So what do you get now? Mine is a bit hard to explain but I want to quit and start my own business.
I don't even know. I'm pretty much expecting them to eliminate it or buy us out before I retire .... in 20+ years.

I get a much smaller pension because I started before they eliminated it altogether. People that starting getting hired a few years after I got hired don't have one. Just a 401K. But for me, I get a 401K plus a little extra.

My wife is a teacher so thankfully I think she has a pension.

Nokia remains mobile market leader in UAE
BlackBerry and Samsung on equal war footing as Apple gains ground
    By Staff
    Published Monday, May 13, 2013
Finnish electronics giant Nokia maintained its position as the dominant mobile phone market leader in the UAE, controlling nearly half the market in the second largest Arab economy, despite massive gains by smart phone makers.

Although Nokia’s share is far below its level a decade ago, the company remained by far the largest mobile phone supplier to the UAE which is one of the fastest growing cellphone markets in the world mainly due to its high per capita income.

Official data showed Nokia, which accounted for nearly a third of the global mobile phone market in 2012, controls around 50 per cent of the mobile handsets used in the UAE, far above the share of all other major mobile handset makers.

The figures by the Telecommunications Authority (TRA) showed Nokia, BlackBerry manufacturer RIM of Canada, Apple (IPhone) and South Korea’s Samsung have been involved in a tough war to grab a bigger share the market in the UAE, which also has one of the world’s highest mobile phone penetration ratios at around 170 per cent.

In a rare report, TRA said Samsung and BlackBerry were on equal footing, controlling 10.7 per cent each, following Apple with a market share of 8.4 per cent. Sony Ericsson appeared to be losing ground as it share has shrunk to only around 1.5 per cent after the Swedish giant was one of the UAE market leaders along with the US’s Motorola.

“A few years ago, the mobile phone market scene in the UAE was quite different… Nokia controlled nearly two thirds of the market while Motorola and Sony Ericsson came on its heels…Samsung’s share has seesawed over the years while BlackBerry and virtually did not exist,” a market analyst said.

Another interesting fact revealed by the TRA report is that Nokia’s budget phone 1,280 is the most popular handset in the UAE, accounting for nearly 3.08 per cent of all mobile handsets registered on the authorised networks in the country.

It was followed by iPhone 4S (2.93%), Nokia X1-01 (2.9%), Nokia E5 (2.61%), iPhone 4 (2.58%) and the Samsung SIII (2.11%), according to the report.

As for smartphones, iPhone 4S emerged as the most popular handset, followed by iPhone 4, Samsung SIII, iPhone 5, BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Bold 9780.

The report also showed that the most commonly used mobile phone operating system in the UAE is currently Symbian with around 50% market share, followed by iOS (13.8%), BlackBerry (10.7%) and Android (10.4%).

“The report provides an interesting snapshot of the UAE’s mobile telephone market share which has very distinct characteristics in terms of consumer adoption. It also reflects a dynamic ecosystem in which both feature phones and smartphones are emerging as the future growth engines of the telecommunications industry,” TRA Director General Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim said.

“The TRA continuously monitors the telecommunications landscape in the UAE, and a core function of our role is to keep consumers informed about the state of the market. We view the public as genuine stakeholders in our mission to become one of the most advanced technology hubs in the world. Studies like this are therefore very valuable and it is our intention to continue to provide industry insights as much as possible.”

At the end of 2012, the UAE had 13.77 million GDM subscribers, making it among the countries having the highest mobile phone users relative to its population.

Etisalat, the oldest GSM service provider in the UAE, had just over seven million subscribers while the rest is controlled by du.

We are in the same boat my friend. It's just good to talk amongst friends now and then to discuss plans and frustrations. I'm so happy we have this forum.
    you
Yeah, I've been reading this forum for 6 months but only recently posted. It seems like I'm on a roll the last 10 or so stocks I picked have gone up including the ones I've shorted lol. My big winner is a small company called Highliner, I bought at 9 and sold at 27 to make my first purchase of bbry at 10. I'm certain lightning will strike twice, just when,, when,..hmmm.

I guess you should know that I bow to you, as the founder of this thread; I have the upmost respect for what you have created. I'm also embarrassed by your comments, as I am literally stealing great information from the members, as I type. I was reluctant to join the thread until I realized that there are some really brilliant people here and I could learn from them. I simply try to fill in where I think I might provide some colour. Do your best to keep this thread a going concern my friend, at least until we enjoy that $ 100 party!
    MorganPlus8 !

My "job" is only now to try to keep that amazing contributions amount we have here, and the friendly & fun spirit
I sometimes feel very noobish regarding all the skills some of you have, so that I post rarely my thoughts - BTW, they didn't change from day one: I'm looooong, counting in quarters even in years and my confidence is growing every day.
You certainly can count me in for the $100 party, anywhere ! Yet we have a closer event to celebrate, probably by the end of the week : the 1K+ page of this thread ... I can't believe that crazy thread will finally hit that number; that's more efficient than any 8ball to forecast the future IMHO : great !!!

    Cheers and thanks again

BlackBerry And Carl Icahn: Time For A Short Squeeze? - Seeking Alpha

"As soon as there is verifiable evidence of a "story" behind BlackBerry (although I would argue that there is a pretty clear one in place now that needs to just play out), I could see Icahn taking a stake in this stock. It's debt-free, cash-rich, and is heavily shorted. Icahn knows that he could make a killing off of such a scenario, and he has done this sort of thing many times in the past."

    Good morning Greg,

Very quiet. No trades yet in the PM.

I'm hoping for a little dip this morning before I scoop some more.

I hope that the service outage over the weekend doesn't do any damage today.

I think BB will be glad when they get rid of BIS as when it goes down, it causes bad press. Seems to happen more than it used to which is strange as they used to have WAY more people on BIS.

My wife and I each have a Roth-IRA. We try to fund it every year but it doesn't always happen.

So long as our mortgage is paid off, I am not to worried about retirement. Under that scenario, I expect to vacation alot.
