so i don't know if that facks things up or not...

Nope...your good, ensure your BlackBerry is plugged into the computer while you download from BlackBerry beta Zone...it tells you to unplug when finished.

If you did not do this un install and redo with the device plugged in...

Let me know if it is worth the trouble. I don't really want to load beta apps.
