I don't think anyone here, including the market, appreciates the importance of winning the DoD contract. Here is a snippet, from what in my opinion, is the most important part of the article:

Army officials are eager for DoD’s mobile device contract to be awarded this month. The management software will eventually manage, monitor and enforce security for 8 million devices. The software will allow the Army to remotely wipe data from devices and monitor what applications users download, websites they visit and data viewed or modified on their devices
Now, CAL for BlackBerry is a free upgrade for one year, however, let's assume that in the long run, 8 million devices are paying an annual subscription fee for BES10 of $100. I don't need to explain what $800M of recurring service revenues would do to EPS, and consequently, the stock price of BlackBerry. This would add over $1.00 in annual EPS!

And to add to this, if they do take on BES10, you can add revenue for all the idevices and Adroid devices floating around. I'm sure they don't want to have thousands more out there unprotected

All righty then...tomorrow FaceBook is going to announce an app...nothing major, just an app so if you want some quick cash, short that sucker. Then HTC is going to announce they are the only ones that will have this wonderful app for at least six months and it will come native and preloaded on their next device. The problem with this is it's a high level device and no one will buy it...so if you want some quicker cash short them too. BB will gain over 2% on this news even though it has nothing at all to do with BB...so, the wise move is :

    Stay Long.

    Just my opinion..

It can't come fast enough. It has BES10 written all over it.

Moreover, with war likely breaking out soon with another psychopath (North Korea) the DoD will get a nice hike in its budget.

Did I miss something here? Did we win a contract or is this hypothetical?

I was including those, I think right now they have 470k bb and 130k others. I'm pretty sure that's going to tilt in apple's favour though. The key to me is getting BES10 to be the MDM solution for all the devices. That way, even if Apple scores a large order, BB can still gain $100/year/device at a much higher margin than hardware can provide. Every device would be as big or bigger win for BB than Apple.

Hypothetical...but would be very nice indeed. If BB doesn't get it I hope it doesn't do the opposite and crater our share price.

I just believe that we have it wrapped up based on what BES10 provides and what the DoD has stated that it needs.

still in the wind. but it seems like BES10 is the obvious choice. Of course airwatch et al will be wining, dining, and gifting the DOD bigwigs all month long.

You can hope, but if we don't get some large piece of the pie it will crater the share price IMHO.

It sounds like we will know by April 25th or sooner!!!

PS - if we don't get it, I expect the stock to crater. If we do get it, it's anyone's guess what happens to the stock.

Its speculation. But makes a lot of sense. The DoD has until the end of the month to come up with a solution. In the meantime, I'm out for the day!

Anyone know of any other mdm platform out there that is anywhere close to the capabilities of BES 10?

I would be very surprised of bb wasn't able to secure a contract with the DOD.

BB10 being the platform being able to pass FIPS 140-2 certification, wouldnt make sense for them to choose another platform

Yeah, I'd appreciate it if we all refrain from posting pictures of semi clad women or men because (I can only speak for myself) I check this thread from work (it's always open in one of the background window and I peek at it when I get a chance) and if somebody at work saw it, it'd give out wrong impression and (might) land me in trouble.

I came out ahead for the day. We will see what tomorrow will bring. I hate that I actually had to work today. First of the month is a very busy time for my company. I will make sure I have a stop installed to make sure I do not loose what I have gained. Would love to see $16 tomorrow.

See you all in the am around 5am EST for the "pre market show"!

I'm in the DoD, and though I can't speak for each agency respectively, I can say the majority will not utilize any other device for several reasons. Also, not all contracts will ensure the latest device (Z10). My organization just renewed our contract and received the Bold 9930 (don't ask). So, there are many factors at play regarding the DoD and BB. Unless you're a part of it it's hard to understand.

Relax.. have a good excuse ready and you'll be fine.

Excuse #5 – Accident – An Edith Cowan University study warned parents it would be their fault for “allowing children to surf the internet unsupervised and unfiltered”. The study added, “while most 16 to 17-year-old boys admit to viewing online pornography, they claim it’s accidental”.

Excuse #4 – Ignorance - Ohio Democrat and State Rep. Matthew Barrett was giving a lecture to 20 students in the senior government class at Norwalk High School. He inserted a memory stick in his computer and a projected image of a topless woman appeared. After police interviewed him, Barrett said, “I have no idea where these came from”.

Excuse #3 – Stress Relief - James Pacenza, a former IBM employee and Vietnam vet, claimed watching porn at work helped him deal with his post-traumatic stress disorder. When IBM decided to sack him, Pacenza promptly sued for $5 million claiming he deserves treatment and sympathy rather than dismissal.

Excuse #2 – Bestial Interference - As Duffster noted in this post, Florida man, Keith Griffin, was charged this August with possessing over 1,000 child porn images. When interviewed by police, Griffin claimed he had left the room while downloading music and his cat had jumped on the keyboard. When he returned he found “strange things” on his computer.

Excuse #1 – Philanthropy - Fresh in and straight to the top spot, this is my current favourite. A senior official at the National Science Foundation, which receives $6 billion a year in US government funds, has recently been busted for “repeatedly and excessively” surfing porn sites at the office. 20% of his work hours were spent having “sexually explicit chats” with women online. Investigators put the cost to taxpayers of the porn surfing at between $13,800 and about $58,000. When confronted the official explained he frequented the porn sites to “provide a living to the poor overseas women” and claimed, “these young women are from poor countries and need to make money to help their parents and this site helps them do that.

Wow...strange day for sure. the US ADP numbers tanked, which resulted in lower markets, lower US dollar, and lower oil...what amazes me is that gold plunges another $20 under these circumstances. Wacky stuff.

So, this Friday the US non-farm payroll data will be released...again likely to be negative. Being the contrarian stock BBRY should hold steady or climb...lol
I should monitor this more closely ... /$ parity is important for my buys
