I'm sure you've all seen this, but there aren't a lot of words to express the ignorance of Colin Gillis. All his views are unsubstantiated. The best part of this video: around 1:40, when they have to show the 5 year chart, because its one of the few where AAPL actually looks compelling compared to BlackBerry. CNBC is clearly not free of biases.

the US is big, no doubt you can find examples of poor displays as well as good examples, so far the bashers have been reporting their bias,
Really? What about bulls? Did you see one photo of a line up? I didn't, and there was little anecdotal evidence as well.

Result is that the bears now control the narrative before results. I see a lot more downside ahead of earnings.
On Monday morning, I predict the following:
    1. Short analysts reiterate their sell based on poor opening weekend results.
    2. More news stories about how no one is buying the Z10. Perhaps with someone saying "We tried to find a new owner to interview but we could not find a single buyer"
    3. BBRY turns red early and stays red. There are a lot of weak hands in this stock. Everyone knows that when it goes bad, this is a $8 to $10 stock.

I was thinking that maybe the media bashing is impart due to BBRY relatively limited marketing budget. If you were CNBC and wanted to report negative news to draw eyeballs to your station would you bash the companies (Samsung and Apple) who are cutting your marketing department big fat checks? Therefore, there is very little BBRY can so to stop the negative press.

I think they could have stepped in long ago and still can and address the media issue, without giving away any numbers or data even. This is media management mitigation at the basic level and Blackberry is just letting this happen. Every corporation has a PR department that handles this, as we see it everyday. Blackberry repeats itself "repeatedly" due to the decision makers not delegating the responsibility to younger but more experienced PR specialists. You can bet your bottom dollar there are PR specialists biting at the bit to turn this around but they're not given the opportunity.

Superfly, we're getting at media manipulation and how corporations deal with or don't deal with it, which mitigates negative impact on products. Every corporation has a Public Relations Department (PR) or PAO (Public Affairs Office) that has the responsibility of creating speeches or preparing corporate leaders for interviews. They also deal with bashing and negative media. This is a fact, not an opinion. We are just questioning where Blackberry's PR or PAO is right now.

Kudos to Kid Vibe. I think BBRY needs to dump "Moving Forward" and adopt this as their tag line.

Thanks all for staying positive overall. Was at work for most of this and didn't have to experience it in real time. After 32 years in law enforcement with 4 of 'em devoted to high level fraud schemes, this one tops the flippin cake! Adding to the frustration....I can't, and I guess no one else can, do a thing about it. Very sad.

Oh we'll, time for a couple drinks and we'll revisit this movie on Monday (Edit...ok one drink will have to do, can't afford more than that right now lol !!).

If I wasn't stuck in El Paso I'd buy you a couple rounds my friend. You are one of the group that I enjoy hearing from in this forum. You remain positive and have substantial information to share. On another topic, you're right about Kid Vibe. OMG, if I had his knowledge, discipline, and drive when I was his age I'd be a self-made millionaire right now. I like the Kid.

Actually, his post reflects the point a few of us are trying to make right now. Granted, we know BB will recover and do great things, got it. The point is, where is BB's PR or PAO department right now? The media is having a hayday and knows that without a PR/PAO office confronting them, they can do as they please. Welcome to capitalism. So, until BB's PR or PAO steps in, the media is laughing out loud right now because nobody is stepping in. I can assure you that this will be a powerpoint presentation in corporate leadership training on how not to deal with the media. Way to go BB.

Like you are saying, this has been a long standing problem with BB in the US. They have advertising and professionals that appeal to the business side but they have not yet learned how to advertise for the US market yet. They have failed to hand it over to a marketing firm and they dont seem to be changing that. I guess they are counting on their numbers to sway negative media to their side, but i dont think thats will resonate with the general population

What I really wonder is.... the media started hyping things up this week and the stock went up even cramer pumped it up abit. Even CNBC was somewhat positive. Then now all of the sudden today CNBC is a huge dark cloud. Seems kind of fishy.

Like before the announcement there was hype and then right after a HUGE drop. I feel like this next week will be good then after the report another dump no matter what the numbers. These people know how to take money

You are exactly right. That's normal when a corporation's PR department sits back and lets this stuff happen. Where do I sign up for that?? I would love to make $102,000 annually and not do anything. Good lord.....

They actual do have these departments who then delegate the work to local marketing teams in London, Dubai, Sydney, New York, San Fran etc.

When the amount of negative press gets to the level it has for BlackBerry, they have to pick their battles thats why they responded this week to the Guardian story as that went to one of their main strengths. They cannot fight every single blog, TV channel, Radio show in the world. They also enlist the help of the BlackBerry-centric blogs to fight for them guerilla warfare style.

They actively will also get incidents like the reported lack of branding in AT&T stores taken care of.

No, but CNBC has set the tone and the tone is that it is a botched launch. Are people going to line up tomorrow morning? No, do they need to in order for BlackBerry to be successful? I don't think so. BlackBerry is doing well but the short term outlook is negative in my opinion, until BlackBerry blows the doors off at earnings.

Well guys, here's some good news!

    BlackBerry meets Strawberry Shortcake

    By COLLEEN COSGROVE Business Reporter

Vintage animation meets the latest in smartphone technology, thanks to a freshly inked deal between DHX Media Ltd. and BlackBerry.

The deal was one of three new licensing agreements the Halifax media firm announced Friday. About 1,000 episodes of DHX-owned programming, like Inspector Gadget, Strawberry Shortcake and Sonic the Hedgehog, will be available in coming weeks to BlackBerry smartphone and tablet users in the U.K., the U.S. and Canada.

Delivering once-loved titles to consumers in new ways signals a growing part of the business, executive vice-president David Regan said Friday.

“Consumers are growing accustomed to using multiple screens and they’re expecting to have content available to them when and where they want it,” Regan said Friday. “The key takeaway from deals like this shows again that content of any age can be delivered via multiple platforms.”

The independent children’s entertainment producer and distributor also announced a six-year home entertainment deal with Berkshire Axis Media Distribution. The Toronto firm will circulate DHX-owned programming like Mona the Vampire and Are You Afraid of the Dark in both of French and English through its SVOD or subscription video-on-demand services.

Meanwhile, CBC renewed the licence agreement of seasons 1, 2 and 3 of its stop-motion animation series, POKO.

All three deals breathe new life into old content and the rapid arrival of new subscription video-on-demand providers has Canada’s largest independent children’s entertainment producer and distributor working full tilt to create original productions for the format.

“New SVOD customers are cropping up every week, and with the most extensive library of children’s programming out there, we’re seeing growth in all areas of our business,” Regan said.

I would totally agree with that. Where were the local store ads. BlackBerry in the back room until a customer asks for it isn't going to work. Those stores needed to be plastered with BlackBerry so people go in and saw wow, what is going on with all these ads for BlackBerry? At which point the salesperson says "Didn't you hear? BlackBerry is back with a new kicking phone, here, let me show you..."

    Hello Moolah,
Yep, I fully understand the media mitigation program, as I've worked with several PAO departments within the DoD. The issue is they started too late and they are doing too little. They know most of these analysts and/or writers. The fact that they are transparent in this "battle" invites more and more and more and more and more...... you get the picture. There are great examples on-line on how a great PR department takes care of these things and this is not one of them. Hopefully next week's ER gives a bit of relief. But, the process will continue or renew if BB doesn't stiffen up their PR campaign.
