So just cause I want to add some specualtion, what if the R10 leaks coming out are from a Chinese hardware manufacturer and not BlackBerry?

I know they all had the prominent "BlackBerry" branding, but all the previous leaks for devices usually came from a Vietnamese source.

Maybe one of the anouncements next week?

You're not the only one that's noticed that. I doubt any announcement will be made as to the hardware yet. In fact, I'm not sure how i'd feel about that anyway.

I think perhaps we need to see the entire Mobile Computing paradigm they are envisioning...it will take some time to grow that and see what kind of traction it gets. BB is the only player with a worldwide secure NOC and the only player with an OS that turns your computer into your own private cloud...seems pretty compelling to me.

I really believe it will change the market but unfortunately it will take time and proven sales / market share growth to accomplish.

This is why they gave the z a headstart or it could have been bad that way. It was a good move IMHO.

I hope that the Q10 isn't cannibalizing the Z10.

There have been some mixed messages from Thor since the initial launch of the BB10 about his sales expectations of the Z10 and Q10. I believe that initially he expected the Z10 sales to vastly outperform those of the Q10 but now he says the opposite.

What if...

That is part of the reason that BlackBerry hasn't given Bridge the full functionality on BB10 with the playbook? Sorry for the specualtion in the thread, but in the end it ties into SP.

There was a bit of backlash from carriers when bridge was introduced as it gave users the abiliy to use another device on the network at no charge.

What if they're waiting for good sell through and having enough devices in the hands of users to "Unleash the Beast" What if BB10 on the playbook, is the first start or introduction of Mobile Computing, thru a simple Bluetooth connection, your Playbook becomes your Q10/Z10, the introduction of the "Root device" and peripherals. yeah probably not, but hey...

BlackBerry Live is Happening in One Week!

A year ago this week, BlackBerry (then still Research in Motion) was presenting at BlackBerry World showing off their plans for the launch of BlackBerry 10. Now that it has been a year later and BlackBerry 10 is actually on store shelves, I thought that it would be interesting to see how the announcements at last year’s BlackBerry 10 have played out.

Time-shift Camera

Not only has the time shift camera been working wonderfully on all BlackBerry 10 phones since the launch of the Dev Alpha B, all of the critics who assume that Apple and others would copied the feature before BlackBerry 1o launched proved to be wrong. A year later this remains one of the highlight features of the new BlackBerry phones.

BlackBerry Balance

This has been a well accepted feature, but due to the fact that BES 10 hasn’t yet been launched, it isn’t actually available to anyone yet. To be fair, BES 10 is widely expected to formally launch next week at BlackBerry Live, but it would have been nicer if this feature had been available on BlackBerry 10 from day one.

App Demos

During the keynote BlackBerry showed off a number of app demos including apps like Pacemaker, Galaxy on Fire, Citrix, Occipital. These apps have all since been released on BlackBerry 10. However, a year later this seems like a very odd list of apps for BlackBerry to have shown off. With the exception of the Pacemaker DJ app, none of the rest of these are exclusive to BlackBerry. Furthermore a quick visit to the websites for Galaxy on Fire and Occipital reveal that they have actually excluded the BlackBerry World store from their list of places to download their apps.

QNX in Cars

For a few years now BlackBerry takes a moment in their keynotes to put forth the possibility of having their QNX platform running apps in cars. Despite re-announcing this idea every few months BlackBerry still appears to be no closer to offering an API or app store for cars, and as such it all seems a bit irrelevant. Expect the pattern to repeat again next week at BlackBerry Live.

Alec Saunders’ First Music Video

Last year at BlackBerry World Alec Saunders preformed a (modified) rendition of Tom Petty’s “The Waiting”. Unlike the next two music video, this one never made it to YouTube and most people still don’t know about it. A year later the joke has been played out, and Saunders’ has announced that the band is done with.

Dev Alpha Program

BlackBerry World was also the start of the widely successful Dev Alpha program that gave developers actual hardware to test their apps on many months prior to the release of BlackBerry 10. This is a big part of the reason why BlackBerry 10 was able to launch with so many apps already available on day one. While (post-launch) the program is now wrapping up, BlackBerry recently offered Developers the DevAlpha C to test out apps prior to the launch of the Q10.

Trade-in program

As an add on to the Dev Alpha program, BlackBerry offered the option to turn in the developer units for actual hardware once BlackBerry 10 launched. Despite being well intentioned, this program has pretty much been a disaster. Developers were first told that instead of being able to get devices right away that they would have to wait 6-8 weeks instead. And now 14 weeks later many developers (including myself) are still waiting for BlackBerry to make good on their offer. The delay has gotten so bad that many developers would have been better off if BlackBerry had never promised anything to begin with.

$10,000 Guarantee

While at first glance this guarantee seemed as if it would benefit developers, once the program actually went into practice it seems unlikely that this offer has actually been made to more than 20 devs. Through a combination of terms and conditions, and tying the offer to the very broken Built for BlackBerry program, the number of developers to actually be helped by this gurantee is extremely minimal. Unfortunately despite the actual conditions, the stigma that BlackBerry has to pay out cash in order to get any developers still endures.

BlackBerry Keyboard

BlackBerry also used their event last year to offer a preview of the new flick typing that is possible on the BlackBerry 10 keyboard. Now that the keyboard has actually been released, it has received very positive reviews and is generally considered to be one of the better virtual keyboards available. At the time however, many noted that the keynote included on mention of a physical keyboard and felt as if a device like the Q10 would never be released. Of course that phone has now been released in almost every country (except for the one it was announced in).

I don't think we will have to wait that long, the June ER should move us up nicely, and september should

BlackBerry (BBRY) R10 Rumors Light Up Internet
Rumors Monday on the BlackBerry (NASDAQ: BBRY) vine suggest the company could release a low-cost version of the Q10 shortly named the R10. The rumors were so strong that the term 'BlackBerry R10' was a Top 10 trending topic on Twitter Monday morning.

According to the specs, noted by Engaget citing DGtle, the smartphone will offer the same 3.1-inch screen size and 2GB of RAM as the Q10 but will have a smaller 5-megapixel camera, less storage and a smaller battery.

While nothing may come of the rumors, Engaget said the company could unveil the product as soon as next week's (May 14-16) BlackBerry Live conference.

Shares of BlackBerry are indicated 0.45% to $15.70 higher in pre-open trading Monday.

Well loaded the leaked 10.1 on my z10 today... loving it so far! Oh also picked up more shares. BlackBerry, to me at least, is about the only stock I wanna buy in this market. Things are starting to get too pricey for my taste. Between our Fairfax holdings and BlackBerry, I'd say about 70% of my net worth is involved.

The pictures are from a Chinese site, dgtle.com. It would make sense that the phone characters wouldn't be Vietnamese.

Wish these analysts reports would have to state their winning percentage or something like that as a disclaimer. Something like this is what I was thinking: 'Michael Walkely at Cannaccord, the butthole with a woeful track record that included such whoppers as claiming the Z10 would sell 300000 units last quarter (they sold a million) and surprising still has his job even though his net return this year is negative so far in a bull market.' If you still care what this troll thinks by all means keep reading...

This is why allowing short trades is anti-free markets . Almost 33% of blackberry shares are shorted 165,000,000 shorted. The number tells me apple and or google maybe involved using different hedge funds. IMO it seems obvious that they can ont beat BB10. The only weapon is propaganda (media/paid off analysts) and manipulation (shorting).

Apple has no interest in shorting BBRY. Google doesn't either. That would be like the Leafs worrying about junior hockey here in MA. The size and cash positions are just too disparate. The boards would never approve such a potentially embarrassing scheme. Daytraders and hedge funds, definitely. I would never short, but its part of a free market, warts and all. I'll take that over a price regulated market.
