Hope that wasn't me. I'm not worried about the number of apps. I only have a few that I need and use. Lots of room on my 9930. I just wasn't understanding the different apps for different devices. Seemed to me one app should work on all BB10 devices, but I was shown otherwise.
Oh gosh no, the only thing that I'm pissed with is your constant weather updates lol. And sipping on cocktails overlooking the pool? And your quick dips lol. Oh stop!! I am SO sick of the cold and snow and rain here. If you could package up some of your El Paso heat and send it our way, it'd be much appreciated! I know you don't like it there but Texas is one of my favourite places and I'm soooooo jealous.

Back on point...I share yours and most everyone's thoughts on having and maintaining just a handful or 2 of meaningful apps that are generally daily users. Big difference between this and the irritating "number of apps available" discussions. Today's discussions specific to the Q were interesting and along with Crackberry Adam's OS update and features review, it helped me decide which 10 was for me (I've had time cause my workplace doesn't switch over to BES10 till May). Just smelled that the talk could go sideways and didn't want us giving those POS media vultures any ammunition. I'm sure they scan Crackberry once in awhile and I bet this fantastic thread is one of their main stops.

Now get back to your patio brother. Must have cooled down to.....what.....75 or so by now? Don't answer!!!

Yeah, its a known Sony thing. Only sony devices are fully compatible with each other... they have their own flavour of DLNA or incomplete implementation or something like that.
Didn't know that, I can play just about anything from my z10 to my ps3... Ok, not mkv's, but for those I use my htpc anyway ;-)

It's hard to disagree with anything you're pointing out... But at the same time, the Q10 is likely to appeal to governments and enterprises (and the 'power user')... Where the app gap isn't too important. What's more important is how solid a performer the Q10 is (doesn't freeze, doesn't require battery pulls, and can browse the internet with the best of them...and upwards from there).

In the heavy use environments, i think the QWERTY design just lends itself better than all glass designs... By nature, physical keyboard is a more rugged design. I work in the major appliance business and for clothes washers and dryers, it took us *years* to switch from mechanical timers/knobs to full digital touch pads. There is still a great deal of people that want that tactile feedback. There is still a healthy appetite for knobs and physical keys, imo. This group knows that BB offers the best keyboard experience, bar none... So BB has them locked in, with or without heavy marketing.
I was looking at Google Trends, and the Q10 was getting about 40% of the Z10's search volumes (higher at 40-60% in Western Europe and North American countries) during the launch presentation day.

For consumers, you're looking at general interest in the Q10 probably being about 40-ish% of the Z10. However, as you mentioned, the limited competition in QWERTY phones probably means that the conversion rate from general interest to purchase is likely to be higher than the Z10.

And the government / enterprise factor is likely to not be fully captured by search volumes. One search probably translates into a fraction of a sale for a Z10, while Q10 searches by government / enterprise decision makers may result in hundreds/thousands of units being sold later on.

So the Q10 should sell at least 40% of the Z10, but the higher conversion rates and business/government appeal could push that significantly higher.

Good morning friends, I'm hoping we all have a productive day today. If I might throw out a word of caution, one of our good friends in Germany posted on her FB page that while she was sleeping last night she made several high dollar purchases until her bank account was emptied. She's already talked to the bank but this serves as a reminder for us to double check our security measures today. Don't think it matters what brand of phone or tablet she uses really.

And I'm going to put on my nationalist hat again and ask why the DoD wouldn't want to maintain even greater oversight of an MDM solution by keeping the development, physical manufacture and systems infrastructure all within the confines of North America?

Precisely why I check my accounts quite frequently. Have never had any issues until yesterday actually. When I checked in, I saw a "loan payment" for $200 came out earlier in the week. It was taken care of and discovered that it was another bank that apparently submitted an error in account numbers.

In fact, I'm looking on-line trying to decide what hot rod project I want to get this summer. You can check it out on el paso Craigs list if you doubt me, but classic cars and trucks here are dirt cheap. I want to buy one for under 3000, fix it up and resell it somewhere else for a few grand more. Good way to make extra cash.
VW Karaman Ghia convertible. Awesome lines, affordable and parts are usually interchangeable with the original VW beetle and easy and cheap to find. Very easy to work on too. Not a true hotrod in the traditional sense, and a little lowbrow for some, but the lines are, IMHO, very cool and for the $$ they are great project cars, esp if you can get a rust free start as I suspect you can out there. It is a little addictive but the price/resale/fun ratio beats any other hobby I have found. Don't ask me how I know.

agreed, they should be announcing about 2 or 3 weeks in advance, and if it is to release in april, it needs to happen soon. Any idea if this rollout will be nearly as staggered as the Z10's?

This stock should be trading much higher, hopefully we will see some news this week that causes it to do so. a release schedule for the Q10 that is a little more tight then the Z10 (ie: not a month between canada and US releases) could throw us up to $16 on the same day, followed by some bearish insights about "the Z10's mediocre launch" to wrangle it back into the $15s

I think it hits stores in May. The UK is the first to get the Q10 from what I have heard and that won't be until the end of April.

I'm just waiting for more SP upgrades. The Globe and Mail has stated the following:

Analysts’ ratings: There were nine buys, 15 holds and 21 sells, according to Bloomberg data. Target prices ranged from $5.07 a share as estimated by Berenberg Bank analyst Adnann Ahmad, to $22.35 by Scotia Capital Markets analyst Gus Papageorgiou.

As you can see, it's all over the place. I think until there is a general consensus that BB should be in the $20 range, we won't see a significant bump. Also, I am waiting for more news on their marketing campaigns. They are really pushing themselves this quarter with significant sponsorships, which is important. They need more than Alicia Keys if they want to persuade the US. In terms of Canada, the other day I was watching Sportsnet and Blackberry has their own booth where the anchors talk about the world of sports (I think it's called the Blackberry room, or something like that. Its a desk with a giant Blackberry logo, which is a great marketing tactic).

Barclays Center :: Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets Team with BalckBerry in a Sponsorship Alliance I've said this time and time again, if Jay-Z can latch on to this, Blackberry will get a huge boost (he has a small stake in the Nets)

A Glimpse of 30 Ways QNX Touches Your Life

Mike Lazaridis never fails to point out in recent interviews that practically everybody is using QNX and just doesnt know it. Luis did some digging and came across a nice list on QNXs website that they published for their 30th anniversary back in June of last year. Keep in mind this list is about 6 months old and was put out only a few months after RIMs acquisition in April of 2010. Still I kind of get a kick out of the fact that RIM now owns the backbone software for many critical services we all rely on. Personally my favorite is the fct that OnStar is based on QNX but now I am kind of wondering if the LASIK surgery I did two years ago was using a QNX system.

So what are you waiting for check out the list below:

People encounter QNX technology every day when they:

1.Use Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube QNX technology provides the software foundation for the worlds highest-capacity routers, which handle the data, voice, and video traffic for hundreds of millions of Internet users every day.
2.Flip a light switch QNX technology controls thousands of power-generation systems worldwide, from wind turbines to nuclear stations to hydroelectric plants.
3.Call for help By leveraging the unmatched reliability of QNX technology, 9 1 1 dispatch systems deliver emergency assistance 24/7, nonstop.
4.Call for help on the road The QNX-based OnStar system, deployed in dozens of car models, automatically calls for help in a crash and can even provide emergency responders with the cars exact location.
5.Use green energy QNX-based power-grid simulators help utilities integrate electricity from solar panels, wind farms, and other renewable energy sources.
6.Save gas QNX-based traffic control systems reduce fuel consumption by optimizing traffic flow, minimizing traffic jams, and reducing waits at intersections.
7.Eat a jelly donut QNX-based food inspection systems detect dangerous contaminants and can even spot items with missing ingredients, such as jelly donuts that have no jelly.
8.Get a caffeine fix Car navigation systems based on QNX technology not only provide automatic route selection and turn-by-turn directions, but can even track down the nearest coffee shop if youre thirsting for a latt.
9.Shop online Online retailers like Amazon.com and Avnet rely on QNX-based warehouse automation systems to move massive amounts of merchandise every day.
10.Watch TV QNX technology keeps couch potatoes happy, controlling television stations, delivering cable signals, and even powering universal remotes.
11.Watch an action flick QNX technology powers motion-control systems that create some of Hollywoods most spectacular special effects and stunts.
12.Take a train From high-speed trains to subway cars, QNX-based systems go the distance, controlling locomotives and coordinating railway traffic.
13.Fly in a plane QNX technology is at the core of pilot-training simulators and air-traffic control systems worldwide.
14.Board a boat QNX-based navigation and radar systems keep cruise ships on course by helping crews navigate through fog, bad weather, and narrow estuaries.
15.Buy shoes Footwear vendors like ASICS and Brown Shoe rely on QNX-based warehouse systems to move their products from the factory floor to the shoe store.
16.Keep cool in the checkout line QNX technology controls the HVAC systems in many of the biggest big-box stores in North America.
17.Stay connected while driving Using innovative QNX software, car infotainment systems connect seamlessly to Bluetooth phones, MP3 players, USB sticks, and a variety of other devices and services.
18.Build a sundeck Using QNX-based machine-vision systems, sawmill operators extract the maximum amount of lumber from every tree.
19.Mail a letter QNX technology helps mail-sorting machines push the performance envelope, processing up to 40,000 letters per hour.
20.Visit the doctor QNX technology brings reliability to a host of diagnostic devices, including ECG machines, angiography systems, cardiac monitors, and bone density analyzers.
21.Take medicine QNX-based vision systems scan for defects in a variety of manufactured products, from pharmaceutical blister packs to the lids of peanut butter jars.
22.Get better QNX-based cancer treatment devices use proton beams to target tumors precisely, without damaging nearby organs.
23.Wash socks A QNX-based system automatically configures control panels for washing machines and tests each panel to make sure it functions correctly.
24.Breathe clean air QNX-based building-automation systems help factories, universities, and other large facilities slash power consumption by up to 50%, reducing the amount of fossil fuels burned for electricity.
25.Go to college Students and professors worldwide use QNX technology to perform medical research, explore new forms of energy generation, and even discover new planets.
26.See better Using a QNX-based LASIK system, doctors perform bladeless laser surgery to help people reduce their dependency on glasses and contact lenses.
27.Buy a book Bookstores throughout North America rely on QNX-based point-of-sale systems to deliver highly personalized service to their customers.
28.Play video poker QNX technology powers intercasino gaming systems that can pay out multi-million-dollar winnings, with zero tolerance for error.
29.Drive over a bridge QNX technology helps reduce drawbridge congestion by controlling automated bridge raising systems.
30.Go for a digital drive QNX-based digital instrument clusters are changing the face of in-car computing, combining virtual speedometers with navigation displays, backup cameras, and other content to provide drivers with the most appropriate information for every drive mode or road condition.

On a side note you might want to check out QNXs previous 25 ways QNX touches your life or their blog post from CES highlighting the car companies showing off products at CES with QNX built in. I was also kind of impressed with how many companies went on the record congratulating QNX on their 30th anniversary.

All in all QNX seems like a huge deal for RIM. I am really excited for 2012 when my phone will hopefully be running QNX and never have to reboot That is my dream a phone that NEVER has to reboot.
